Except perhaps on a dress down Friday and perhaps not even then.

Because wider straps cover underwear properly and tend to be on tops with slightly more material than one with spaghetti straps, which are usually low cut front and back

I once got told off for wearing the attached with black tailored trousers. Too revealing apparently!

I don't wear bras so that wouldn't be as issue. I'm an A cup Grin

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 01/07/2018 10:58

So if you bend down in a spaghetti strap top you can see straight down it.

TulipTilers · 01/07/2018 14:45

@sugarhunnyicedtea

I would disagree with that. Like Uyulala, I have minimal breasts. Whether you can see them bending over in a spaghetti-top depends entirely on the cut at the chest. Spaghetti-strap tight vests show no cleavage on me bent over or otherwise, also the more floaty tops that have adjustable straps are good for making the chest higher on me.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 01/07/2018 15:20

@TulipTilers I would say that a tight top wouldn't be appropriate anyway but I've never seen a floaty one that doesn't have a gap when bending down. It's just the way they're cut.
Neither are allowed where I work unless covered by a jacket/cardigan

TulipTilers · 01/07/2018 15:24

A tight top not appropriate? Why not? I doubt I own any clothes that would be suitable Shock

Tink1990 · 01/07/2018 15:25

What are spaghettti straps Confused

TulipTilers · 01/07/2018 15:32

Something like this wouldn't show anything on me, for example. I'd have it in black though.

Would prefer if people would let me know and not let me walk around in underwear

But that Angelina Jolie top was not underwear. Hmm

MaisyPops · 01/07/2018 17:14

tulip
To me that's a lovely top, but wouldn't be appropriate for a professional or business casual dress code.

TulipTilers · 01/07/2018 17:26

To me that's a lovely top, but wouldn't be appropriate for a professional or business casual dress code.

I don't think I get the "professional" look. I think that black top coupled with some black cigarette-style trousers and some sensible shoes would look pretty smart. Maybe I just have low standards Grin

MaisyPops · 01/07/2018 17:32

It's lovely and I think that outfit would be nice.

Strappy tops, cleavage, short skirts, shorts for men, polo shirts etc haven't been allowed in any of the places I've worked.

I've got some lovely summer dresses which could be worn with a blazer and look smart but they'd be too short for work.

I think there's a difference between smart/looking nice and professional attire.

TulipTilers · 01/07/2018 18:19

Well, I look crap in suit blazers and shirts etc (do not own any) so I hope I never have to dress professionally, I'd need an entire new wardrobe!

MaisyPops · 01/07/2018 19:31

I never wear full business professional dress.
Our dress code is between professional dress and business casual so I tend to wear pencil skirts with blouses and then mix and match cardigans, softer blazers of my choice or cropped trousers with blouses and a cardigan.

I don't think I've ever worn a full matching suit, but I do love blazers. Some schools have suits as an expectation for all staff. I'd hate that.

Angelil · 02/07/2018 20:33

If they are wearing a proper bra then fine.

Katypage · 04/07/2018 11:44

It totally depends on what the job is really. In general spaghetti straps aren’t a problem as long as baps aren’t hanging out as well, there’s literally like a difference of an inch from normal straps! If they’re seeing customers they can always put on suit jacket when they’re with them but I can’t imagine anyone would care in this weather!

echt · 04/07/2018 11:54

If spaghetti straps are OK, the so, by logic is this:

NotARegularPenguin · 04/07/2018 12:23

Echt, I wear vest tops like that to work.

NeedSomeTimeInTheSunshiiine · 04/07/2018 12:55

My 'office' is a Hot Yoga studio. So we are all regularly revealing our 'private' armpits to the world. Grin

It's not unheard of for men to practice in just shorts... but do you know, I've never given it much thought. For the record, I don't give a shit what anyone's armpits look like either.

I can't really see how a spaghetti strap offers more cooling than say, an inch-wide strap, but I imagine I'd fairly unfazed by it either way if I went to see my solicitor/estate agent/doctor etc.

I saw lots of professional types yesterday and can't remember what a single one had on, apart from the man in a long-sleeved shirt and tie, looking v uncomfortable.

Angelil · 04/07/2018 16:17

You can also buy strapless bras you know.

RobbiesRuthie33 · 05/07/2018 17:02

Couldn't really care less if people feel the need to dress as if they're in Magaluf as soon as the sun comes out. What does get my goat though is as a health care professional, I'm currently wearing dark blue uniform issue trousers, a heavy tunic and lace up shoes with socks. Meanwhile, matron's secretary is prancing around in strappy top, mini skirt, bare legs and sandals, agonizing about the best place to tie bunches of balloons for today's NHS birthday celebrations and applauding the lovely weather. I would like to kill her.
