To ask about face powder??

I don’t wear it, because even though my skin is a little bit oily as soon as I put powder on it makes my skin look dry and horrible. What powder do people wear that doesn’t make their skin look like crap?

Charlotte Tilbury for everyday and Laura Mercier translucent loose powder to "set" more heavier for a night out/occasion where it needs to last longer!

kmc1111 · 17/06/2018 04:11

It’s mostly about skincare, but in the meantime a finishing spray like Fix+ really helps with powder problems.

ShottaSheriff · 17/06/2018 04:37

I use the Clinique anti-blemish powder compact for every day and the Laura Mercier translucent powder for evening make up. Both are excellent.

Completely agree with PP that for any make up to look good, skin needs to be exfoliated and moisturised well before application.

If I don’t want to wear much make up, then I will use a CC cream and a touch of powder to even out my face. Also, blusher goes on so much better over powder than without it.

KC225 · 17/06/2018 04:37

I use foundation and then shake a little baby talc powder onto the back of my hand, I apply this with a round cotton wool pad. I am not seeking colour from my 'powder' and find make up powders too dark and too heavy. I just want to set my foundation.

I invested in the bare minerals and although I liked the look of it I wanted to scratch my skin off. I tried it a few times with the same effect - it caused major irritation. Went straight back to the travel size baby powder.

flippyfloppyflower · 17/06/2018 05:04

I use Palladio face powder and cannot recommend it enough. I have very sensitive skin. This is ideal and is not too expensive although I do have it buy it through the post as I cannot find any local stockists.

I use Ben nye powder to set my ridiculously oily face. Best I've found so far.

FindoGask · 17/06/2018 06:13

I'd never wear powder.

I'm definitely of less-is-more school, especially now I'm in my 40s. Even CC cream feels too much. Matte red lipstick and some mascara is pretty much all I wear most days.

eggsandchips · 17/06/2018 06:31

Have ordered Palladio- currently use Mac blotting powder but only on my nose as I have the same problem others do!

catinboots9 · 17/06/2018 06:37

Is anyone still using Corn Silk? A couple of years ago everyone in here was raving about the loose power.

I had worn it as a teen when I had bad acne, but couldn't get hold of it last year as Boots discontinued it

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 17/06/2018 06:48

I remember Corn Silk!! I use Smashbox grindy powder - expensive at £32 but it lasts about a year!!

BlueBellChristmas · 17/06/2018 06:57

I have dry skin but its 10 times better than it was using glycolic acid. I get it from Superdrug. Not a flake in sight and my make up sits all day.

BlueBellChristmas · 17/06/2018 06:59

Oh and i cant use mineral make up. My eczema flares with it.

OrcinusOrca · 17/06/2018 07:45

I think it's really easy to apply too much. My skin is prone to being dry and I have eczema, though not usually on my face but I think it contributes to default dryness in places but the usual oily t-zone. I do one dab for my whole face and neck and I usually start on my neck so barely anything is on the brush by the time I do my face. It's more to 'set' as opposed to to take shine off for me.

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 17/06/2018 07:48

Another recommendation for Laura mercier translucsent powder. I use my finger for under the eyes and nose then press it in lightly with a big fluffy brush then dust off any excess. Give the brush I good tap first before applying.

makingmyway10 · 17/06/2018 07:54

My make-up is Clarins and Clinique however I love the Liz Earle face powder. It is pressed powder but I apply it with a brush and it works for me, although my skin is not dry. Clinique loose face powder is good as is Mac finishing powder.

deptfordgirl · 17/06/2018 07:57

I use translucent ones. I was using the Laura Mercier one but superdrug MUA do a really similar one for a lot less.

Babybearsporij · 17/06/2018 08:04

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! I use CC cream to even out my skin, then JML Mineral Magic on top. Has never looked dry and the mineral magic is a kind of powder foundation that looks really natural. I've never come across anything quite like it. It's quite literally magic.

I've found that a good setting spray gets rid of any powder problems like PP. I use MAC prep + prime + fix+ and it seems to have magical qualities that put any problems right. I love the stuff.

DitheringBlidiot · 17/06/2018 23:30

Thank you SO SO MUCH for your comments. I think I am going to take the plunge and buy the laura mercier powder. My skin care routine is exfoliating about one/two (tops) times a week with superdrug vitamin e facial scrub, the rest of the time i use an oil based cleanser and then a cream cleanser from the body shop.

I don’t wear much make up to work - a body shop concealer, powder (my nemesis) and then a little blush and some mascara.

I’m not looking for any colour from the powder, just a small amount of coverage.

My issue is that when I was younger I had very oily skin. I am just about to turn 30 and I have some very dry patches s

I’d look at some acid toning too OP.
Most brands do one now.

Puffycat · 18/06/2018 00:13

Clinique

kamilahbobo · 18/06/2018 00:20

Best to use so called setting powder. It works great on any skin dry to oily and can be used on bare skin which is amazing. It will give your skin healthy finish and cover any imperfections at no cost of patchiness or any other troubles. I recommend RCMA No Colour Powder like Translucent or Banana Powder from BenNye or Morphy. Make sure you buy the real one from proper online makeup retailers.

violetbunny · 18/06/2018 11:04

OP, if you're looking for a small amount of coverage then I wouldn't recommend the Laura Mercier powder as it's a translucent powder. It's better for setting foundation and doesn't really provide coverage as it's translucent.

You might be better off with a light dusting of powder foundation or mineral foundation (just make sure you moisturise well and have a decent brush to buff it in well - that's the trick to ensure it doesn't sit on the skin or look cakey). MAC or Bareminerals are popular options.

eggcellent · 18/06/2018 11:44

If I'm not wearing foundation, I use the NYX blotting sheets. They're really good!

peachgreen · 18/06/2018 11:46

Laura Mercier's Candleglow. It's really subtle and just sets my make-up as well as giving me a little "glow". I love it.
