There's a fuck off hornet in my outbuilding

Aibu to want to burn it down.

Our freezer lives in the outbuilding. I just went to get myself a raspberry magnum and this fucker of a hornet is buzzing like crazy.

I have run away and left the door open hoping it will bugger off.

I want my Magnum.

It’s probably eaten your magnum Sad

Sparklfairy · 26/06/2018 13:36

Retrieve the magnums before burning obviously

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 13:36

Don't say that Grin

UpstartCrow · 26/06/2018 13:37

This is the one time its totally justified to use a glue trap.

Mia184 · 26/06/2018 13:39

Oh, I just had a strawberry Magnum. I also occasionally get a hornet in my living room and just capture it with a glass and a piece of cardboard and release it outside. Hornets are quite harmless unless they feel threatened.
Go and get your Magnum!

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 13:39

I've got a fly bat but I'm scared I will miss and upset it. It's like a flying dinosaur. It's very large.

OP posts:
Battleax · 26/06/2018 13:40

Best to just look facts in the face. I’m sure there’s a blue ice pole or a frozen chicken breast or something you can nibble on, once you’ve finished burning things down Smile

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 13:40

There is a can of petrol in the out building.

OP posts:
UpstartCrow · 26/06/2018 13:42

A fly bat? Are you mad? Wear a bee suit and use a tennis racquet.

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 13:45

Grinbee suit!

That would be really hot clothing in this weather.

OP posts:
YourVagesty · 26/06/2018 13:47

Is he absolutely massive with a big spiky thing on his bum? Could be a wood-wasp. They are absolutely harmless apparently but look like giant ferocious hornets.

You might still be able to retrieve your magnums.

MrsSteptoe · 26/06/2018 13:49

Leads me to another question that's never been resolved to my entire satisfaction. Is the plural of Magnum Magna?

FizzyWizzyFlash · 26/06/2018 13:49

I thought hornets could kill you? Or did I watch an overly dramatic documentary?

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 13:49

Your well maybe, this is where we store our logs.

OP posts:
MargoLovebutter · 26/06/2018 13:51

Hornets are viscous bastards. I've never known a sting like it - swelling the size of a dinner plate and hot enough to cook my own dinner on.

Drive to the shop to buy the magnum and get a container of petrol on the way home and torch the place.

BuffysFavouriteStake · 26/06/2018 13:54

Ooh is it an Asian hornet? Apparently you're supposed to report those (maybe they send a specialist control unit to rescue trapped magnums ??)

Seriously, those things are hardcore. Get a spacesuit. And a flamethrower.

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 13:55

I am worrying that it has a family close by. There could be loads just waiting.

OP posts:
UpstartCrow · 26/06/2018 13:56

MrsSteptoe
Is the plural of Magnum Magna?

I've never had plural Magnums long enough for it to be an issue.

purpleviolets · 26/06/2018 13:56

My mum has suggested wasp killer spray. That's going to really upset it though.

OP posts:
Battleax · 26/06/2018 14:04

Yes but it’ll be dead as well as upset.

MargoLovebutter · 26/06/2018 14:04

Noooooooooooooooooooooo, don't go anywhere near it with wasp killer!!!!!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 26/06/2018 14:07

You can't kill hornets with wasp spray! (Disclaimer, that may not be true, trying to appear helpful).

BuffysFavouriteStake · 26/06/2018 14:09

Can of wasp spray on both hips, like a gunslinger Motorcycle helmet in case it dives at you. Tennis racquet with the cover on for backup. and please take pictures Grin

One flew straight at me a few weeks ago. It took a thick hardback book in the face and kept on flying. Luckily the second hit deflected it out the window. I nailed the curtains shut after that.

TattyFrench · 26/06/2018 14:10

Do you live near me? A great big shit of a hornet just flew into my living room! Yesterday it tried to get my bedroom. I hate the bastards, they're nearly as big as a helicopter.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 26/06/2018 14:12

I think spraying it is just going to make it mad.. and stingey. (Is that a word?)
