A woman has told me off for yawning in IKEA?!

There I am, wandering around the plant section with my friend. I'm knackered today, having had 2 hours sleep, and I yawned with my hand over my mouth, not making a noise.

A lady was opposite me in the aisle and came over with her big trolly and said to me "other people are shopping here, you know"

I thought I was blocking something she wanted to get to and said "oh sorry I'll move" and I did move, to which she replied "no for gods sake, I meant about the yawning. Can you not save that for at home"

I laughed, she tutted at her husband/partner/male friend and then they both flounced away!

So, AIBU for yawning discreetly in IKEA?Grin

@DowntonCrabby thank you for that! I have really bad anxiety sometimes so usually confrontation would have sent me into a downward spiral, but this was just too funny to not laugh at so I'm taking it as a sign I'm on the up!! 💗

@Ginorchoc god how very dare you!! IKEA really does bring out the worst in people Grin

I'd have probably got into one of the beds and had a kip.Grin

VeraVinegarTits · 30/06/2018 21:33

That is fucking hilarious Grin

Notevilstepmother · 30/06/2018 21:36

Where do all these people get their weird ideas from? Clearly they don’t have anything better to worry about.

Yawning in Ikea, wont someone think of the children Grin

Theweasleytwins · 30/06/2018 21:46

I though you yawned as your brain needed more oxygen?

You covered your mouth. She was bvu

OftenHangry · 30/06/2018 21:52

Yawning is infectious. She was just worried EVERYONE in IKEA will end up yawning. 🤣
Some people are so ridiculous 😂

LizzieVereker · 30/06/2018 22:01

I have a vicious anti- yawn reflex, especially to noisy yawns. When someone does a noisy yawn I feel instantly FURIOUS. I want to rip their throat out. Maybe the woman had an irrational yawn rage like me?

(I would not dream of telling you off though, as I know it’s my problem. I’d have just seethed inside by the tea lights).

buttercup54321 · 30/06/2018 22:01

I would have yawned again. Widely and loudly in her face. Then asked her if that was more suitable to be seen in public lol

OwlBeThere · 30/06/2018 22:03

just when you think you've heard everything, someone more mental comes along............

SirRodneyEffing · 30/06/2018 22:11

I've yawned three times just reading this thread

getoffthathistoricrelic · 30/06/2018 22:18

Is there any way she could have misheard it as a big fart? If not she is a nutter. There are many of them about.

itsBritneyBeach · 30/06/2018 22:21

@getoffthathistoricrelic I almost wish it had been a big fart! Definitely no noise, the friend I was with said she hadn't even noticed my yawn so god knows how the nosy lady did!

I'm going to IKEA tomorrow. I now can't wait. I am going to behave appallingly and hope that someone will make a thread about me Grin

Confusssed · 30/06/2018 22:26

Lizzie I have a similar instant rage if someone sneezes loudly near me. It actually makes me clench my jaw in fury as I struggle not batter them to the floor Blush

StaplesCorner · 30/06/2018 22:27

Confusssed p l e a s e tell us you HAVE battered someone to the floor? In IKEA?

itsBritneyBeach · 30/06/2018 22:33

@Confusssed go on then, meet me at the bargain basement and I'll show you what for!!

next time dress! you really shouldn't be wondering around in your PJs - some people! what they wear in IKEA !

IsItThatTimeAlready131 · 30/06/2018 22:36

I have just yawned at least 7 times reading the first 2.5 pages of this thread. (I realised I was yawning so started counting, I don't know if I missed any earlier yawns as wasn't counting then as hadn't realised I was yawning so much.) Yawned again as I was typing that!

I am thinking (just yawned for 9th time!) I might have to go to IKEA and see if there is a bat crazy woman there to give me wrong for yawning, it might keep me occupied and stop me yawning. Added 10th and 11th yawn onto the count just now.

I think I will have to get some sleep instead, as have just yawned again! Or at least leave this thread and leave the batty IKEA yawn hater to hate on someone else. Weird woman should find other, more worthwhile things to complain about like famine, poverty, child\domestic abuse etc. There are so many more important things to moan about.

Confusssed · 30/06/2018 22:40

So far I have managed to refrain from assault & battery in IKEA. It goes without saying though that DH and I invariably drive home from IKEA in icy silence (not because he sneezed but because of his highly irritating 'IKEA face and voice' which he adopts the moment we walk through the door).

DMCWelshCakes · 30/06/2018 22:42

What the actual fuck?

missmouse101 · 30/06/2018 22:42

I also can't stop yawning reading this! Wish such exciting things happened to me in Ikea!

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 30/06/2018 22:43

Had you been sleeping in one of the beds and she caught you?!

missmouse101 · 30/06/2018 22:44

@confffussdGrinGrin

Velvetbee · 30/06/2018 22:46

I saw a bloke asleep in an armchair in Southampton IKEA once. At least he wasn’t yawning though.

flopsyandjim · 30/06/2018 22:46

maybe it was my manager, who thinks I mustn't sneeze.

Did you have food or something in your mouth?
