To think shes going to have to continue the lie her entire life now?

So a friend of mine pretended to be a french on a night out for laughs (i wasnt there), shes actually fluent in french because she spent a few years there as a kid, but shes not french at all.

So she actually ended up getting into this guy and them swapping numbers. She really likes him but apparently there was never really a right time to stop it and be like "ok look, heres my normal voice, and im from croydon and my name isnt celine". So she ends up on a second date, still doing to accent!

Obviously now its ridiculous and the worst part is she genuinely really likes the guy - he seems to really likr her too HOWEVER he also seems to really like the french aspect so...

She never heard from him again.

elQuintoConyo · 10/06/2018 10:29

My first thought was BH 90210 as well Grin

So a but if fun has gone a bit far. Time to come clean.

I met MR Conyo, who is Spanish-Irish-French-German, in Italy. Not once did 'ooh you're so exotically forrin' figure.

The guy sounds like a bit of a dick about the French aspect, but your friend is being a douche by continuing to pretend.

TerfsUp · 10/06/2018 10:29

You need to come clean by the third date, OP.

QueenOfMyWorld · 10/06/2018 10:30

I'd come clean. My friends dh and his best friend pretended they were brothers for the first year of them dating, thought it would be a laugh then had to awkwardly tell her.My friend thankfully saw the funny side

Maelstrop · 10/06/2018 10:31

Ha ha, silly, silly, I did this on a night out clubbing with my mates. Think I was 16.

DGRossetti · 10/06/2018 10:33

Wasn't this a plot line in "Josh" a while back ?

SurfingSally · 10/06/2018 10:34

She needs to do a Ross Gellar and phase it out 😂

Its probably quite common to do this for a laugh

Call me po-faced by I'm not sure I get the joke - if I meet someone for the first time and they tell me they're french/australian/whatever, have the accent and act like they're from that country, I tend to believe them. It's not a big deal, I probably don't care much either way.

If they then say "HA HA ONLY KIDDING I'M NOT REALLY" then is the joke that I believed what someone said about themselves, and therefore...I'm a fool? I

I used to sit next to someone who would do this sort of thing all the time - pointless lies that I had no reason to doubt/care about, which she then would reveal she was "just joking" about. For example:

Her: you doing anything at the weekend?
Me: I'm going to Bognor Regis with some friends.
Her: Bognor Regis? I used to live there when I was younger.
Me: Oh right.
Her: Then we moved because my dad got a new job.
Me: Oh really?
Her: Haha, not not really - god, I was just kidding! Did you believe me??
Me: Um, I guess so
Her: Haha, that's hilarious!

It was very annoying.

Littlechocola · 10/06/2018 10:39

Could she fake a bump on the head and say she’s woken up British?

She needs to say something and he’s going to think she’s slightly bonkers either way. He might even like this quirky girl Wink

lindalee3 · 10/06/2018 10:41

PMSL! Grin

She called herself CELINE too. Ba ha ha! Grin

SandyY2K · 10/06/2018 10:41

It's probably because of the sexy French accent....

She needs to deal up.

CoughLaughFart · 10/06/2018 10:42

A friend of mine wore a wig on a night out for a laugh. She got chatted up by this bloke and he kept complimenting her on her hair. We had a bit of a giggle about it afterwards - but then he asked her out again. So she had to wear the wig again. And again and again 💇‍♀️

In the end they’d been going out for weeks and she had to fess up. They’re married with two kids now. If your friend confesses in time, this could end up as the funny story of how they met.

fannyfelcher · 10/06/2018 10:42

I am totally outing myself here but one of my in laws met a partner on a night out and due to a loud music the new love interest heard....lets say "Helen" instead of "Sue Ellen". They assumed it would just be a one night stand and so let it go rather than explaining it. Except they really got on so met up for a 2nd and 3rd time. Fast forward 15 years and the passport/drivers licence all says the new name and all family were strictly grilled to call them by the new name.......The ILs parents were not happy and the dad got altzheimers and kept demanding to know why everybody was calling them that. It was incredibly cruel to an already confused person. But apparently even now the other half still has no idea Confused

lindalee3 · 10/06/2018 10:43

@sendintheardwolves I have known a few people like that, (still know a couple) who think it's HILARIOUS that you have fallen for their little joke.

Pathetic sad losers.

lindalee3 · 10/06/2018 10:44

Yeah and she could phase it out like Ross Geller.

Oy oy it's RYCHAL! Grin

scramblesontoast · 10/06/2018 10:50

This did make me laugh!! Grin If I was her I would just come clean in a light hearted way. Hopefully they can both laugh about it and use it as a story to tell people how they met! Wink

NataliaOsipova · 10/06/2018 10:53

She didn’t know who The Chuckle Brothers were.

Grin Grin M15 needs people like you, I swear....genius questioning!

AmIthatbloodycold · 10/06/2018 10:57

) She didn’t know who The Chuckle Brothers were.

That made me laugh more than it should

I would have loved to hear her say "to me, to you" in a DVD voice GrinGrin

NotTheFordType · 10/06/2018 11:10
