AIBU to think school should finish now?

This really lovely hot weather seems to happen at the end of June and in July each year. Yet the children still have to go into school when most other countries have finished for the summer. Then have the whole of August off when the end of August is notoriously bad (always around the bank holiday!) and the summer solstice is long gone.
AIBU to think we should move the summer holidays earlier?

Wow Stef What do you do about work??

Now I work from home 4 out of 5 days. My oldest in school is 16 and my youngest is 7, so the 16 year old watches the 7 year old on the one day a week I'm in the office. Before, when they were younger and I worked in the office every day, they went to daycare, plus camp for a couple of weeks.

My friends children finished yesterday and they fly out on holiday today.

Ifnot have you ever worked in a primary school? If so, you wouldn't be saying that about a long Autumn term.
Nope but I have worked with children. And I have toiled in restaurant kitchens 12 hour days in 40 degree weather with 4 weeks off a year, so I can't say I feel all that sorry for teachers! I feel sorry for the ones without kids who have to pay school holiday premiums though, that sucks.

Another vote from UK for July holidays and to be honest for longer holidays as well. We are at the North and always have better weather until the 20th of July. Schools usually finish 20th, 22nd and so on.

We are in Poland they broke up the 23rd and go back beginning September with only a week off at Xmas and a few long weekends until June strangely enough the kids are fine. Different to the uk though they start school at 08:15 finish at 13:30 also summer holiday childcare is much cheaper than uk

Ide prefer a shorter 6 weeks but then to make up the time on other hols.
Atm we start Sept 1 week end of oct 2 weeks at Xmas 1 in Feb 2 at Easter 1 in May then 6 weeks off end of July.

Take 2 weeks off the 6 weeks and add an extra week Oct and may.

Ours finished yesterday. Its been 30° today! In Scotland!!! It will be great if the weather holds for a bit.

Other years the weather has been hit or miss and the best weather seems to wait till they go back in August. Its all chance really.

We only get one week for 'tattie week' in October.

We are off on hol to wales in a week it will prob snow😀😀

I don't know how I feel about this - certainly, my pupils are really hard to settle and keep focused. Maybe let pupils go a week earlier than normal and staff spend that time planning and preparing for the next academic year? I'd love a week without interruption to be honest - I'd be able to plan so many lessons.

Ifnot you kind of missed my point, I'm not necessarily feeling sorry for teachers, more the fact that autumn terms are quite often 14/15 weeks long, and by Christmas children are absolutely shattered. Adding even more weeks onto that term would be completely detrimental to their education, especially when you consider the school day doesn't just finish at 3.30, because of homework, after school clubs etc.
