Is this too much for a snack?

My 12 years old gets home from school and has 3/4 Krisprolls with lots of honey and peanut butter and 2 small glasses of milk. This is around 4 pm. We have dinner around 8. Is this too much? I know he is growing and his weight is fine but I am a bit concerned. Can mums of teens on Mumsnet give me some perspective? Told him off today for having a second glass of milk and hated myself afterConfused. Don't like controlling what he eats but it seems excessive for a snack

So that’s all he’s having between about 1pm amd 8pm? In my experience that’s a very light snack for a 12 year old boy!

gamerchick · 21/06/2018 17:05

No it's fine when you're being starved between 12 and 8 Confused poor bugger.

Aridane · 21/06/2018 17:06

8pm is late!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/06/2018 17:07

It sounds totally normal to me.
Dd generally has a sandwich or a couple of slices of toast with jam/peanut butter and a milky cup of tea, she's been having similar for years and is a healthy weight.

BertrandRussell · 21/06/2018 17:07

Blimey. That wouldn’t touch the sides for my teenager!

Racecardriver · 21/06/2018 17:09

Well considering that you eat dinner so late he would need a light meal in the afternoon really so sounds fine.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 21/06/2018 17:14

Doesn't sound enough at all.
Does he have a big lunch in school?
My 5 year old eats more than that when she gets home from school and then we have dinner at 5.30/6

ButchyRestingFace · 21/06/2018 17:14

You told your kid off for having a glass of milk? Confused

TheGreatCornholio · 21/06/2018 17:16

Why the fuck would you tell him off for having a glass of MILK?

Rach5ll · 21/06/2018 17:17

Wow that's not a lot compared to my 13yo boy. He gets in and makes a chicken/vegetable stir-fry either with a peanut butter roll or an omelette. He then has a dinner around 8. He's tall & slim so I'm not bothered

Trinity66 · 21/06/2018 17:17

Sounds reasonable to me if you don't eat dinner till 8pm

jarhead123 · 21/06/2018 17:18

Poor kid is probably starving! My 8 year old needs more than that

Angrybird345 · 21/06/2018 17:19

8 is very late for dinner! What time does he go to bed?

Chocolateismyvice · 21/06/2018 17:20

Sounds fine to me.

TheVanguardSix · 21/06/2018 17:20

You’ve got food-related issues, OP if you told him off for having a second glass of milk. Unless you have financial worries. In this case, plowing through the milk isn’t on. What exactly are you worried about? Weight gain?

AlonsosLeftPinky · 21/06/2018 17:23

The snack sounds fine.

Please stop telling your child off for having a drink when they're thirsty.

Merryoldgoat · 21/06/2018 17:25

Why is dinner so late?

Whatshallidonowpeople · 21/06/2018 17:26

Milk is not a drink for thirst, it is food (for babies but that's another matter). If he is thirsty he should drink water. Milk will not quench thirst.

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 21/06/2018 17:27

What’s a Krisproll?

SecretNutellaFix · 21/06/2018 17:28

Are we talking pint glasses of milk each time?

PickAChew · 21/06/2018 17:29

I've started buying the giant tubs of peanut butter for my 12 year old. The little jars barely touch the sides!

He'd probably have that lot twice between school and 8pm, too!

Ragwort · 21/06/2018 17:30

Good grief, I thought you would say he is eating a few Ginster's pasties washed down with Red Bull Shock - my teenage DS had a banana, three hot dogs, crisps with guacamole posh, a few slices of cheese and half a tub of Ben & Jerry's as a snack yesterday. And he is not overweight at all.

JamPasty · 21/06/2018 17:32

Milk will not quench thirst.

Of course it will - milk is more than 80% water

Donotbequotingmeinbold · 21/06/2018 17:32

That wouldn't keep me going from lunch until 8. He could be very hungry every night. Have you asked him?

KirstenRaymonde · 21/06/2018 17:33

Krisprolls are barely more than crackers, I’m not surprised he’s hungry. Why do you eat so late? Fine for adults but not for growing kids.
