How do your ask your children whether they've brushed their teeth?

OP posts:
RoboticSealpup · 30/06/2018 10:27

That should of course be: how do you ask your children...

Pointless thread award 🏆

Emma198 · 30/06/2018 10:31

Hmm I don't get it but I find it hilarious that there's an error in your OP when you're having a dig at people's grammar Grin

RoboticSealpup · 30/06/2018 10:33

Thanks NewNew! Do you use "would of?"

OP posts:
RoboticSealpup · 30/06/2018 10:35

I know, Emma. Fucking autocorrect!

OP posts:
GreenTulips · 30/06/2018 10:36

Isn't of Would'f or Could'f or Should'f

mimibunz · 30/06/2018 10:36

Good grammar is never pointless.

GeekyBlinders · 30/06/2018 10:37

That's Muphry's Law in action, right there.

midnightmisssuki · 30/06/2018 10:37

Hahahahaha. The irony of trying to correct someone’s grammar when your OP is flawed Grin

Emma198 · 30/06/2018 10:41

I say could have and would have so not your target audience but can you explain what your response would be if I said

I say could of, and ask my kids 'Have you brushed your teeth?'

Just out of curiosity.

RoboticSealpup · 30/06/2018 10:47

Nobody?

OP posts:
FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 30/06/2018 11:06

What on earth are you talking about?

Have you brushed your teeth?
And
could have

EggysMom · 30/06/2018 11:08

Did you brush your teeth? Smile

PotatoesDieInHotCars · 30/06/2018 11:09

I use woulda/coulda and would say "did you brush your teeth?"

Did I win?

RoboticSealpup · 30/06/2018 11:13

No, potatoes! No.

OP posts:
PotatoesDieInHotCars · 30/06/2018 11:17

Aw Sad I coulda done with that prize money.

between4and7 · 30/06/2018 11:19

Child's name, have you brushed your teeth today/tonight?

SenecaFalls · 30/06/2018 11:23

What is your point?

The mistake is in people hearing the contraction "would've" and writing it as "would of". How does that relate to asking someone whether they have brushed their teeth?

FlibbertyGiblets · 30/06/2018 11:26

Petard hoist, OP.

RaspberryRuffless · 30/06/2018 11:27

My head hurts trying to figure out what this means! What's the connection between people who say "would of" etc and asking about brushing teeth?

Eliza9917 · 30/06/2018 11:29

I say/write could/should/would have.

What does that have to do with how you ask if teeth have been brushed?

I would say have you brushed your teeth. How else do you ask that?

Alconleigh · 30/06/2018 11:30

The point is presumably that people who do use of will realise they don't say "of you brushed your teeth?" and thus be re educated.
I'm pretty pedantic and this thread has annoyed me.......

JustJoinedRightNow · 30/06/2018 11:32

I say would have, could have etc. I am assuming “did you brush your teeth yet?” Is grammatically incorrect and I am only just learning this now!
Please explain why!

bluemoonchances · 30/06/2018 11:32

I'm clearly being thick as I don't even understand the question you're trying to as! Would/ could mean totally different things, and how do the relate to asking a kid to clean their teeth?!
I'm confuddled!!

JustJoinedRightNow · 30/06/2018 11:32

Ahhh Alconleigh I get it now!
