To think 8:30am is too early...

To be mowing the lawn and trimming hedges.

What a bloody racket, and it's still going (but it's now past 9am so socially I think that's a little more acceptable...)

Someone somewhere is always going to be offended by lawnmowing

I think you are confusing being offended with being "inconvenienced". How hard can it be to wait for a reasonable hour to start making a racket?

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 27/06/2018 09:30

I don't think it's unreasonable, most people are up and about by then or at least awake. If the choice is either do it morning or evening because of their work hours or the heat I'd rather they did it in the morning.

OnNaturesCourse · 27/06/2018 09:31

Garden fairies... Wouldn't that be nice!

That's LO awake now so peace shattered anyway lol.

And I'd say no later than 7:30/8pm for cutting grass... But really depends on your lawnmower. I know petrol ones are loud and you can get some lightweight ones that are quiet.

Weekend definitely too early!

Weekday probably not 😂

KinkyAfro · 27/06/2018 09:32

Nah not too early but then I'm an early riser 5.00 during the week and 7.00 on weekends. I work in construction and work starts most days at 7.00 am during the week which I think is a little too early

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/06/2018 09:32

Well given that its recently been stupidly hot at 9am I am not surprised they wanted to mow and strim the hedges before it got too warm. I think it's absolutely fine even on a weekend it's not like they were out at 6 making a racket. I appreciate it might be annoying if you wanted to lie in but most people in the street will be up and or on their way to work by half 8.

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/06/2018 09:33

But your reasonable hour, is not necessarily someone else's, that was my point. If I wait until after 8 to cut the lawn, because that's what you deem 'reasonable' what about the shift worker on the other side who is then trying to sleep?

SpiritedLondon · 27/06/2018 09:35

It's totally fine! I would say fine for the weekend too.

Errr no it isn’t fine at the weekend. Just because some people are up early doesn’t mean the whole world should have to listen to a continual stream of lawn mowers, strimmers, headgecutters, leaf blowers and god knows what other noisy gadgets it’s possible to buy for the garden. It’s possible to work quietly on other tasks and leave the noisy stuff til 9 or 10 at the weekend surely? ( it’s not significantly hot at that time )

crochetmonkey74 · 27/06/2018 09:35

I'm fully in the camp of crack on with your life, as long as it's not hammering or electric drilling early/late then normal activities like mowing, hoovering are fine

SixHoolaHoops · 27/06/2018 09:37

No it isn't - pre 8am might be but not 8.30. Lots of people including me ... are working at that time

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 27/06/2018 09:38

would you really enjoy hearing my kids playing football at 6am on Sunday because they're up and ready to go? We can all crack on with our life, or be considerate neighbours and try to keep disruptions to a minimum, even in a detached house .

crochetmonkey74 · 27/06/2018 09:40

ikeepaforkinmypurse

I actually would be- but then I grew up in a city and now live opposite a really busy park

ChilliRae · 27/06/2018 09:40

I'm at work an hour away from my house by 7:45 so I don't think it's too early. Even on a weekend I would be up but can see why on a weekend it'd be a pain.

LeighaJ · 27/06/2018 09:43

YABU

SpiritedLondon · 27/06/2018 09:44

If I wanted to start exercising to loud music in the garden at the weekend at 08.30 would that be acceptable? I’m thinking a bit of grime or hip hop.

totalcontrol · 27/06/2018 09:46

The council's deadline for making noise is 7am.I know this because we are first on their round for recycling and bin collection and have them clattering at 7am every thursday morning.I think 7 am is the earliest start time for construcion work in the week too.

crochetmonkey74 · 27/06/2018 09:50

I did say normal activities - I think lawn mowing in the morning is pretty normal

CherriesAndGingham · 27/06/2018 09:53

I think 7 am is the earliest start time for construcion work in the week too.

Yes, my neighbours decidied to start drilling or whatever the racket was (sounded like repointing - is that done on inside walls?) at 7am, several days in a row. On the party wall adjoining my bedroom!

In comparison a lawnmower doesn't seem so bad...

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/06/2018 09:54

It’s possible to work quietly on other tasks and leave the noisy stuff til 9 or 10 at the weekend surely? I'd far rather they did it at 8am while I'm still inside getting used to be being awake, so that it was all quiet in the garden when I got out there at 10.

It seems to me reasonable to start noisy work at the same time traffic builds up to the morning rush hour.

Windmillsinsummer · 27/06/2018 09:56

We live in a new development we were the first people to move in they are still building the remainder of the houses. The builders start at 7am this is with all equipment. It's summer i don't mind at all they even do it on a Saturday it's only noise.

SpiritedLondon · 27/06/2018 10:03

Clearly you can’t please everyone. I think my issue is not that the peace of the garden is spoiled by an occasional lawn being mowed, it’s that there is relentless noise that goes on for hours as everyone trots out one noisy gadget after another. At the end of the day noise is noise ( made worse when you’re trying to sleep either at the end of the day or the beginning)

KneesupGaston · 27/06/2018 10:04

YABU, the blanket rule is 7am for noise not 9am.

Hogtini · 27/06/2018 10:04

YABU. Best to do it early/late while it's cooler.

Hoppinggreen · 27/06/2018 10:20

Last Friday the council mowed the green in front of our house with a large sit on mower at 7 am!!

DarlingNikita · 27/06/2018 10:25

I think a lot of local councils' rule is 8am on a weekday, 9 at weekends.

It must be infuriating if you e.g. work shifts, but I guess you can't legislate for everyone.
