To think this behaviour regarding Pope's visit to Ireland is despicable

The Pope is visiting Ireland in August and two public Masses will be held. For Health and Safety reasons numbers attending have to be limited so free tickets are being allocated, on line, on a first come first served basis.

People who object to his visit are deliberately buying up thousands of tickets, booking in fake coach tours etc to ensure a low turn out and, in the process, deny tickets to those who want to attend.

AIBU to think that, whatever your religious beliefs, this is petty, vindictive, intolerant and downright despicable behaviour>

Yes it's true. Part of the Sydney "t-shirt protest" of 2008 (Pope Benedict). Many protesters who wished him a swift departure for his homophobic views plumped for the "Pope Go Homo" fashion options instead.

hotsouple · 07/07/2018 01:46

oh lord user1485342611. Every time you post I think worse of you. I can literally only imagine you as an incredibly close minded neighborhood busybody with a complete inability to empathize with points other than your own.

SilverySurfer · 07/07/2018 02:28

Whatever your opinion OP by starting this thread you have made many people aware of what is happening. I had read nothing about it in the UK media.

So I reckon you are directly responsible for significantly increasing the number of tickets which have been bought but destined not to be used. Obviously not the outcome you intended.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 07/07/2018 02:38

Agree with many pps. User is it wrong that I see you getting redder and redder in the face and steam comes out of your ears. Perhaps a little frothing. You of all posters do not sound calm, reasoned, or able to explain and back up anything you say.
Walkingdead's posts have been eloquent, factual and clear. I can only imagine you are wilfully missing the point. More than one point really.
Also you would do worse than to think about the points made by MrsTerry and puzzles andpissedoff and lolaflores. Although if you haven't realised by now that the horror with a smiling, humble(ish) seeming guy as the public facing spokesman of the lot of them is actually even more sinister . That horror with a smiling face.
I think that the Aussie protests were absolutely brilliant but no doubt you peed a bit in delighted disgust at the thought of such heathen effrontery from people who like to rub their matching genitals together and their dirty minded loose moraled supporters.
You listen to single, unmarried men in dresses over their trousers telling you your body is not your own, even now. You are actively supporting evil** in a myriad of ways and that will always need calling out.

notTrans related, just a bit bonkers really and I say tbat as someone who never grew out of the 1990's jeans and dress style.
**not single and sometimes married in many many cases.
demonstrated amply on this thread is evidence of abuses and sadistic practices. No need to repeat here.
I hope that voices like yours Op will have no place in the future. Our kids might be the one to make this planet better. Why the fuck should they bloody have to though?
Anyway i can start to feel myself getting warmer and warmer although whether it's down to becoming aerated on here, tropical heat in Hertfordshire or the hot flashes in the nights I now have.
Thanks Op for bringing this to my attention. I am getting a lot of pleasure out of the irony of you being an oblivious messenger of anti RC activities

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/07/2018 02:49

I'll tell you what, the Sister in charge of my school was just as dogmatic as any TRA and just as thick-headed in her thinking. Which is why I stormed put of a Pro-life video presentation at the age of 14.

And why I continue to deride dogma and insensibility wherever I see it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/07/2018 08:50

That horror with a smiling face

An excellent description - I couldn't have put it better myself

It's interesting that the Catholic supporting posters rarely reply to mentions of these ongoing crimes, no matter how detailed; they huff and puff and insist that "things are going to be different now" (though without suggesting how), but can't quite bring themselves to condemn the organisation that continues to support the horrors

Sad though it is, I really can't help thinking that what they really want is for the whole thing to go away and simply not be talked about

Atlastatlastatlast · 07/07/2018 09:05

User ignore the blustering posters on here. Your posts have been calm and absolutely reflective of what anyone I've heard talking about this in Ireland is saying.

Someone described this threadas an echo chamber and that's exactly what it has sadly become.

Part of me is amused at the lack of self awareness of some of these posters but overall it is horrible to see how antagonistic and bitter some of them are.

Just keep reminding yourself that this is not RL and it is the sentiments expressed on here that are being widely criticised out in the real world where people have a sense of balance and perspective. That's where you belong not in this echoing cave of sad bitterness.

rainingcatsanddog · 07/07/2018 09:13

Those people don't stand for tolerance. They stand for bitterness and blind intolerance.

Big organizations like the Catholic Church, the Police or the BBC only apologize to victims when shamed into doing so or to minimize public embarrassment. They only apologize to what can be proven and to maintain their power or financial worth.

Have things really changed in the Catholic Church? (I don't know so I'm asking) Have they helped the police convict the criminal and paid for emotional support for victims? Or have they swept things under the carpet and think that words suffice?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/07/2018 09:30

raining I believe there's been some funding for counselling, though it raises the question of how they've sourced the counsellors and what their agenda might be (he who pays the piper and all that)

However it's reported that in many cases this is now being cut, which seems a shame as it's not as if the church can't afford it. Perhaps the massive compensation bills they're having to meet have caused them to look for savings?

squeekums · 08/07/2018 02:54

@Walkingdeadfangirl
I find myself nodding immensely in agreement with your posts, you put it perfectly

rainingcatsanddog · 08/07/2018 08:52

Puzzled As I suspected. Sad

wendiwoowho · 08/07/2018 13:44

Where are you apologies for the abuse?

Why should OP have to apologise for the abuse? Confused

funinthesun18 · 08/07/2018 13:53

To be honest I couldn’t give a shit. I’m not a religious person at all but I know that religion is a fucked up one.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2018 19:40

@rainingcatsanddogs you might want to look at the following about victims of abuse who've resigned from the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, and then contrast their remarks with the church's assurances about what the commission was going to do. It makes for interesting - if very disturbing - reading

www.thetablet.co.uk/news/8235/peter-saunders-resigns-from-pope-s-child-protection-commission-

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2018 19:53

Incidentally, it was also Marie Collins who handed in a letter to the Vatican concerning the Chilean abusers - the letter which they later denied receiving

Some might wonder whether the obstruction she encountered had anything to do with her involvement in this and her clear wish to see something done about it

Just seen this thread. I live in Ireland and this protest is considered pathetic and nasty even by most lapsed Catholics. Thankfully it seems to have had absolutely no effect.
