To Rip My Eyes & Throat Out?

Smokeahontas · 24/06/2018 22:11

Fucking hayfever fuck. I’ve never had this level of it, it’s beyond a joke. My nose has been bleeding since yesterday, my throat feels like I’ve taken a power sander to it and my eyes look like I’ve been on a 72 hour bender.

Tried loratadine, Otrivine nasal spray & eye drops. Now debating double dosing on loratadine for even a hint of relief.

Beclamthasone nasal spray?

angelnix · 24/06/2018 22:13

I'm right there with you, I've taken loratidine this morning, cetirizine this afternoon and will take piriton before bed, plus showering twice a day, I feel like crap.

Allthewaves · 24/06/2018 22:14

I'm on fexofenidine and montelukast from gp for an allergy condition and I have nonhayfever systoms now but i'm having to top up with loratdine in the evening

clairethewitch70 · 24/06/2018 22:14

I generally find cetirizine better than loratadine but that might just be me.

MagentaRocks · 24/06/2018 22:16

My mum uses something similar to this. You shove it in your nose a few times a day for a few minutes. She said her symptoms are much less. I used to get hay fever really bad but it has eased a bit so don’t have the desire to rip my throat out as often now.

Schroedingerscatagain · 24/06/2018 22:21

Steroid nasal spray of your choice, I use avamys from the gp, sodium cromoglycate eye drops (opticrom)
Anti histamine nasal spray (rhinolast) much more targeted than oral antihistamine and the latest research shows it to be more effective

Smokeahontas · 24/06/2018 22:22

allthewaves - the pharmacist did tell me about that but it takes a couple of days to build up & work. Is Fexo prescription only?

I must look like I have a severe cocaine problem, my nose is that annoying

OP posts:
pasanda · 24/06/2018 22:24

Fexo is prescription only. It helps my son but not enough. He is always sniffing!!

Interested to read of some alternatives

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/06/2018 22:27

My ey3s feel like someon3s just standing in front of me blowing pepper in my face. Yesterday morning woke to my nose dripping like a tap. I never had hay fever before I had my daughter 6 years ago, now. It hits me full force 😭

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/06/2018 22:28

Usually use piroteze , work for most of the the symptoms except sneezing 😐

EllenOlenska · 24/06/2018 22:28

Otrivine should not be used long term and it can exacerbate issues and affect your sinuses. Something like beconase would be much better.

KakunaRattata · 24/06/2018 22:29

Have you tried benadryl allergy relief, it's the only one that contains acrivastine and the only one that works for me.

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 24/06/2018 22:34

I've also been taking loratadine in the morning and cetrizine at night. I'm (un)fortunately stuck in the house mostly at the mo, but even so it's still bad, and I totally get the wanting to rip my face off and have a bloody good scratch underneath and want to stick forks in my ears to give them a scratch too! Even going outside briefly makes it instantly even worse - have also been finding that I'm also getting wheezy, especially at night. I guess the next step would be to see the gp and find out if there's anything you can get in prescription that might be more effective?

Luckymummy22 · 24/06/2018 22:45

So it’s not just me tonight then........

Smokeahontas · 24/06/2018 23:02

@EllenOlenska yeah the pharmacist warned me not to use the spray for more than 7 days.

I haven’t tried Benadryl allergy relief, is it drowsy or non drowsy? If it’s non, I’ll give it a whirl. If that doesn’t work...tampons up my nose?! Grin

I am wondering why on earth you need a script for fexofenadine?? In Oz it’s OTC, and I know many people who live on it (worst allergy numbers in the world in SE Australia apparently)...

My DH has been taking it for years, with no apparent issues.
Weird.

Anyway, yes, even if it is “just” hayfever, it’s worth a trip to the GP, and getting some script stuff.

I feel for you, my life was miserable with it. For some odd reason i actually have less problems with it now I’m o/seas. The only person for miles who doesn’t get hayfever!

lborgia · 24/06/2018 23:10

Oh, and btw, my kid’s allergy guy said that it is better to cycle your antihistimines, ie, 2 weeks of one kind, then 2 weeks of another.. as they stop working as effectively.

Also, apparently you can up your dose quite happily with no issues BUT DO NOT TAKE MY WORD ON THAT. He has my youngest (8yr old) on 15mg of clarytine, not 10mg...

HTH

MissConductUS · 24/06/2018 23:13

Benadryl is the bomb.

startingtheengine · 24/06/2018 23:20

Try being pregnant and being told you can only take Piriton but try not to have it too regularly! My nose is ruined Sad and my pelvic floor is having to work over time 🙈

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 24/06/2018 23:29

Loratidine, cetirazine, beclomethazone oral inhaler (asthma), fluticazone nasal inhaler and sodium cromoglycate eye drops.

Tomorrow's forecast is strong sunshine from the start, very high pollem count and a warning for medium pollution.

WTF is 'medium' pollution?

EllenOlenska · 25/06/2018 01:10

Not familiar with benadryl in all honesty. I take ceterizine and beconase all year round as it the nasal spray helps with all round allergies not just hayfever and the ceterizine has an accumulative effect so as it's always in my system it's helped me manage it a lot better. I wish I'd been told that years ago!
In all seriousness though, what works for me or others may not work for you so all else failing a good chat with your GP could be the next step to discuss.

It is horrendous this year. My ds who usually suffers for about 2 weeks every summer, has had full blown symptoms, which otc stuff isn't touching, since the beginning of may. He has had to miss school his eyes have been dreadful, cucumber slices seem to be helping a little.
Mines rough but manageable.
I have another ds who has come out in some sort of eczema rash thing for the first time ever allergens everywhere this year

Smokeahontas · 25/06/2018 08:44

Having been up all bloody night, I phoned my GP first thing and they’re going to leave me out a prescription for fexofenadine. Even if it halved my symptoms I’d be delighted. Also need to buy a box of tissues, that’s a pack of balsam ones I’ve worked my way through since Saturday morning.

Believeitornot · 25/06/2018 08:50

The best nasal spray I’ve used is a barrier one - prevalin. It’s drug free so you can use it when pregnant.

That combined with Vaseline around the eyes andvery strict pollen control at home means I survive.

Pollen control = windows and curtains in the bedrooms closed all day, only open at night. Wet dust around my room. Rinse face and hair when I get in from outside. Never hang bedding outside to dry otherwise it collects pollen.

I hate hay fever!!
