About DHs new breakfast habits?

I’m six months pregnant so that could be affecting my judgement.

Over the last month or so DH has started eating some (IMO) really odd things for breakfast, and it’s seriously turning my stomach.

His go to favourite is now a cheese and quorn bacon slice or egg mayonnaise sandwich (sometimes all three ingredients together) He says he’s sick of toast, beans, cereal etc and that in other countries eating different things for breakfast is totally normal. I suppose I can’t really argue with that, but I can’t help being somewhat revolted by it. It doesn’t help matters that I went off quorn soon after falling pregnant and the sight/smell of it still makes me feel queasy,

I was looking forward to having a lie in with him this morning, until he went to the kitchen and came back eating quorn cocktail sausages! I’ve had to get up now cos I can’t stand being near him while he smells of quorn.

AIBU to want a husband who just eats cornflakes like a normal human being? I can’t even eat breakfast in the same room as him because my stomach can’t take it!

It's up to him what he eats, but if he knows it makes you feel queasy at the moment he shouldn't eat in the bedroom , he could've eaten downstairs

PurpleDaisies · 10/06/2018 11:49

I’d eat those things for breakfast. Confused

It’s unfortunate you’re reacting to the quorn smell. It would have been kind if he’d eaten the sausages elsewhere.

Candlelight123 · 10/06/2018 12:24

There's nothing wrong with what he's eating IMO. Not everyone enjoys cornflakes- personally I haven't eaten cereal since I was about 7 years old.

isthismummy · 10/06/2018 12:24

It’s just the total lack of consideration. Then I get told to stop complaining when I object to him scoffing it in front of meAngry

OuchLegoHurts · 10/06/2018 12:26

But he's just eating food that he likes! Can you not be elsewhere if it's upsetting you that much?

isthismummy · 10/06/2018 12:26

Well cornflakes was just an example...

But it STINKS! Then it lingers on his breath afterwardsEnvy (not envy)

I might just have to divorce himGrin

He smells of Qorn? Really?

OuchLegoHurts · 10/06/2018 12:27

Oh sorry I didn't realise he was eating it in the bedroom

Candlelight123 · 10/06/2018 12:27

I mean this in the kindest possible way OP - look at the first line of your thread !! runs away and hides Grin

Candlelight123 · 10/06/2018 12:28

What does quorn smell like? I've honestly never noticed.
If he wants to be considerate maybe he could clean his teeth again after eating it?

isthismummy · 10/06/2018 12:29

I agree totally candlelight, but seriously...why has he waited until now to develop such vile eating habits.

OP posts:
OuchLegoHurts · 10/06/2018 12:30

Is he eating in the bedroom?

Candlelight123 · 10/06/2018 12:31

Lol - my family have all had eggs today, personally I can't stand them, stinky cabbagey smelling things. Maybe I'm too relaxed about it?!

PurpleDaisies · 10/06/2018 12:31

It isn’t vile. You’re just over sensitive to it.

isthismummy · 10/06/2018 12:34

Quorn smells fine when you aren’t pregnant and have a terrible aversion to it candlelightGrin

I used to scoff loads of it before (vegetarian) I don’t know how I haven’t starved to death in this pregnancy!

35 weeks here and having the same issue with my DP and onions, cannot stand the smell. I figure he is handling my weird cravings fairly well so I just ask him to brush his teeth before coming near me. ☺️

TimeToDash · 10/06/2018 12:34

What is s 'normal' breakfast though? I usually have mackerel, poached egg and avocado. Or turkey rashers and scrambled egg. That's normal for me (the kids prefer cereal though). It's nice to have cooked breakfast, just get him to stay in the kitchen with it then open the back door and you can avoid it till it's gone. Pregnancy sense of smell is rough - I hated the smell of lamb!

moita · 10/06/2018 12:36

I couldn't stand certain smells or tastes when pregnant so I do sympathise. Curry was the worst.

bobstersmum · 10/06/2018 12:37

Yabu because he can eat what he likes but tell him quorn isn't even food! Yuk!

KirstenRaymonde · 10/06/2018 12:38

Sounds like quite a nice breakfast to me. I eat rice and miso soup for breakfast sometimes. Just ask him not to eat it near you and brush his teeth afterwards as the smell is what’s bothering you.

Heismyopendoor · 10/06/2018 12:39

In different cultures they will have rice, fish, curry, etc for breakfast.

So that wouldn’t annoy me. But I appreciate you are pregnant and the body isn’t always the same! Don’t think there is much you can do though.

bobstersmum · 10/06/2018 12:40

Op I've just remembered I once made me dh sleep in another room when I was heavily pregnant because he stank of garlic and it just made me absolutely gag and I really thought he was breathing on me on purpose! I realise now I was unreasonable, but hard to see when you are pregnant!

DistanceCall · 10/06/2018 12:41

He can eat whatever he likes. But you should tell him that pregnancy hormones make you extremely sensitive to smells, and that his fry-ups are turning your stomach, so could he please go somewhere else.

(And eating in the bedroom IS pretty disgusting, IMO).
