To be losing patience with this friend (restaurant booking)

A group of us, who haven't met in a while, are trying to organise a night out. I said I'd book a restaurant. However, one particular friend, no matter what restaurant I suggest, has a problem with it. She hates Chinese food, can't even stand the smell of garlic, doesn't like wine so wants a restaurant that serves beer as well and on, and on and on.

I suggested that she choose somewhere and suggest it to the group but she just said that she's not well up on restaurants and wouldn't know where to pick.

AIBU to wish she'd just bail out of the evening as she's bloody impossible to keep happy. She basically seems to want to eat in a glorified version of McDonald's that also serves beer, while the rest of us would like somewhere that's a bit more or a treat.

I've never come across a restaurant that doesn't sell beer... fascinated by this concept! They may not sell craft beers or on tap beer but they all hold a bottled beer selection!

PinkHeart5914 · 19/06/2018 13:39

Surely most restaurants sell beer? Even high end places tend to sell beer

I’ve just book somewhere and say I’ve booked x for next weekend or whatever, keep asking the fussy one and your never meet up! You need to just tell her it’s booked

Mulberry72 · 19/06/2018 13:39

which is the place that does the amazing chicken wings in Dublin?

Is it the Elephant & Castle? That’s s great place!

NerrSnerr · 19/06/2018 13:40

I don't think I have ever been to a restaurant who doesn't sell beer.

XiCi · 19/06/2018 13:46

Oh come on! Not that many restaurants that serve beer? I think it's you that's being awkward here, sounds like you just can't be bothered with the friend. Is it a specific beer that she wants because it's very rare that a restaurant doesn't serve bottles of beer at least and even the smallest will have one on tap as well. A restaurant that isn't Chinese that can rumble up a glass of beer surely isn't a big ask in Dublin.

LighthouseSouth · 19/06/2018 13:53

Don't pander to this child. Pick where you're happy with. Pfft.

youmeandconchitawurst · 19/06/2018 13:53

Yabu
the Sussex on upper leeson Street would fit you perfectly. Food, wine and beer are all excellent. It's a nice environment that is more bistro than pub.

Loonoon · 19/06/2018 13:59

The Green Hen is nice and central and serves beer.

DarlingNikita · 19/06/2018 13:59

seriously most Dublin restaurants don't sell beer I'm baffled by this!

Me too! I can't believe that.

So what happens if you all sit down to dinner and one of you has the temerity to order something with garlic in it? I would do this deliberately Will she have to leave?

She sounds a pain in the arse. I'd tell her to pick a place herself or she can come to wherever you choose and just deal with it.

ChateauneufDuTwat · 19/06/2018 14:01

No restaurants. In Dublin. That serve beer.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

MyKingdomForBrie · 19/06/2018 14:02

Put it to the vote on the group thread, she doesn’t get to dictate to everyone. Just pick a selection of say three which includes one of the suggestions on here for her prefs and see what ppl vote for. Majority wins.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/06/2018 14:03

I'd go to that tapas place that was one of the first ones to be mentioned, sit right next to her and order prawns in garlic sauce, potatoes with garlic mayonnaise and garlic bread.

WolandWat · 19/06/2018 14:06

not that many restaurants that serve beer as well as wine

Can this be true of anywhere??? I have never experienced such a place (but tbh Pizza Express is the poshest I get...).

RecliningHenderson · 19/06/2018 14:10

I have never ever been in a restaurant which has wine as it’s only alcoholic beverage. 99% of restaurants serve beer. She does sound like a pain though.

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 19/06/2018 14:10

Seems like a steak house would suit her? There are loads in Dublin, I'm sure 1 or 2 must serve beer!

NomNomNomNom · 19/06/2018 14:11

I am also now very curious about the no beer thing. I have literally never been to a restaurant that didn't serve any beer! I have a few friends tat prefer beer to wine and I've never given it a second thought.

Coldilox · 19/06/2018 14:12

Go wherever, just pick the garlickiest thing on the menuGrin

tremendous · 19/06/2018 14:13

What about that place that does chicken wings served with celery. I can't remember what it's called but it's always heaving. It's in temple bar.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/06/2018 14:16

I also want to know what the OP meant by 'not that many restaurants that sell beer'.

Please explain OP. We need to know.

dueanotherchange · 19/06/2018 14:21

Is Brasserie 66 nice now? It used to be dreadful.

Drury St Buildings is very good. And so's Pichet on Trinity St.

TaytoAllDay · 19/06/2018 14:27

What, Of course restaurants in Dublin serve beer!

Yanbu btw she needs to agree to somewhere.

Market is lovely, The Exchequer, P.Macs, Searsons....loooooads more!

Aeroflotgirl · 19/06/2018 14:32

Go to a pub that serves food, or TGI, Frankie and Bennie, or Middletons steakhouse.

sonjadog · 19/06/2018 14:37

Which restaurants have you been to in Dublin that you know don't sell beer? Let's start this at the other end...

Neverender · 19/06/2018 14:40

The Hairy Lemon!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 19/06/2018 14:44

I think for a beer lover there's a difference between having a lovely selection of craft beers on tap (pub) and having a couple of bottles beer choices (restaurant).

And she does sound like a pain.
