to not know what to put on my kids feet in summer

They don't seem to cope well with sandals, we are constantly stopping to remove stones that find their way in - including Crocs annoyingly as I love Crocs.
So last year we opted for mesh type trainers - too hot with socks so wore without - ended up very smelly after a few weeks.
I'm contemplating aqua shoes as they look enclosed enough to stop stones going in - but will result in sweaty feet?
Am I the only one with this problem?
(kids and 7 and 4)

We wear doodles sandles - are they fitting right if stones keep getting in? It doesn't happen to my similar age DC but not often and they wear their sandles while playing out all the time.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 28/06/2018 21:21

The ones they had this year were a similar style to the Doodles ones. They appear to fit, in that they look like they do and they don't slip around when they walk. I see loads of kids in the same or similar so not sure why we are having such an issue!

My kids wear crocs or jelly sandals or trainers/proper shoes. Never had a problem with stones though.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 28/06/2018 21:28

Seriously, we seem to need to stop every 5 minutes for stone removal - something's obviously not right!

What about the little daps from the doodles range? Like this:
www.clarks.co.uk/c/Briley-Bow/p/26131664

Great for the four year old but probably a little babyish for the seven year old.

We like a walking sandal - something cheap and cheerful like Karrimor.

Are they kicking the stones or anything?

MarthasGinYard · 28/06/2018 21:31

Dd wears Birkenstocks, and some breathable little natural cotton pumps which can be washed.

MissusGeneHunt · 28/06/2018 21:32

Aqua shoes are fab. Straight in the wash, and as good as new. Comfy for kids and adults! (no, I don't sell them as a sideline!!) Grin

StrugglingMumma · 28/06/2018 21:32

My daughter wears Clarks doodles. They also dry very quickly when wet

User467 · 28/06/2018 21:32

I got some really good sandals in tk maxx, fairly enclosed but still some holes for air.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 28/06/2018 21:36

Toastyfingers I was looking at those, they've had similar when they were little but sadly think they're to cool for them now (4 year old included, he follows his brothers lead!).

Nottaken, I think walking sandals would be too open and then we have the stone issue.

Martha - any examples of breathable little natural cotton pumps?

Missus - ooh I might go for aqua shoes then - I thought they might be good but was worried they might make their feet hot, do you find that?

do they drag their feet? the only way I can imagine how they get stones in their so shoes so often.

or are purposely walking on stoney areas.

MarthasGinYard · 28/06/2018 21:41

I like natural world eco shoes

Fab and you can bung em' in the washer.

Sorry can't find link

Oldraver · 28/06/2018 21:41

Mountain Warehouse do some similar to the Karrimor but with enclosed toes..DS has some every year..also can wear in water.

This kind of thing.

Also some boat shoes or Flossies for smartness

RedTulip86 · 28/06/2018 21:49

Tesco plimsolls for us. Sturdy, washable, breathable and light, something like this

Gibble1 · 28/06/2018 21:57

The neoprene shoes are not supportive enough for their little growing feet. The soles tend to be really thin too.
DD always had Birkenstock style t bar type flip flops (with the strap high up her foot so she didn’t slop around) and didn’t have stone issues.
DS always had a walking type sandal and didn’t have stone issues either.
At one point their first school tried to make everyone wear socks with sandals but all kids and parents said an emphatic no.
There are tiny socks you can get now for wearing inside trainers, ballet pumps and such like. They reduce the stench of feet inside trainers.

TheVanguardSix · 28/06/2018 21:59

Birkenstock Eva sandals for kids: buckle or slide
Washable
Comfortable
Wear in and out of water

But this doesn’t resolve your stone issue.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 28/06/2018 22:07

Thanks for all the suggestions, lots of things to look at and I'll check if they are dragging their feet! At the moment we're doing trainers with trainer socks but have a very warm holiday coming up so will need something cooler.

I love the natural world eco shoes, I'll be getting some of those for me!

Oldraver, those sandals are exactly what DS1 has and we have the (inexplicable) stone issue.

Birkenstocks for my daughter too. They are well fitting, hard wearing but comfy. They'll do a whole summer. Well worth the money. And if you take an old pair back to Schuh they give you £5 off.,

cheeseandcrackers · 29/06/2018 07:00

My DS always gets stones in his sandals. Mountain Warehouse closed sandals are good and cheap too. When he was younger Riccosta did good closed sandals with different widths.
