To ask about face powder??

DitheringBlidiot · 16/06/2018 22:59

I don’t wear it, because even though my skin is a little bit oily as soon as I put powder on it makes my skin look dry and horrible. What powder do people wear that doesn’t make their skin look like crap?

I have this issue, the powder just goes patchy I look like I'm shedding, I tried bare minerals and found it ace, it's a bit pricey though but does last, you just apply in layers it looks natural and I don't look like a lizard which is always a bonus!

Birdsgottafly · 16/06/2018 23:15

I'm 50 and have dry skin. I also use Bare Minerals.

I've used my DD's, from the Bod Shop and it stayed OK all day.

Any of the Shops/Counters will put it on you and you can see how it goes, first.

Do you feel that you want to use powder?

Birdsgottafly · 16/06/2018 23:16

Also, when my youngest DD (18) was having that, she was told to use face masks and a proper cleansing/exfoliating routine to get her skin in really good condition, which stopped it.

Pancakeflipper · 16/06/2018 23:17

I use a Nars one. It's like a white powder in the pot.

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 16/06/2018 23:17

The two I've liked are Laura Mercier translucent setting powder or the nars setting powder

Brieonabagel · 16/06/2018 23:18

Are you wearing it alone or on top of foundation?

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 16/06/2018 23:19

For people who find powder makes them patchy, make sure your skin is fully exfoliated and moisturised first.

Lymphy · 16/06/2018 23:19

Yes to cleansing as well , Liz Earle cleanse and polish is fabulous for me, I use it daily since starting it I've had loads of compliments on my skin

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 16/06/2018 23:21

I had that issue and switched to an oil cleanser and acid toners and found my skin could tolerate powders a lot better.

I like Laura Mercier translucent powder.

When my skin struggled I used Nars Sheer Glow with a Bare Minerals powder foundation as a setting powder.

violetbunny · 16/06/2018 23:22

What are you using and how are you applying it? I use the Laura Mercier loose translucent powder (Charlotte Tilbury compact powder for touch ups). I always use a "press and roll" technique to apply, like the one outlined in this video: m.youtube.com/watch?v=-9lyg9DNfsY

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/06/2018 23:29

I have dry skin and my Holy Grail of face powder is the loose ELF colourless HD powder and a fan brush for the very lightest touch. It's streets ahead of anything else I've tried.

AllyMcBeagle · 16/06/2018 23:35

The Charlotte Tilbury one is great. It's very finely milled so should be pretty much invisible.

CatsRule · 16/06/2018 23:55

I use elf compact powder and it's one of the best I've tried. My skin which is combination doesn't feel dry not is it shiny for most of the day, a little towards the end but I've had that and worse from every makeup I've used.

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2018 00:02

I use a combination of a Lily Lolo mineral foundation and their loose powder with a kabuki brush. Buff till it looks like your skin, but better.

Is cheaper than Bare Minerals and much kinder on my skin, but I have to admit BM colour range is better if you can tolerate it.

user1495490253 · 17/06/2018 00:10

Use a translucent loose setting powder not a pressed powder. Sunday Riley is good.

imnotadragon · 17/06/2018 00:11

I use RCMA no colour powder it's amazing it's around £12 from beauty bay or beautylish

ShadowKitty · 17/06/2018 00:11

Have you tried a foundation/powder? It will mattify oily bits but isn't as dry as a powder. I use this body shop one and it's a really nice finish.

Sparklesocks · 17/06/2018 00:13

I’m partial to this one but it is quite expensive - so maybe if you’re keen try get a sample to test it out before taking the plunge.

It does last ages though.

Usually hourglass ethereal light. Or a silicone based powder really works, like NYX HD

daisyboooo · 17/06/2018 00:15

Oil blotting sheets for the face are fab! You just press the sheet down & all of the oil is absorbed in the sheet. You can buy them from eBay, boots, Superdrug etc. I love them.

Skarossinkplunger · 17/06/2018 00:40

Another RCMA user here. It’s amazing.

Skarossinkplunger · 17/06/2018 00:43

And my sister who has oily skin swears by Make Up Revolution Oil Pro Fox Setting Spray.

TigerDroveAgain · 17/06/2018 00:45

Frankly I just rub in the tinted huile prodigiuose and at 56 it looks pretty ok

CherryBerryChapstick · 17/06/2018 01:17

I use the Face Atelier Loose Powder In Translucent- silicone base & SPF free. I use a damp Beauty Blender to apply powder, in a stippling motion. This puts a very sheer layer over so it doesn’t look dry or flakey. I also spritz Dermalogica Hydramist over afterwards to give a lovely finish & get rid of excess powder.

I get all from here
