Beginning to realise how few friends we have and none are both uk passport holders AND fall into one of the categories who can sign. Have drawn a blank at the dentists, doctors surgery and school. His last passport ran out in 2014 and he needs one to enrol at College in September.
Any bright ideas?

Any teacher can sign it - can’t he just ask his form tutor or whichever teacher he gets on best with?

c75kp0r · 11/06/2018 21:13

That was one fun episode, his lovely form teacher did start to a form for him but she didnt have a UK passport, nor did the senco. School office refused. He claims to have asked other teachers...

anyone who has a level 3 qualification , or indeed is an 'upstanding member of the community' can sign.

RandomMess · 11/06/2018 21:15

Why does he need a passport for college?

Beg his primary school?

HuntIdeas · 11/06/2018 21:16

What about his friends parents? After school club leaders? Neighbours?

Glumglowworm · 11/06/2018 21:16

Any of his friends have parents who fall into the categories?

Neighbours?

Glumglowworm · 11/06/2018 21:17

A youth group leader would probably be considered to be “of good standing in the community” if he does scouts or cadets or anything?

Muddlingalongalone · 11/06/2018 21:17

Friends parents?

Selladoor · 11/06/2018 21:18

Anyone can sign pretty much. But if you do it online it doesn't ask for people to validate the photos, AND it's cheaper!

dementedpixie · 11/06/2018 21:18

If he can still be recognised from his old photo then he won't need a countersignatory

xyzandabc · 11/06/2018 21:21

Why does he need a passport to apply for college? If it's just proof of ID would a birth certificate not do, or that in conjunction with a driving license? Even if he doesn't drive, he could get a provisional license cheaper than a passport. Or even those along with the expired passport?

c75kp0r · 11/06/2018 22:31

Yes driving licence is be worth a look as - it seems to be standard requirement for sixth form in London to need valid id www.barnetsouthgate.ac.uk/apply-and-enrol/acceptable-forms-of-identification

Driving licence might be the way forward I think...or online form might be worth a look... thanks for the tip.

Thanks...

birth cert isn't proof of ID though.

what about one of those 18 plus cards?

RandomMess · 11/06/2018 22:39

I'm now trying to check DD's college requirements!

dementedpixie · 11/06/2018 22:41

As i said before, if his appearance hasn't changed considerably then you wouldn't need a countersignatory anyway

OneDayIWillBeOrganised · 11/06/2018 22:43

If he is recognisable from his last passport picture you don't need the photo countersigning.
I will try to attach a pic of the online guidance about this for children's passports.

passport form for ds

They should have an alternative route for those who don’t have passports. They can’t insist you have one. Please speak to them.

If you know any union representatives, they can counter sign, though as others have said, are you sure it needs countersigning?

elephantoverthehill · 11/06/2018 22:47

i have just renewed DS's passport. I could not do it on line as he will now need an adult passport. I had to get the photo signed as he had changed 'so much' apparently according to the Post Office check and send service. However passport renewal is expensive so explore other avenues.

KenDoddsDadsDogIsDead · 11/06/2018 23:00

If he is a child I thonk the cointersignatory criteria applies to someone you know..not him I think. Will look for the link.....

KenDoddsDadsDogIsDead · 11/06/2018 23:02

Puffycat · 11/06/2018 23:05

This has really shocked me! Surely he can get a passport! Even if he doesn’t need it for college he’s got to have a passport surely?

bookmum08 · 11/06/2018 23:09

They should accept his out of date passport or other forms of ID - birth certificate, bank statement, details of child benefit, nhs card. There is no legal requirement for people to have a passport and if he is not 17 he will not have a drivers licence. I cannot believe legally that they could insist on this.

elephantoverthehill · 11/06/2018 23:10

Puffycat not everyone goes abroad every year. Why pay for a passport if it is not going to be used?

Puffycat · 12/06/2018 02:19

Take your point elephantoverthehill , made me stop and think actually, but I still feel, bloody hell, everyone’s got a passport?!
The world is so big and available. I’m not talking about sunning yourself annually in the algarve, but the ability to travel and just go!
I realise that lots of people can’t afford to travel but having a passport is like having a birth certificate!

Monty27 · 12/06/2018 02:23

The old passport would probably suffice.
