Grated cheese

Is this the right order? My problem is that the top layer of lasagne is always hard - so hard that you struggle to cut it with a knife and fork. I don't cook the lasagne first because it says you don't have to... is this where I am going wrong? Or have I got the order wrong?

Don’t think it really matters I do meat sauce, lasagne, cheese sauce and then cheese on top of the final layer.

AgentProvocateur · 09/06/2018 13:48

I would do:

}}}}}}}}}}
Grated cheese
Bechamel sauce
Meat sauce
Lasagna
Bechamel sauce
Meat sauce
Lasagna
Bechamel sauce
Meat sauce

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 09/06/2018 13:49

This is the order I use (from bottom to top)

Meat sauce
Lasagne
Cheese sauce
Lasagna
Meat sauce
Lasagna
Cheese sauce
Cheese

(Mine isn't actually meat cos I am a veggie but maybe you need to be making your sauce wetter to help cook the pasta all the way through?)

4dogs · 09/06/2018 13:49

Sounds right. Maybe you need to cook it for longer at a slightly lower temperature to get the lasagne sheet to cook through properly?

MaMisled · 09/06/2018 13:50

The middle layer of cheese sauce is unnecessary. ....as pointed out to me a few years back by an ultra slim friend!

Layer as you've said, no need to cook lasagne first. Goid covering of sauce over top layer and 40 mins in middle of oven on medium heat will ensure pasta sheet is edible!

MarthasGinYard · 09/06/2018 13:50

Same

Always meat first

BlueberryMarshmallow · 09/06/2018 13:52

I struggled with the pasta coming out chewy so I always run them under the tap before putting them in and it now comes out perfect. I also cover with foil cook for half the time then uncover to stop cheese from over cooking.

Meercat2 · 09/06/2018 13:53

This is what I do from bottom up:

Cheese sauce
Lasagna
Meat sauce
Cheese sauce
Lasagna
Meat sauce
Cheese sauce
Lasagna
Cheese sauce
Grated Mozzarella

I find the cheese sauce and Mozzarella on top stops it being too hard on top

MarthasGinYard · 09/06/2018 13:54

Large dish of boiling water dunk your sheets in for a couple before you layer.

smartiesaretheanswer · 09/06/2018 13:57

Try using the fresh lasagne sheets from the fridge section in the supermarket rather than the dry ones, I found it turns out much better x

WhatCanIDoNowPlease · 09/06/2018 14:00

They're hard because it's not liquidy enough. Either add more cheese sauce or make the tomato layer less thick. Or both.

User0304 · 09/06/2018 14:13

I cover with foil for about 30 minutes then take it off until pasta is cooked though and cheese is bubbly (about 15minutes)

ZaZathecat · 09/06/2018 14:15

Yep cover in foil until last 15 mins. But make sure the foil doesn't get stuck to the top!

GinandGingerBeer · 09/06/2018 14:20

Bottom up I do
Lasagna
Meat
Bechamel
Lasagna
Meat
Bechamel
Then a top layer of mixed mozzarella & cheddar.

Yum. I want lasagne now.
Starting off with a layer of lasagna seems to hold it together.

MsHomeSlice · 09/06/2018 14:22

i dunk the dry pasta sheets and let them soak for a bit in kettle water

then I layer meat, lasagne sheets, sauce, but skimpy amounts of sauce inside the layers saving most of it for the top.

also let it sit for a bit at room temp and the pasta will absorb moisture from the sauces.

If I am super lazy, or just cannot be arsed to make a proper bechamel then as a pp said, meat and pasta layered up, but instead of making the sauce get a tub of mascarpone add grated parmesan and nutmeg and just slather that on top with dobs of mozzarella
Annoyingly this has now become "best ever lasagne Ma!" so I mostly don't even bother with actual sauce anymore. Hmm ingrates

lightcola · 09/06/2018 14:23

I only put cheese sauce on the top.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 09/06/2018 14:27

I do in this order - get in car, drive to M&S, buy lasagne, drive home, put in oven. I've tried everything over the years but mine always turns out crap so I just buy it now.

shakingmyhead1 · 09/06/2018 14:27

i do, from the bottom...
pasta
meat sauce ( make sure it is quite wet)
cheese sauce
pasta
meat sauce
cheese sauce
pasta
meat sauce
cheese sauce
pasta
cheese sauce
grated cheese

i like lots of layers, and i like a wetter sauce so there is enough moisture to cook the pasta in, also much better cooked the day before as the flavours get so much better overnight, (and is also awesome eaten cold for lunch )

itsstillhotinperth · 09/06/2018 14:27

bottom up:
meat sauce
lasagne
meat sauce
bechemel
lasagne
meat sauce
béchamel
lasagne
meat sauce
béchamel
parmesan

top layer of lasagne got meat sauce then béchamel then cheese so cooks through

malmi · 09/06/2018 15:27

Why is everyone doing their lasagnas upside down? OP set the standard for a lasagna diagram, correct way up with rising stream.

4yoniD · 09/06/2018 15:39

I use less bechamel than you lot Blush

{ { { { { {
Parmesan
Bechamel
Lasagne
Meat Sauce
Lasagne
Meat sauce

Confusedbeetle · 09/06/2018 15:42

Whatever the packet says I prefer to partly pre cook the lasagna sheet

FASH84 · 09/06/2018 15:44

If it's hard put more sauce on top make sure it's thickly covered and in the oven long enough for the moisture to cook the pasta through

HushabyeMountainGoat · 09/06/2018 15:46

Order sounds fine. Lower for longer is my vote!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 09/06/2018 15:46

I do

Meat
Pasta
Bechamel
X 3/4 then grated cheese on top.
