Ok, might be a bit dull here but I’m cooking spaghetti bolognese and plan to give my DNiece some. Can I put a drop of red wine in it? It’ll be cooked down for about an hour...please be kind, I’m fecking hopeless at this kid thing 😂

I like the notion of a slag casserole 🤣

Notevilstepmother · 12/06/2018 19:27

Im not convinced that the chart is scientific.

YayImALlamaAgain · 12/06/2018 19:29

I literally wanted to ask this same question earlier as I made my spagbol with red wine last night and gave to 10 month old. Oops 🙊

BIWI · 12/06/2018 20:52

The correct pasta for Bolognese is tagliatelle

CheshireChat · 12/06/2018 20:59

All the sources I've seen seemed to have claimed that after 1hr roughly 25% of alcohol remains, I bet it's not quite as simple as that but it's good as a rough guide.

DragonNoodleCake · 12/06/2018 22:56

@Notevilstepmother I'm bloody sure it can't be scientific. How?? Do people generally cook food at lower that 78.37 degrees C? After cooking an hour 25% - really is like to see the scientific method used to create that table.

BlitheringIdiots · 12/06/2018 23:05

I've always put red wine in. And salt. ...... DS seems to be fine !

SusanneLinder · 12/06/2018 23:11

Bolognese does stick to spaghetti. The trick is to drain....NOT rinse.
And the trick is in the name...Spaghetti Bolognese, not Tagaliettle.
Just checked with an Italian friend who owns a restaurant.

SusanneLinder · 12/06/2018 23:12

Sorry tagliatelle

Rollonweekend · 12/06/2018 23:13

Don't forget a splash of Worcester sauce !

FindoGask · 13/06/2018 05:38

"The trick is to drain....NOT rinse. "

Eh? Rinse what? The pasta? Who would do that?

SteveAllenLBC · 13/06/2018 05:49

Yes, but don't put your alcopops in it as well

TaffyW · 02/01/2024 12:35

For those incorrectly stating the alcohol would cook off..... According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), baked or simmered dishes that contain alcohol will retain 40% of the original amount after 15 minutes of cooking, 35% after 30 minutes and 25% after an hour. But there’s no point at which all of the alcohol disappears. Baking or simmering an alcohol-containing dish for 2.5 hours will still leave 5% of the alcohol content behind.

This is also backed up by UK scientific studies.

It is of course, your decision to make x

BIWI · 02/01/2024 13:25

@TaffyW the OP was making her Spag Bol over 5 years ago! I'm sure she's figured out what to do by now.

How on earth did you come across this thread and then try to resurrect it? Did you not see the warning that it's a zombie thread?!

TaffyW · 02/01/2024 14:03

As I said in your other reply, I was researching something on Google and it came up with that thread. So I posted the correct information as I feel it important that people know. Then they can make their own decision.
I don't know anything about 'zombie threads' and I wasn't looking at the date of the post.

ShowOfHands · 02/01/2024 17:50

Lots of people (including me) pointed out that the alcohol doesn't burn off completely five and a half years ago.
