Is it entirely inappropriate to give a teacher a gift that contains a condom as an end of term present?

Sorry, not a trolltactular wind up thread to entertain on a Friday night but a real dilemma.

Ds 5 has a wonderful TA who is is key worker due to ADHD and suspected ASD. She is wonderful and I wanted to get her more than the usual mug and prosecco.

I've seen an online beauty box company that does a really nice lip care collection (lip balms, treatments and lipsticks) and it's bloody half price today! She's in her very early twenties and obviously looks after her appearance so I think this is perfect. However it weirdly contains a condom Confused. Can I still buy it for her?

The obvious thing to do would be to remove it but half the fun of these boxes is opening up all the tissue and packaging.

is it this one?

I'm a TA and I wouldn't be offended, we probably would end up laughing about it in the staffroom though, especially if its the one I linked which comes with nipple balm and a luxury fair trade vegan condom, we could have an entire lunch break of silliness about that.

brizzledrizzle · 29/06/2018 20:51

You'll forever be spoken about in the staff room if you do....

It's not appropriate at all, what a ridiculous thing for the manufacturers to include in an otherwise nice gift.

TiffanyDoggett · 29/06/2018 20:54

RainbowGlitterFairy yes that's the one. I bought one for myself and it's lovely.

I'm sure you can find another beauty gift that doesn't contain a condom op...

Mxyzptlk · 29/06/2018 21:00

Nipple balm?? It gets better and better.

NO, btw.

TiffanyDoggett · 29/06/2018 21:00

@kaytee87 yes that shouldn't be a problem. I just liked this one and you can't usually get these type of boxes for around the £10-£15 mark.

Not nipple balm!! Lip balm made from lanolin, usually used for breastfeeding with sore nipples.

I like it, it would make me very happy. Depends on your TA though and your relationship with them, there are some parents I'd feel more awkward accepting this from than others.

Mxyzptlk · 29/06/2018 21:03

Okay, I just looked - it says Nipple Balm.

4littlebirds · 29/06/2018 21:04

I think it looks like a good gift with some decent products in it. It’s a charity gift box and condom is linked to women’s gynaecological cancers, hardly a pack of minty fresh durex and Vaseline lip balm tin.

If you get along with her get it and just explain/ apologise about the condom.

BusterGonad · 29/06/2018 21:06

If someone bought me that I'd be ecstatic. It's lovely. I want it now!

kaytee87 · 29/06/2018 21:06

Op I do think you should buy yourself it though.
I sometimes think beautiful flowers are the best gift.

PixieN · 29/06/2018 21:07

Not sure I’d be too happy if one of my students gave me this - even if the condom is vegan Grin

It does have some lovely products in it though.

PixieN · 29/06/2018 21:08

Wine is always appreciated Wine Wink

CheshireChat · 29/06/2018 21:08

Depends on your TA's personality as well, some would find it funny some wouldn't.

My form teacher used to claim it's inappropriate to give toiletries as it implies the gift receiver doesn't wash enough Confused.

Either get her something else or repackage everything in a nice box.

Tara12 · 29/06/2018 21:16

A lip care collection with a condom? Yeah okayyyyyy.... can you provide a link?

TiffanyDoggett · 29/06/2018 21:30

I'm no good with clicks links @Tara12 but someone else posted the link. If you can't find it it's Latest I'm Beauty Eve Appeal box.

I'm really coming round to the idea of taking a few of the best bits and re boxing them sans condom Grin. And if not flowers and booze always hit the spot!

That's beautiful @DextroDependant thanks for the idea.

Thanks to this thread I've now signed up to birch box. Like a little present to myself every month

SoftAsACactus · 29/06/2018 21:39

It’s not a condom, it’s a luxury vegan condom

Goldenbug · 29/06/2018 23:04

I hope it's not been tested on animals either.

welshmist · 29/06/2018 23:16

When our year 2 teacher retired many years ago. She was a martinet, but god could she teach. Three of us clubbed together and bought her a present, we said she had to open it in private so she went through to the kitchen. We heard gales of laughter she came out laughing so hard she could hardly speak, it was a vibrator. I guess times have changed.

9amTrain · 29/06/2018 23:21

Why the fuck does it contain a condom? Grin

creampie · 29/06/2018 23:39

Because it's for eves appeal against cervical cancer.

I actually think it would be ok given the charity appeal behind it
