Is this a crap dinner?

Currently juggling 3yo and a baby so not sure if I'm coming or going sometimes.
Randomly we were on the topic of dinners today and my friend commented that what my DS1 is having for dinner "isn't very good for him" and "is it just one of those weeks?" She is very into everything organic and made from scratch so I don't know if she's a bit OTT to say it or if she has a point.

He's having red pesto pasta with peas and chicken breast.
Yesterday he had a chicken drumstick with cous cous, tomatoes and carrot sticks (carrots are his favourite).
Tomorrow he's having cottage pie with carrots, onion and cauliflower in with the beef sauce and with sweet potato on top rather than regular potatoes.

Through the day he will snack on stuff like rice cakes, fruit or yogurt. The occasional digestive. His favourite lunchtime snack is buttered toast, cheese, lots of cucumber and will usually ask for either a banana or some other fruit.

AIBU to think it's not too bad?

GrinWorra, my kids have had takeaway pizza, garlic bread and chips and some of my Donner kebab ,judge away .

Strokethefurrywall · 29/06/2018 17:37

WorraLiberty - as did I!

OP, you know full well that your child's diet is absolutely fine. There is nothing to worry about, come on now have some faith in yourself.

Your friend is a dick but let her exhaust herself trying to out-mother everyone else.

Bristolmary · 29/06/2018 17:37

(a) is your child healthy?
(b) is your child happy?
(c) are you and your partner/hubby happy with how he's developing?
(d) is the doctor etc happy too?
If yes, then that person isn't your friend, a friend wouldn't question, they'd support you.
It sounds better than what even I've eaten some weeks...if she wants to criticise YOUR food choices for YOUR baby, ask her to contribute to his care Smile

WorraLiberty · 29/06/2018 17:38

Mine are consuming magical unicorn dust

Organic of course

Littleredboat · 29/06/2018 17:39

Have you considered a prawn and tomato skewer?

letsdolunch321 · 29/06/2018 17:41

Agree with others, as long as your child has a healthy appetite that is all you need to be concerned with

Tara12 · 29/06/2018 17:43

Sound like lovely meals. She sounds like a food obsessive.

PinkHeart5914 · 29/06/2018 17:44

Your meals are fine!

I’ve 3 dc under 3 and they have had:

Wednesday was cod topped with pesto, sweet potato mash, broccoli

Yesterday was halloumi, roasted veg cous cous and cucumber sticks

Today is cold chicken, baby tomatoes, cucumber, pepper, cous cous, broccoli

Chickoletta · 29/06/2018 17:45

Twattish behaviour from your 'friend'.

Strokethefurrywall · 29/06/2018 17:46

I feed my kids dirt and nothing else...

falang · 29/06/2018 17:46

Why would you care what she thinks. She's a sanctimonious cow.

Sparklyfee · 29/06/2018 17:48

My 4 and 6 year old have just had chicken nuggets, chips and bread and butter...tell judgey friend about that, she'll likely faint on the spot

TheOrigBrave · 29/06/2018 17:50

I think the biggest problem is your lack of confidence. Surely you can see that these are all perfectly good meals.

Maybe ask you friend what she means specifically - make her accountable for her comments.

Lostalldirection · 29/06/2018 17:51

Oh purleeeease!

I also have a 3 year old and a 20 month old.

For breakfast this morning my 3 year old had an ice lolly. My 20 month old had a bag of wotsits.

For lunch they had chicken and pepper pizza on a tomato base - healthy as far as I'm concerned both protein and veg. Followed by jelly.

Now that is what you call one of those days :)

At least once a week I take my two to the local garden centre and let them have beans, fried egg and a sausage for breakfast because they love it. I often feed them ready made fish pie/pasta bake/lasagne. Other times they have a jacket potato, roast dinner, chicken with rice and veg. It's about balance.

SadieHH · 29/06/2018 17:52

My kids have been on Freezer Buffet this week. They've had some truly crap meals Grin

PuddlesOfBud · 29/06/2018 17:53

Op do you hoenstly think that's a crap dinner? I assume you wouldn't have fed it to your child if you thought so. It's just I think my eyes might be rolling aroud with Worras and I'm concerned we might get them mixed up.

Wherearetheclowns · 29/06/2018 17:56

@Lostalldirection I haven't rtft yet. I opened it and the first post I saw was yours.

"For breakfast this morning my 3 year old had an ice lolly. My 20 month old had a bag of wotsits." Made me smile so much. I can so relate to that!! Smile

Flowerpower220394 · 29/06/2018 17:56

Your meals sound lovely. Your friend on the other hand sounds nosy and interfering. I wouldn't take much notice of her, she can feed her children what she likes but she can't tell you what to feed your children.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 29/06/2018 17:57

Wow that sounds amazing! I have a 3 yo and baby too and the 3 yo seems to be living off cucumber, hummus and tomatoes 🤣

TheEmmaDilemma · 29/06/2018 17:59

FFS what is wrong with people.

Sometimes you're lucky if they eat anything and I'm 'not a mother'.

You sound you're doing awesome.

Caribbeanyesplease · 29/06/2018 17:59

OP

It’s you I’m conxerned about.

Concerned that a woman. With two children. Is not sure whether chicken breast, cous cous, cottage pie, carrots cauliflower etc etc is a decent diet for a 3 year old.

viques · 29/06/2018 17:59

Your menus sound fine, varied, variety of textures, good range of proteins, carbs and vitamins/minerals.

But I would be interested to know what your frenemy thinks a balanced diet looks like. Could you, in the interests of MN nosiness and pant hoiking, ask her to drop you an email with some menu suggestions, then you could accidentally cut and paste it on here..........

WorraLiberty · 29/06/2018 17:59

It's just I think my eyes might be rolling aroud with Worras and I'm concerned we might get them mixed up.

I'm quite relaxed

It's just how eye roll

I’m with you.
