There's a fuck off hornet in my outbuilding

Aibu to want to burn it down.

Our freezer lives in the outbuilding. I just went to get myself a raspberry magnum and this fucker of a hornet is buzzing like crazy.

I have run away and left the door open hoping it will bugger off.

I want my Magnum.

Stingey meaning ungenerous? (With the magnums?) Grin

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/06/2018 14:16

Apparently they are less likely to sting than wasps
www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/invertebrates/bees-wasps-and-ants/hornet

So just go and get your magnum and I'll start the whip round for grapes for your hospital stay

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 26/06/2018 14:16

Magnums are fucking gross and hornets are fairly harmless at this time of year I think? So I think yabu - I’m probably being a weirdo though Grin.

UnaOfStormhold · 26/06/2018 14:17

Hornets don't generally attack humans unless you're close to their nests. But as a PP said, if it's an Asian Hornet then please try to get a picture and report it as they can be a huge problem for bees and native insects. It has become established in France and is having a devastating effect there, so beekeepers and others are very worried that it will cross the channel and become established here;

Info here on how to identify it and what to do if you see one:

LeighaJ · 26/06/2018 14:17

I use to be very scared of hornets until I realised they're incredibly stupid herp derpers, they just have good outer protection.

PoohBearsHole · 26/06/2018 14:18

We had a nest in our roof

They are vicious fuckers who attack you. Yup they actually attack you. They dive at you

They are noisy, buzzy and stingy.

I felt no guilt calling pest control to come and kill them

They're back though!

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 14:27

Pooh I would have to move out. I can't imagine more than one of them.

TattyFrench · 26/06/2018 14:27

Oh my giddy aunt!!!! Do not Google images of Giant Asian Hornet.

Roomofmyown · 26/06/2018 14:32

Have been attacked by hornets - absolutely terrifying and the woman walking next to me ended up in hospital. Run for your life! Plenty more Magnums/magna in the shops!

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 14:35

Tatty I've just googled!

It's definitely going to be Magna for me. Grin

And just in case anyone gets all uppity with us Wink they were coming into our bedrooms at night time, especially the dc's rooms as they had nightlights ( and they are attracted to them). They messed with my babies Angry

PoohBearsHole · 26/06/2018 14:36

I was tempted to move out!

Their nest was the size of a 70's space hopper Sad

MargoLovebutter · 26/06/2018 14:38

I wasn't joking when I said they are viscous bastards. They will attack. I was chased by 3 of the fuckers & had to jump in a pool (was on holiday) to escape them. One of them got me and I am not an allergic person at all but the site of the sting, which hurt very, very much swelled up to be the size of a dinner plate & was roasting hot to the touch. It took days to go down.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 26/06/2018 14:39

PoohBear

No judgement here! One hornet is one thing - a nest is quite another. I’d have done the same.

WeldMeDaphne · 26/06/2018 15:02

I had one in my kitchen on Sunday. I trapped it under a (big) glass and then used wasp powder. Hideous hideous thing 😩😩

runsmidgeOMG · 26/06/2018 15:05

"Do not google giant Asian hornet"

Done... and wish I hadn't ! 🙈🙈

TattyFrench · 26/06/2018 15:22

Runsmidge the giant Asian ones are colossal aren't they??? Makes my hornet look teeny, tiny.

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 15:38

It's gone

The magnum was ace.

This is one of my absolutely favourite nuggets of nature info, and favourite comic strips (though I warn you to have tissues to hand if you delve further into Oatmeal and read "My Dog: The Paradox". )

Glad you enjoyed your magnum OP

Yes huge great whoppers...
do NOT wanna come up against them

OnlyaMan · 28/06/2018 14:24

You may not like this, but...….if you have seen one hornet, you probably have a nest. In your outbuilding.
See if the Local Authority will deal with this as Pest Control. If not, you will have to be brave. Google "Hornets Nests", and follow the advice. It will involve all-over protection, face masks, gloves, "Derris Dust", and so on. You will have to do without the Magnum (Magna?) until you have won the war.
Good luck!

FortheloveofCod · 28/06/2018 14:54

There's some innuendo in this title surely?

It either sounds like an annoyance or quite a lot of fun.

9amTrain · 28/06/2018 17:17

Omg. I knew that was a hornet I saw dead on the floor outside my house earlier. I didn't realise we got them here, I'd never seen one before. 😅
