I had Dysons and Henrys for years but have a shark now. Absolutely blows the others out of the water. I have dogs/cats and many children. Amazing.

Butterflykissess · 13/06/2018 11:58

i dream of a cordless dyson! they look really good. findind the hetty too heavy carrying it up and down the stairs.

We've got a Dyson V6 Animal and it's an unreliable piece of crap. Breaks down constantly. When it works, it's good on carpet, but utter shit on laminate flooring.

Adventuritis · 13/06/2018 12:02

My awesome Miele has lasted 15 years and is still good as new! Hate Dysons and Hetty at work is crap!

Racecardriver · 13/06/2018 12:03

No miele is by far the best. We have a cheap one that we got from tesco and it amazing!

numbmum83 · 13/06/2018 12:06

I work in Argos and cordless dysons are so very popular . We prob sell at least one every couple of days in-store if not every day. In 7 months I've seen an upright bought about twice.
Henry is still quite popular ,shark and Gtech also but it's mainly cordless dysons although a few do come back because of the charge problem. Some people seem to think they can get hours out of them . You can't !

My Mum has a Gtech older model and I find that rubbish , it's ok for dust but you can't pick up actual bits nor do the edges .

SluttyButty · 13/06/2018 12:09

Butterfly I got my new one from Dyson themselves on interest free credit. £33 a month which I thought was reasonable for 12 months.

Pollaidh · 13/06/2018 12:11

We have a Miele, it's quite light, works really well, and has been going 8 years now without any problem at all.

We also have a handheld Dyson and that is well worth its horrendous price tag.

Heard less good things about the main dyson vacuum though.

Bujinkhal · 13/06/2018 12:12

Vote for shark here, never had a Miele though.

Medrad · 13/06/2018 12:13

We bought a Dyson Animal and it didn't touch our pet hair. £300 down the drain. Got a Shark instead - it's FANTASTIC.

Fortheloveofscience · 13/06/2018 12:15

My cordless dyson was a Black Friday present to myself last Christmas. Absolutely adore it, would never go back to a corded vacuum and it copes brilliantly with my extremely heavy shedding dog.

ItchyBites · 13/06/2018 12:15

They used to be, but the last model I bought was really disappointing. It wasn't cheap, but the handle and wand etc were made of plastic and really flimsy. The suction was pretty good, but due to the design and weight I found it almost impossible to push on the carpet and manoeuvre around corners/furniture. The wand would pop out of the handle, meaning the handle would bend, and ended up with some stress marks.

I gave in and got a Shark, and I love it. It was cheaper than the Dyson, it is lighter, it has the lift-away function so I can easily do the stairs, and it seems to clean really well. The dust box is quite small, but I don't really mind that. We have two kids and four cats, and it copes magnificently!

StillNoClue · 13/06/2018 12:15

I bought my dyson animal about 8 years ago and it's still fine. We had a large hairy dog for 5 of those years, and it is now battling against a toddler and constant crumbs. Still going fine. Think we paid £300 at the time. I've seen the cordless ones and don't rate those. You get about 20 mins of hoovering, but the suction is great and you don't have to faff with cables. Depends if you have large rooms as to how annoying the battery life is.

We do have to keep the filter clean, I can drag it up and down stairs easily (used to live in a 3 story town house) and it's not been a problem. I can go to wooden floor to carpet easily. The only thing it hated was Lino. It used to try and pull the lino up.

Fobber · 13/06/2018 12:16

Miele all the way, they are brilliant.

Dyson are good but rather overpriced.

I don't get the hype around Henry/Hetty at all, I find them average at best.

Skiiltan · 13/06/2018 12:18

I don't like Dysons. I've owned one and borrowed another and both had very poor suction. I've found cheaper Vax models also to be pretty poor (albeit equivalent to Dysons costing more than twice as much), mainly because hair accumulates in the upper reaches of the air path and blocks flow even when the dust container is still empty. The inlet filters also get caked with dust very quickly and have to be washed and thoroughly dried to make the device usable again.

I haven't tried Mieles or Hoovers. The reviews I've read of Hoovers suggest they're just as bad as Vax.

I'm currently using a very basic stick vacuum while I try to work out whether any branded bagless cleaners actually do the job they're supposed to. The capacity of the dust container is immaterial, since they always get blocked up well before the container is full. The drawback of this device is that it doesn't have a retractable cable. If I'd known there was a cordless one I'd have bought that instead.

isambardo · 13/06/2018 12:19

I love my Dyson v8! It makes life so much easier having cordless and much better suction than my ancient Morphy Richards.

DramaAlpaca · 13/06/2018 12:19

I wouldn't touch a Dyson with a bargepole. Overhyped & overpriced IMO. My DM has a cordless & I think it's rubbish. I much prefer my Miele.

tryingtocatchthewind · 13/06/2018 12:20

Have you tried buying a turbo head for your Hetty. They make the world of difference on a carpet. I was amazed. A lot cheaper than buying something else

CompletelyUnknown · 13/06/2018 12:21

Literally just bought the shark duo clean and LOVE it. It comes with 2 detachable batteries and a charging dock for them so basically it's always good to go. The ability to do carpets and hard floors is brilliant. I went to the shop with he intention of getting a Dyson v10 and walked out with this and I'm not disappointed

WildCherryBlossom · 13/06/2018 12:22

My cordless Dyson is excellent! It's made such a difference. So easy to use and light that the children can do the staircase. I get it out in the kitchen sometimes several times a day (kids + pets = messy floor). I was worried about the battery life but really it's not a problem.

CompletelyUnknown · 13/06/2018 12:22

Oh and it's cordless, has all the attachments and food int he middle too!! My family are fed up hearing about it Grin

SomeKnobend · 13/06/2018 12:24

No. They last five minutes. I have the cordless v8. It was great for about 3 months. Overpriced and unreliable. Wish I'd got a shark.

DuchyDuke · 13/06/2018 12:24

I have a handheld V10 Absolute. Have carpets, wood floors, and tile, and it has now replaced my big vacuum. It is very powerful and my house isn’t huge so I can do it all within the 15 mins battery life.

DuchyDuke · 13/06/2018 12:25

Trick is not to press the button when you aren’t vacuuming. Need to get out of bad habits before using any hand held. My 3 bed detached is done top to bottom everyday with just the V10

Katedotness1963 · 13/06/2018 12:33

Hate Dyson! We've had three, each "improved" on the last. All rubbish, all given away. The last one was the "animal". Useless! Couldn't touch the pet hair. I finally lost my rag with it, went and bought a cheap hoover and the difference was amazing, rugs changed from grey to black again with one use, I couldn't believe what a poor job the Dyson had actually been doing. Considering the amount of money they cost they must be the worst value for money around.
