My mum and dad are away and I have this rash on my tummy after having a copper coil fitted about 5/6 hours ago.
I'm really really worried I don't know what the hell it is.
I've tried to google but can't find anything!!!

I have tummy ache like really really bad period pains and bleeding, and the pains much much worse on the right side. It really hurt when she put it in too. The pains not unbearable I'd say like a 4 or 5 out of 10 and I think I have quite a good pain threshold.

It's not itchy or bumpy!

I feel ridiculous calling 111, does anyone know what it could be? Is it nothing? What's sepsis? Does that give you a rash? Because that's on my leaflet, I don't think I have a high temp. Omg am I ok😭😭😭😭
My mum usually just knows this stuff!

I don't know but commenting to bump your thread

Karigan198 · 14/06/2018 23:19

Are you in the uk? If so it’s phone the nhs helpline and they can talk you through if it’s something to worry about. It’s quite possibly a reaction to the coil but I’m no expert and they are.

Thehop · 14/06/2018 23:21

Ring 111 they really won’t mind

ImaginationOrLogic · 14/06/2018 23:21

Are you allergic to latex? It sort of looks like a hand print (ish), did the nurse put her hand on your tummy?

I don't know what this could be but am in no way medical! Hope you're not in too much pain OP, I have terrible pains after having a coil fitted (3 times so far), it's honestly like early labour for me. Sorry it's hurting you too, hopefully someone with more medical knowledge will be along soon x

Haggisfish · 14/06/2018 23:22

Ah poor you. Honestly how easy would it be for you to go to nearest a and e? Have your parents left an emergency contact or do you know one of their friends you could call?

TheMouseTrap · 14/06/2018 23:23

Call 111 for advice, in the meantime take an antihistamine if you've got some.

GooodMythicalMorning · 14/06/2018 23:23
  1. Call now. Dont let it get worse sweet.
Misshatter · 14/06/2018 23:23

Have you had a hot water bottle on your stomach to ease the pain?

soupforbrains · 14/06/2018 23:24

Ok so the period pains, cramps and bleeding are relatively normal after having the coil fitted. I was astonished at how painful the cramping was after getting mine put in. Although my bleeding. Was light.

Do you mind me asking if when the coil was fitted you had any other procedure at the same time? Often they 'piggy-back' putting the coil in at the same time as other procedures.

I strongly suggest you give nhs direct a call. They will be able to give you te best possible advice and hopefully give you peace of mind.

In the meantime have you tried rolling a glass over the rash (so you can still see the skin which is pressed under the glass)? It's always good to do that check with any blotchy sort of rash.

SnowGoArea · 14/06/2018 23:25

Are you near a walk in clinic? Definitely ring 111, exactly the sort of thing they're for so no need to feel silly. Hopefilly it will turn out to be nothing.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 14/06/2018 23:25

Looks like and allergic reaction, like another poster said. It does look like a glove print!

Ohyesiam · 14/06/2018 23:26

Op I think you should call nhs direct, and I don’t think you should be alone, is there a friend you could call to come over?

PineapplePrincess · 14/06/2018 23:27

Have you had a hot water bottle on your stomach to ease the pain?

That’s what I was thinking....

bionicnemonic · 14/06/2018 23:29

Copper allergy?
Speak to 111. It’s what they’re there for. You’re important. Look after you

Fightthebear · 14/06/2018 23:29

Sepsis doesn’t give you a rash. But I’d call 111 for that. If it’s silly they’ll let you know.

ObiJuanKenobi · 14/06/2018 23:30

Another vote for 111

Fluffyears · 14/06/2018 23:34

Call111 it needs to be checked.

girlwitharash · 14/06/2018 23:36

Ok going to call 111. Didn't want to seem silly if there was a simple answer!

I had a hot water bottle at about 8pm ish, heat rash maybe? I did have it in a cover over my clothes though and not for ages and ages. Seems to have only just appeared too.

No nothing else was done just the coil being put in and no not allergic to latex.

I will call! Thank you!

@girlwitharash also whereabouts in the U.K. are you? Just te county will do.

I live in Hampshire for example and we have an additional out of hours service as well as 111 which could be helpful but obviously people won't know to point you in those sorts of directions if we don't know where you are.

P.s. I'm hoping that the reason you're quiet is because you're on the phone with 111. x

soupforbrains · 14/06/2018 23:38

@girlwitharash X-post!

Do come back and let us know what they say. I'm sure you'll be fine though. Try not to worry too much.

AppleTree0915 · 14/06/2018 23:43

I get that rash when I use a hot water bottle so that’s probably all it is!

blablabla81 · 14/06/2018 23:43

When I had my coil fitted I had terrible cramping afterwards and just felt generally rubbish. So I'd say that's pretty normal. As for the rash I'd call NHS just to be on the safe side and put your mind at rest

Usernameunknown2 · 14/06/2018 23:55

The rash looks like hives or heat rash. The nhs has a rash guide if you can google you can compare.

ditesmoitout · 15/06/2018 00:02

have you been holding a hot water bottle on your tummy to help with the cramps by any chance?
Thats what my skin looks like after using a hot wattle bottle thats a bit too hot for period pain.

NotLeanButMean · 15/06/2018 00:09

Definitely call 111. Sure it'll be fine though. Try not to panic, I always want my mum when I'm poorly too Thanks
