To not want to see doctor about me fainting

FaintyMcFainterton · 19/06/2018 12:34

My parents and husband think I should see the doctor because I often get extremely dizzy and sometimes fully pass out when rising from a sitting or lying position.

Anyone else have this problem? Do I really need to waste a doctor's time with it?

Of course you need to see a doctor. Don't be daft. It could be POTS. It could be something as simple as dehydration but it could also be something more serious. Get it checked out.

frustratedashell · 19/06/2018 12:36

Why wouldn't you go? I would, it's not normal to have that happening

sonypony · 19/06/2018 12:39

I do, used to a lot more. DR just said it's because blood pressure lowers when you stand up so get up more slowly and don't bother me about this again basically Hmm

Mumminmum · 19/06/2018 12:39

Is it because you actually do know that you have been doing something stupid and you don't want to confront it? Or do you actually believe that it is normal to faint occasionally? Fainting is extremely dangerous. Please go to the doctor.

mindutopia · 19/06/2018 12:41

It could be postural tachycardia syndrome. Google it and see if that sounds like what’s happening to you. Yes, do see your doctor though. It can be managed with lifestyle changes and medications if you need them.

Seniorcitizen1 · 19/06/2018 12:43

You are being foolish. These could be mini strokes or a problem with your heart. You might not come round next time if either of the above. See a Dr urgently

FlyingElbows · 19/06/2018 12:46

You would not be wasting the doctor's time. Do you really believe that or are you fearful of what they might tell you?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/06/2018 12:46

Get it checked out. It could be a number of conditions e.g. POTS or Orthostatic Hypotension or a sign of something underlying that needs treating.

BlueBug45 · 19/06/2018 12:47

OP if you are worried about the GP not taking you seriously bring along someone who sees you faint regularly to the appointment.

Elspeth12345 · 19/06/2018 12:48

It's a good idea to see the GP if it's happened a few times.

It's most like simple fainting from 'Orthostatic Hypotension' (which just means that your blood pressure drops significantly when getting up from lying down or sitting) and less likely to be POTs or anything to worry about but it's worth getting your blood pressure checked and seeing whether the GP needs to do any heart investigations.

Elspeth12345 · 19/06/2018 12:48

** most likely to be, not 'most like'

Takfujuimoto · 19/06/2018 12:51

Put yourself in your parents and DH shoes, wouldn't you want a loved one to see a doctor/find out why they suddenly kept fainting?

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 19/06/2018 12:52

Definitely get it checked out to be on the safe side. I was fainting for years before I was diagnosed with low blood pressure. I'm still fainting but at least I know why.

Elspeth12345 · 19/06/2018 12:53

Also I have the same thing but as it's only happened twice I haven't seen the GP.

It's something that other members of my family experience- we all have quite low blood pressure to begin with but then if we stand/rise suddenly then our blood pressures just drop and cause fainting/dizziness.

The important thing is to get up slowly, particularly when lying down, which lets your blood pressure rise slowly.

If it is just Orthostatic Hypotension then the only real risk if from fainting and injuring yourself whilst falling so it's important to get up slowly and also to recognize the signs of dizziness/faintness and lie down quickly if you experience them.

adoggymama · 19/06/2018 12:55

If you don't want to go to the doctor, at least try adding lots more salt to your diet- I was blacking out when I stood up/randomly a couple years ago and I went to the doctor and she said to add more salt. :)

Littlelondoner · 19/06/2018 12:56

Go. I used to have this all the time. I had nerve damage in my ear it turned out. Couple weeks of physio and it never happened again. Can't believe I suffered for so long.

Deffo worth it...as it could be something equally as easy to fix.

MrsJayy · 19/06/2018 13:00

Imagine if your husband just randomly conked out what would you say to him ?

GeorgiePirate · 19/06/2018 13:02

You should be investigated. You're describing postural hypotension which may have several causes. No Dr would think you are wasting their time with this presentation.

insancerre · 19/06/2018 13:05

Well you could be fine and on the other hand you could have a condition that needs treating
But you will never know if you don't get it checked by your GP
Don't be a martyr, just go and get it checked

Tallyhooo · 19/06/2018 13:06

I get this, but I'm 10 weeks preg so put it down to blood pressure - if you don't know why its happening OP get it checked

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 19/06/2018 13:08

Well it’s entirely your decision to have whatever medical treatment you choose but I would probably go in case there is a way they can stop them. It’s probably nothing but I’d rather not be fainting all the time, you might fall down the stairs or something

LemonysSnicket · 19/06/2018 14:11

Do is have an eating disorder and don't want to confront it?

MaunderHunt · 19/06/2018 14:14

MaunderHunt · 19/06/2018 14:14
