To ask if there's a suncream that won't make my face break out in spots?

As in the title really.
I know I need to use suncream on my face, but I'm so sick of spending summer looking like a spotty teenager with nasty greasy skin because of suncream.
I'm 37 and I am so done with spots now. I've never got rid of spots completely since being a teenager but it's so much worse when I wear suncream Sad
I've tried so many that claim to be oil free and non greasy but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I have the added complication that I seem to have sensitive eyes so often my eyes are red and streaming within about 10mins of putting the cream on.
Can anyone recommend a cream that might not make me a spotty mess?
Hopeful thanks in advance to anyone who might have a miracle solution...

NIOD’s Survival 30 is great, not greasy at all, doesn’t give me spots whereas other sun creams do, and works well under make up: Deciem

delilahbucket · 10/06/2018 09:09

I like the Piz Buin one. Really lightweight and not at all greasy.

DoJo · 10/06/2018 10:42

Boris watery essence

Literally one of the most upsetting typos I think I've ever seen - pass the brain bleach! :-)

madsiemoomoo · 10/06/2018 12:19

The stuff I have recommended is a powder - it doesn't look greasy, it's just like putting on face powder

LapsedHumanist · 10/06/2018 16:52

The Toujours Soleil one doesn’t look greasy OP. It’s a mist.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 10/06/2018 16:59

The only one I've tried that I haven't had exactly the same reactions to that you have has been this one: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00SM99KVG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8

It's a Japanese one, it's light and non-greasy and I haven't burnt so I suppose it must work!

Iv'e just read another thread on facial sunscreen, the lady explains that the SPF factor given on a product doesn't always, or often, reflect the UVA protection, only the UVB. So she thought she was wearing factor 30 or 50 but contacted the company - it's a regular makeup city facial sunscreen and a brand I think is good and I would have trusted - and they confirmed that for UVA the factor is actually only 8! Apparently this is really common.

I'd suggest reading this everyone and checking that the products you are using do actually protect properly!

I don't burn with my SPF in my foundation, but that's UVB, now I know that I need to check if it has adequate UVA protection too or the number is misleading.

I always figured that because I didn't burn and my skin is relatively young (or at least people guess I am much younger than I am, but that could be a combination of hairstyle, lifestyle, body as well as my face). So I'll be adding a good sunscreen for the best protection.

I recommend boots no7 protect & perfect intense facial sun protection spf30 or spf50.

Biore Watery Essence made me break out. All the way from Japan... still made me break out.

bananafish81 · 10/06/2018 20:20

Another +1 for Biore Watery Essence SPF 50

I also use Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46 for acne prone skin, as recommended by a consultant dermatologist

It's spendy but AMAZING. The Biore does have alcohol in it, the Elta MD is light but gentler

Both great for oily spotty skin

JuliaRobbers · 19/08/2018 20:18

Ive been following this thread for a while and tried the Biore Watery Essence SPF 50. It's made a superb difference so I thought I'd come back and thank all the people who suggested it! Smile

Tiredtomybones · 19/08/2018 20:27

Soltan Once Face 8hr protect spf50+
My skin sounds similar to yours and last year this brought me out in spots, tried it again this year (new packaging so maybe had a revamp) and it's been perfect all summer. I let it soak in for about 30 mins then I put a mattifying BB cream over the top and then make up as normal.

Tiredtomybones · 19/08/2018 20:28

Sorry didn't notice the thread was a couple of months old. Hope you got sorted OP.

loraflora · 19/08/2018 20:56

I have rosacea and very sensitive skin that's prone to breakouts and itching if I use products that don't agree with my skin. I find bioderma photoderm AR works really well for me. Another bioderma one, photoderm max aquafluide teinte was slightly irritating so they are not all as good.

If you search "facial sun lotion" on Amazon there's loads on there and you can have a look through the reviews to pick the best one for your type of skin

justilou1 · 19/08/2018 23:23

I just re-read this and mine auto-corrected biore to biotech. Please ignore. Biore is awesome. (And cheaper than Make P:Rem - and usually easier to get - in Australia anyway.) The Japanese and Korean sunscreens have a MUCH nicer texture and less white cast the man the Aussie ones - they also play better with makeup and contain much more modern (and more stringently clinically tested formulas). Here in Australia, we are very much hampered by the fact that the same company that owns the patents for the major chemicals required to be given an Aussie SPF rating is a company name owned by the same government body. ($igh!)

Sandstormbrewing · 19/08/2018 23:26

My Clinique moisturiser has SPF 25 in it so I don't use suncream on my face. Get a decent face cream with SPF in and you won't go spotty. If money is an issue, only use it during the summer, 1 pot lasts me 6 months.

ReginaBlitzkreig · 19/08/2018 23:50

Good list here.

I use Frezyderm New Velvet Technology Factor 50 which is fantastic. A friend had it recommended to her by the surgeon who removed a melanoma on her face. It is not remotely sticky or heavy and feels very nice on. You can get it via their website: here.

MiniMum97 · 19/08/2018 23:56

I have this problem too. Face and body. I have tried loads of suncreams. The only one I use now is green people - I have pale skin and rosacea (triggered by sunlight) so can confirm it offers excellent protection, is non-greasy and no spots!

madja · 20/08/2018 00:20

Ultrasun here. My DH has the worst reaction to the sun and it's been amazing for him.
