Using a tea towel for a month makes it dirty. You don’t say.

AIBU to think there’s probably more groundbreaking discoveries the BBC could report on.

Hmm pointless piece of research showing that if you use a tea towel for a whole month it will be filthy. No shit!
Seriously, who does that?
Next month these scientists will be testing the Pope to see if he’s Catholic.
Perhaps we can crowd source some more topics for them to work on.

I know what you mean, pointless article.

ThePinkOcelot · 10/06/2018 14:11

Who got paid to come up with that gem?!!

KindergartenKop · 10/06/2018 14:12

I saw someone commenting on this on FB and they complained that their uncle used to wash his tea towels with his pants. Is that gross? All my washing goes in together unless it's completely poo encrusted!

WibblyWobblyWho · 10/06/2018 14:12

I thought that too. Ours would be walking to the washing machine by itself after a month!

LilMadAgain · 10/06/2018 14:12

In further news, if it rains in your area and you venture outside Sam's umbrella you may get wet Grin

pigsDOfly · 10/06/2018 14:13

You see quite a few thing like that with research. Things that most people have understood to be a given for years are suddenly declared so after months of research.

Perhaps the researcher live in a different world from the rest of us.

The80sweregreat · 10/06/2018 14:14

It’s amazing what research can find out.
Who’d thought it?

wineoclockthanks · 10/06/2018 14:17

My exact words to DH were ' No shit, Sherlock'

Fengshui · 10/06/2018 14:18

We call it 'another piece of research from the University of Bleeding Obvious'.

Fengshui · 10/06/2018 14:20

'In other news. People who exercise daily are often fitter than those who don't.

FadedRed · 10/06/2018 14:23

I thought I'd base my PhD on on the vexed question of whether ursine species defaecate in forested regions.......
Do you think I should apply for funding from the UBO?

pigsDOfly · 10/06/2018 14:26

Is the pope a catholic?

pigsDOfly · 10/06/2018 14:27

Oh sorry Time just seen you said that in your OP.

Fengshui · 10/06/2018 14:27

Yes faded Yes I do.

:)

wheezing · 10/06/2018 14:28

I saw someone commenting on this on FB and they complained that their uncle used to wash his tea towels with his pants. Is that gross? All my washing goes in together unless it's completely poo encrusted!

I wash everything together too. Unless towels or bedding seems like they need a hotter wash. I also rarely separate colours.

Fengshui · 10/06/2018 14:29

I want someone to report on whether not washing your hair makes it cleaner than washing.

Although to be fair if the sword came down one side or the other definitively it would ruin years of MN threads to come.

RedSkyAtNight · 10/06/2018 14:31

If you only use your tea towel to dry clean dishes, I don't think it's particularly obvious that it will get filthy. The issue is the sitting around damp and using it for other things that cause the issue surely?

woollyheart · 10/06/2018 14:34

Yes, I saw that. It seems daft. It would have been more useful to know how changing them every day compares to keeping them for 3 or 4 days.
Maybe the researcher was a student and thought a month was fairly normal.....

ScreamingValenta · 10/06/2018 14:36

I've noticed a wave of pointless articles on the BBC website recently - also an increase in grammatical errors and poor syntax. I've used their feedback tool, but haven't received any reply.

StealthPolarBear · 10/06/2018 14:38

Yes I thought that was odd. Also the bit about how if you use them to clean the floor they'll be dirtier than if you dont

StealthPolarBear · 10/06/2018 14:39

When your phone is plugged into the carer, flipping the switch on at the wall is statistically more likely to make it charge than if you don't.

Witchend · 10/06/2018 14:39

I thought so too.

Mind you my gran was caught one Christmas wiping the turkey (uncooked) down with the tea towel and then putting it back on the hook for drying. Grin

WeirdAndPissedOff · 10/06/2018 14:39

I've noticed these, too - they seem utterly pointless.
That, and research "proving" that one thing causes a correlating one - eg there was an article saying that it had been proven that Coca Cola caused violence and aggression because teens who drank it were more likely to have been excluded from school or had involvement with the police.

StealthPolarBear · 10/06/2018 14:40

Ahhhh to the turkey story.

Merryoldgoat · 10/06/2018 14:41

My tea towels are mostly decorative - I never dry dishes (unless it’s needed urgently) - it’s a complete waste of time.

My MIL is always complaining that I don’t have enough out.
