Charity door chuggers at 10am on a Sunday!

Sunday morning and am enjoying my one lie in of the whole week. Someone starts banging on my front door repeatedly. Presume it's my lodger who has lost his key after a night out so haul myself out of bed, put clothes on, put contact lenses in, go down three flights of stairs hoping to bribe him to bring me a bacon sandwich as an apology.

It's a bloody charity chugger! At 10am! On a Sunday!

Now I'm up I can see that my quiet street is crawling with them. There's a lady with a clipboard who is also making a lot of noise shouting down the road telling them which houses to knock at. Also they've made next doors loud and yappy dogs bark.

Aibu to be irrationally annoyed by them interrupting my nice peaceful Sunday morning?

Angry what charity is it?

Dhalandchips · 10/06/2018 11:00

Definitely NBU! bastards

BearsandHearts · 10/06/2018 11:01

So annoying. It should be banned. I opened the door once to the British Heart Foundation because he had a red coat on and I thought he was the postieAngry

Iceweasel · 10/06/2018 11:03

I don't like them at any time, but I don't think 10am on a Sunday is any more unreasonable than any other time. Maybe get a 'do not knock' sticker?

Ifailed · 10/06/2018 11:05

Agree with Iceweasel, they've already made the decision to be annoying, 10am on a sunday doesn't make much difference.

kaytee87 · 10/06/2018 11:07

10am isn't exactly early is it? Charity chuggers annoy me though so yanbu.

mostdays · 10/06/2018 11:08

I would tell them they had ruined any chance there ever was of me giving any money to the charity in question. Which would be far nicer than some of the responses they would get on my street. I hate the chugging industry even more than the recruitment one.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/06/2018 11:39

Who's to say 10am isn't bloody early?! There's no set time for getting up on the weekend you know. I worked all day yesterday. Like fuck I'm bouncing out of bed at 10 because 'it's not very early'.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/06/2018 11:39

Also, not everyone has to be up for kids, some of us do still have the luxury of a lie in if we so choose!

Jammycustard · 10/06/2018 11:44

YANBU

Starlight345 · 10/06/2018 11:47

I would love a lie in till 10am😃

However I agree annoying anytime

Bananalanacake · 10/06/2018 11:48

But can't you just say. Yes I'd love to set up a direct debit to your charity my sort code is 10 35 67 my account number is (10 random numbers) I mean, how the hell are they to know if you are making it up or not.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 10/06/2018 11:49

We used to get the Jehovahs Witnesses early (by my standards) on a Saturday morning which used to piss me off.

Not everyone is showered, dressed and ready to fend off unwarranted callers at 9/10am on a weekend morning, especially when you're a working mum of small children

victoriaspongecake · 10/06/2018 11:52

Why didn't you just put a dressing gown on instead of getting dressed? Why didn't you put your glasses on instead of putting your contacts in? Then you could have just got back into bed after?

Iceweasel · 10/06/2018 11:53

Those who are saying 10 am is too early, when would be a suitable time? 12-2 pm and it would be nap time for many toddlers, with possibly a parent trying to catch some sleep after a difficult night.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/06/2018 11:59

Let'a just say there is NO time that chuggers would be welcome, but some times would piss me off more than others.

Butterflykissess · 10/06/2018 12:17

i dont think 10am is early but tbh i dont think they should be knocking at any time.

hmmwhatatodo · 10/06/2018 12:18

Annoying but I’m wondering why you had to get dressed and put contact lenses in, how long did that take?!

ToadOfSadness · 10/06/2018 12:30

After being pestered by a charity that I already supported I complained to them about it, never had another one. I do have a sign on the door which might help although am constantly pestered by drive cleaners, tree choppers and house renderers, some of them I recognise now as they are here regularly, but I let it go because I don't think reading is their strong point and they are actually genuine businesses. Chuggers are another matter.

I once, half asleep, told some people to go away, and then realised they were from the Police, doing security checks.

Butterflykissess · 10/06/2018 12:46

maybe she didnt want to answer the door in a dressing gown? me personally i never answer the door in a dressing gown or towel As inwouldnt feel comfortable.

Excitedforxmas · 10/06/2018 12:49

I bought a sign for my door saying don't knock unless you've been invited- bliss!

Kursk · 10/06/2018 12:49

10 on a Sunday is a reasonable time. Any time after 8:00 any day of the week is reasonable.

They are a pain in the ass though.

Frosty66612 · 10/06/2018 12:56

They are a pain in the ass.
I once opened the door to one when I was eating my dinner as I thought it was a delivery for a parcel I was waiting on. He was so manipulative and pushy and got me to sign up to some direct debit for a charity I have no interest in.
I’m now very assertive with them and tell them thanks but I’m not interested as soon as they introduce themselves. If they try and continue being pushy I just shut the door.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/06/2018 13:14

Kursk how do you think you are able to dictate to people what is a reasonable time? How is 8am on a weekend ok, for everybody Confused

Frosty66612 · 10/06/2018 13:41

What about people who work night shifts for example who don’t want to be woken at 10am on a Sunday!
