To be losing patience with this friend (restaurant booking)

A group of us, who haven't met in a while, are trying to organise a night out. I said I'd book a restaurant. However, one particular friend, no matter what restaurant I suggest, has a problem with it. She hates Chinese food, can't even stand the smell of garlic, doesn't like wine so wants a restaurant that serves beer as well and on, and on and on.

I suggested that she choose somewhere and suggest it to the group but she just said that she's not well up on restaurants and wouldn't know where to pick.

AIBU to wish she'd just bail out of the evening as she's bloody impossible to keep happy. She basically seems to want to eat in a glorified version of McDonald's that also serves beer, while the rest of us would like somewhere that's a bit more or a treat.

Some restaurants have very poor beer selections, and often do not list them on their online menus.

Reminds me of the Gareth thread. Grin

Book a restaurant that you like and let her decide whether she is coming or not.

Next time tell her book your local Weatherspoons.

Trinity66 · 19/06/2018 15:08

and not that many restaurants that serve beer as well as wine

I find that really hard to believe, I'm in Cork and most restaurants serve beer so I'm sure Dublin does as well

good luck. we have a family member like this. doesn't like indian or chinese or fancy food or garlic or anything spicy or foreign and the list goes on and on. Even when you pick a place they agree with they pull faces as they read the menu, then begrudgingly choose something and then pick at it ,flicking it around their plate like a disgruntled toddler. It spoils what should be a pleasant evening. If they weren't family the invites would have stopped ages ago.
Its draining and instead of getting excited about a nice meal out, your heart sinks when you know the rigmarole you will have to go through to find somewhere acceptable, not only that but it rules out loads of lovely places you want to try.
You have my sympathies.

If they are both single, it sounds like Gareth and the OPs fussy friend would get on.

They could have a date in Wetherspoons on the beer and burger night, while the OP and her friends have a great time at Spicy as Fuck's sister restaurant, Garlic Garlic Garlic.
