To ask if there's a suncream that won't make my face break out in spots?

Mumofaskinnyone · 09/06/2018 22:04

As in the title really.
I know I need to use suncream on my face, but I'm so sick of spending summer looking like a spotty teenager with nasty greasy skin because of suncream.
I'm 37 and I am so done with spots now. I've never got rid of spots completely since being a teenager but it's so much worse when I wear suncream Sad
I've tried so many that claim to be oil free and non greasy but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I have the added complication that I seem to have sensitive eyes so often my eyes are red and streaming within about 10mins of putting the cream on.
Can anyone recommend a cream that might not make me a spotty mess?
Hopeful thanks in advance to anyone who might have a miracle solution...

Biore watery essence

RumerGodden · 10/06/2018 06:37

Avoid creams with titanium dioxide....while it is inert, if often causes spots in people with sensitive/irritable skin or with small pores, as it is a physical blocker (like zinc) and actually clogs your pores, which can cause spots..

FindoGask · 10/06/2018 06:55

After a recommendation on here I use this

www.marieclaire.com/beauty/makeup/news/a28736/best-asian-sunscreen/

I buy it off Amazon. It's amazing - goes on so light.

FindoGask · 10/06/2018 06:55

(unlike the author of the article though, I think I got it in about two weeks, not four months)

beingsunny · 10/06/2018 07:02

I used to use the Clinique spf 30 oil free which was great, it lasts ages, I also have very oily skin.

Mumofaskinnyone · 10/06/2018 07:20

Thanks all, that's given me a few things I've not tried. It's going to cost as small fortune testing them out though!

Do any of these suggestions also not look greasy on the skin? all the ones I've tried so far make my face look like I'm covered in vaseline even if they are allegedly "non greasy"

Worth looking in TK Maxx for the more expensive creams, I use Ultrasun and bought it there quite cheaply. I also bought Ultrasun on the 20% off M&S offers

FindoGask · 10/06/2018 07:30

Biore just gets absorbed straight in, leaving no obvious residue - I use it under moisturiser.

BarbaraofSevillle · 10/06/2018 07:32

Are you using facial sunscreen? I used to put normal sunscreen on my face and it made me spotty but I switched to facial sunscreen and it was fine.

I got mine from Asda but most supermarket and Boots etc ranges sell a little tube of the facial stuff. Or get a moisturiser with a good SPF rating. The Simple one sounds like a good bet.

Herja · 10/06/2018 07:32

I have never found one. I wear makeup with an spf and a big hat instead. Good luck!

Mol1628 · 10/06/2018 07:34

Aldi face cream with spf in it is brilliant and so cheap. Definitely worth a try.
Normal sun cream on my face gives me spots too.

TheLesserWeevil · 10/06/2018 07:39

I think I've been through every sunscreen on the market and they all give me spots! Biore Watery Essence is pretty good though, extremely light and non greasy, although apparently not recommended for a day on the beach etc. Currently trying two new ones - Effaclar Duo Plus with f30, on the basis that I use the formula without f30 when I have breakouts, and an Avene one also designed for treating spots... hang on, I'll find a link...

queribus · 10/06/2018 07:39

Dermalogica spf50. Fabulous stuff. Non greasy, no spots

Although honestly, not really loving either of them! I'm 43, surely far too old for this problem.

sacrecoeur0712 · 10/06/2018 07:48

Another vote for Biore watery essence. Not greasy at all (hence the name) - I wear it daily under tinted moisturiser.

eurochick · 10/06/2018 07:49

I have the same issue. I am ok with the Olay moisturiser with spf, although it is only spf 15. Separate sunscreens always make me break out, so I tend to only use it when I'm going to be out in strong sun for a long time.

MiniCooperLover · 10/06/2018 07:53

I use the Clinique SPF50. I used to use normal sun cream on my face but would get those nasty cystic spots, really painful so I started using specific facial sun creams. Much better, never any spots now 👍

bbcessex · 10/06/2018 07:55

Good post, OP - I once ended up in hospital in Mauritius due to spots from sun cream getting infected and burning 😱😱

I now take year-round antibiotics, as it’s the heat, not just the sunscreen, that causes immense breakouts.

Sorry to not help - just sharing your pain!

derekthe1adyhamster · 10/06/2018 07:58

Biore is the only one that doesn't break me out

Isleepinahedgefund · 10/06/2018 08:03

You won’t get the advertised spf from a moisturiser unless you apply absolutely loads of it, so please don’t rely on that for your sun protection (unless paired with big hat!).

I have very finicky, sensitive, dry but sometimes oily, always very spot prone skin so I’ve been on quite a search for suitable sunscreens.

The best one I found was Cover FX clear cover but it’s currently not available (reformulating I think).

I’ve been using Benefit Dreamscreen of late, it seems to be only reliably available from Feelunique even though it’s not a discontinued product. It’s amazing - not a spot in sight and I’m three months in. Not greasy at all (leave it to sink in for a while), no funny coloured cast, great makeup base if that’s your thing.

I’ve also just purchased the Body Shop spf50 one, it’s a bit cheaper than the benefit one so hoping it’s as good - have heard good things about it and Bodh Shop skincare is actually really good, I use a few other things from there already.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 10/06/2018 08:07

Paula’s choice - the orange one.

Madonnasmum · 10/06/2018 08:11

I'm exactly the same as you OP but even normal moisturiser breaks me out. I used Ladival last year for the first time and not one spot. I also get prickly heat too but not using this. Love it.

givemesteel · 10/06/2018 08:12

Used to have terrible breakouts and rashes from suncream on my face, but don't get them with this

I've just bought Bioderma one, anti shine, sensitive skin, waterproof. Seems good so far.

BeyondThePage · 10/06/2018 08:54

I have an allergy to sun-cream - even the ones the doctors can prescribe - so I live the shade-hugger life. Wide brimmed hat, long sleeves, big sunglasses.
