To be worried about friend driving in flip flops?

Just that. Friend kindly offered to take my DC out for the afternoon with her DC. I just noticed last minute that she's wearing beach flip flops to drive in. They've gone off and I was left thinking I should've said something, because as far as I'm concerned flip flops are dangerous for driving in and she's got my kid in the car. They're not just popping round the corner either. But wtf could I have said without sounding like a nob?!

Well obviously I don't trust her choice in footwear! She's a safe driver but IMO wearing the flip-flops makes her less safe.

I'm not going to be "directing" her about anything. But fuck me, if the worst case scenario is my child ending up in a car accident then I don't give a shit how it comes over, quite frankly.

Some people (the I've never had a problem brigade) don't realise how dangerous driving in flip flops is. So quite right to it point out, especially when it's your child's life at risk...

Then just stop letting her take your children out. You let them go anyway this time, despite posting for 10 pages how awful it is and how your children might die

I am capable of having a conversation with her. Thanks for your enlightened contributions though.

In case you need it explained more clearly: I felt uncomfortable when I noticed she was in flip flops because I think they can be dangerous for driving in due to my past experience. However they were about to pull away (she got out of the car to put a bag in the boot saying hello and goodbye then got straight back in the car and went to pull away) while I dithered and thought "Should I say something? What can I say without sounding like a nob?" then they were gone. I was left feeling uneasy.

After reading and researching more on this thread and finding out about accidents, fatalities, RAC advice, insurance issues and illegality in other countries I am now convinced about the dangers, whereas before I was uneasy simply because of my own personal experience.

So it wasn't simply a case of: "You let them go anyway this time, despite posting for 10 pages how awful it is and how your children might die."

Ignore the pp. You did exactly what I would have done. You were in a difficult position. You have now done your research and realised that what happened to you was not a one-off so you can speak to your friendn about it. If she doesn't listen then I would not let her drive your children again.

I don’t drive in flip flops but rather barefoot which my dad thinks is really dangerous...

Thanks Natasha.
I wouldn't drive barefoot either but I'm not opening that can of worms Grin.
