To ask what to do with the live mouse I caught?

Caught him in a humane trap with food.

If I put him at the end of the garden he will just come straight back.

But if I release him on the local common, he will not likely survive.

Leaving aside the obvious question about why you hadn't thought about this before setting the trap, apparently they can travel over a mile to return, so you'll need to release it some distance away - the bottom of the garden would be useless (unless you own a Scottish estate).

Err, that is a very big looking mouse. Maybe I can't quite get the scale. But mouse poo is tiny......

I had mice not long ago but looks like they have moved on after trying to block entrance holes, I can assure you, he won't be the only one

It's a wood mouse rather than a house mouse. I would release it a couple of miles from home.

Keeping it captive would be cruel, though, I think. Never known a wild animal to adjust well to that.
