To not want to see doctor about me fainting

FaintyMcFainterton · 19/06/2018 12:34

My parents and husband think I should see the doctor because I often get extremely dizzy and sometimes fully pass out when rising from a sitting or lying position.

Anyone else have this problem? Do I really need to waste a doctor's time with it?

@MaunderHunt I sincerely hope she doesn't drive given that she may murder people if she faints whilst doing so...

My dad used to faint a lot. He never got a driving ban, although he was advised not to for a couple of weeks. He ended up with a pacemaker (after blood pressure had eventually been ruled out - it took years). Get the process started!

Seriously you people? Scaring the hell out of the OP. If it was a heart problem it would happen at other times. If it is just from rising quickly it is the associated drop in blood pressure, do you suffer from low blood pressure OP? By all means see your doctor but its most likely a simple vasovagal faint.

BarryTheKestrel · 19/06/2018 14:25

Go and see your doctor. I suffer too. Have had lots of tests. Nothing conclusive but nothing they are overly worried about either, however as mine happen randomly and can happen from a sitting position rather than raising to a stand on occasion I am not allowed to drive until I am at least 6 months clear of episodes.

Go and see the doctor. It could be absolutely nothing, or it could be something.

That isn't correct. I have POTS and it just kicks in when I stand. Beta blockers control it now. POTS isn't technically a heart condition, it's am issue with the autonomic nervous system, but it does affect your heart rate.

Fainty of course you should go and see the doctor. You won’t be wasting anybody’s time.

Go get checked out.

TheOriginalEmu · 19/06/2018 14:48

@Maunderhunt.......what are you talking about? i fain regularly, and no one has ever menioned removing my driving license. i only happens when i stand up too quickly.

beltanewalk · 19/06/2018 19:17

@gendercritter True but part of POTS is the characteristic tachycardia. The OP mentioned nothing about this, merely simple fainting

I used to get dizzy spells as a teenager, which was put down to low blood pressure / hypoglycemia (and growing too fast Hmm). There was some discussion about medication but I mostly managed it by being more careful about eating regularly and standing up slower and I've now grown out of it. It worried bystanders more than me really so I can understand the OP not being so concerned. I'd start by just keeping track of when it happens and seeing if there are any patterns and if you can manage it before going to the GP, but it is a health problem and that's what GPs are for so don't feel bad about making an appointment.
