Uyulala

I completely agree re: Granddad!
My Dad has always preferred this spelling, for the reasons you gave. I never find 'Granddad' on cards in the shops, so often have to order them online.

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 18/06/2018 17:28

Embarrass/ing/ed.

Rosielily · 18/06/2018 21:45

40 - I always have to check if it's forty or fourty.

I also always confuse practise and practice - not very good for a solicitor with her own practise/ice!

Blackdogsrock · 18/06/2018 22:30

Redundancy could never type it correctly although always right if handwritten, used to get an extra n, I was an HR Director!

FASH84 · 18/06/2018 22:31

Questionnaire

DwangelaForever · 18/06/2018 22:35

Psychological, psychic

I always add an unwanted H in there

littlemisscomper · 18/06/2018 22:50

For those of you who struggle with diarrhoea (as it were! Grin ) I recommend:

Diarrhoea, harassment, embarrassment, eczema

Gwenhwyfar · 18/06/2018 23:03

"Philippines, that actually got me too"

Yes, also Caribbean.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 18/06/2018 23:04

Broccoli. Brocollli?

Gwenhwyfar · 18/06/2018 23:07

"Spelt and spelled are both correct, as are learnt and learned."

Yes, but to add some nuance, Americans don't used the lt/nt endings, only the -ed ones so some people see the -lt and -nt endings as 'more British'.

Justgivemesomepeace · 18/06/2018 23:10

Accelerator and lieu. No idea if I've spelt them right.

xFreePeaceSweetx · 18/06/2018 23:13

I have a book that I got in school called 30 Days Hath September. It has ways of helping you remember such as there is definitely no A in definitely and Diarrhoea Do I Actually Run Run Home Or Else Accident.
I saw this on Facebook i before e except when you run a feisty heist on a weird beige foreign neighbour

lostfrequencies · 18/06/2018 23:23

lookoutcoshereicome · 19/06/2018 00:10

Embarrassed. Not sure that's even right.

lookoutcoshereicome · 19/06/2018 00:11

Diarrhoea too, if I'm tired I always forget how to spell it. I'm usually tired because I've been up all night shitting through the idea of a needle when I need to spell it though.

bookbuddy · 19/06/2018 00:20

“Experience” I always want to put a instead of e sometimes I do & attach I have to stop myself putting an extra t Blush

AnneOfCleavage · 19/06/2018 00:55

Looking at the word Philippines immediately I see it as two words Philip Pines so I will always remember how to spell it. Never have had to before but since this thread you never know.

Giggorata · 19/06/2018 01:16

I'm good at spelling, apart from 2 words... exercise, which I used to be able to spell until we did French, after which I was always doubtful...

The other word is too outing to say because it's my job title and my work. I haven't once been able to get it right, in years and years. I actually do know how to spell it, I’ve just never been able to type it and get it correct.

Candyflip · 19/06/2018 01:43

I before e is absolute bollocks, there are more words that are exceptions. Does no one watch QI?

anotherpersona · 19/06/2018 09:33

Stationery. Have to remember it has 'e' for envelope.

LapsedHumanist · 19/06/2018 09:48

Umbrelala was a favourite when I was a kid.

Tallyhooo · 19/06/2018 10:39

Effect/Affect....never know which one to use!!

AbsolutelyBeginning · 19/06/2018 10:51

@Tallyhooo

This may help you. It explains the difference and uses the "Raven trick" to help you remember in future.
