especially not if the rider needs to make a billion point turn to park in the front garden.

and surely it's not legal to ride on the pavement?

noisy and inconsiderate bastard.

DH considers himself a motorbike aficionado and says Harleys are NOT for serious riders, just for show off twats (he says!)
All those Hell's Angels must not be serious riders then...

Buster72 · 25/06/2018 13:31

The original hells angels just chopped what they could afford. Harleys are preposterously priced for what you get.

IIIustriousIyIIlogical · 25/06/2018 13:32

Why have other bikers said they dont have to have the engine on? It can’t be that ridiculous a suggestion.

Depends on the bike, the person, the slope, the weather (wet/dry), the condition of the path..........

That enough for you?

UnfinishedSenten · 25/06/2018 13:58

Davros, my 65 year old gdad, who has been riding for 45+ years, would definitely tell your husband different. His Harley is his pride and joy he's worked hard for it all his life he certainly isn't a show off twat.
He's also part of Harley Davidson motorbike group, very very serious about his bikes he built his first ever bike at 19.

MariaMadita · 25/06/2018 14:27

Doesn't it just depend on the person?

Some are probably show off. Some probably aren't.

It's a bit like horses. Some people are really bread obsessed because they're image conscious or want to brag online (uses the relative anonymity of the internet to waive at a certain aunt...).

And others chose a certain breed because they love the breed, felt like it was right for them / what they needed etc? Or just fell in love with a certain horse?

(I think it's obvious, I know nothing about motorbikes. Or motorised vehicles in general, tbh.Blush)

Riding on pavements isn't okay, other than crossing into a drive etc via a dropped curb.

OP, given that HD hasn't yet developed bikes capable of verticle takeoff, how would you like me to get my bike from the main road to my garage if not via the residential area I live in?

I would rather have the sound of a Harley than one of a moped , they sound like a bad tempered lawn mower and a washing machine with colic have mated

This has made my day...so true.

IIIustriousIyIIlogical · 25/06/2018 14:55

Riding on pavements isn't okay, other than crossing into a drive etc via a dropped curb.

I ride just past the entrance to my drive on the pavement & then reverse the bike in - because there's no room to turn it round when it's on the drive/in the garage.

No doubt the OP would be rushing out & throwing herself in my way if she was my neighbour....

SoupDragon · 25/06/2018 14:55

That enough for you?

No, please add some more patronising. It would be very helpful.

MexicanBob · 25/06/2018 15:40

Harleys. Fat slow old bikes for fat slow old men.

Carouselfish · 25/06/2018 15:53

Sexiest noise in the world, OP.

Carouselfish · 25/06/2018 15:55

Revving through a gear change is how I learned to ride mine.

My other half rides a Harley but I take your point to some extent. Our dog knows he is coming home from about a mile away!

On the other hand he tries to be quite considerate, his bike is loud so he turns off the engine and cruises the last few yards home especially late at night or early in the morning.

TSSDNCOP · 25/06/2018 17:21

It is the revving.

We have a neighbour that rides one. Every Saturday she sits astride it in her leather suit (more DFS sofa than Suzi Quattro and revs the arse out of the fucker until the windows shake and the air is filled with exhaust fumes.

Every Saturday I seethe knowing she’s paid her road tax and is as entitled to drive as I am.

She’s still a revvy wanker though.

Brahumbug · 25/06/2018 19:53

If you think a Harley is noisy, you would hate my DH'a Ducati 900ssGrin
