Grated cheese
Cheese sauce
Lasagne

Is this the right order? My problem is that the top layer of lasagne is always hard - so hard that you struggle to cut it with a knife and fork. I don't cook the lasagne first because it says you don't have to... is this where I am going wrong? Or have I got the order wrong?

I never put sauce in the middle. Just meat sauce, sheets, meat sauce, sheets. Then at the end pour over all the white/cheese sauce, making sure all the lasagne sheets are covered.

I've never soaked the lasagne sheets and never had a problem.

Always turns out nice.

I used to put white sauce in the middle, but I found it made the whole thing too sloppy.

Cheese sauce in lasagne? Noooo! It should be bechamel.

I do: ragu - lasagne - bechamel - ragu - lasagne - bechamel - ragu - lasagne - bechamel - grated parmesan.

My lasagne is renowned amongst my family for being the best ever - so I should know Wink

I don't put the grated cheese on till it's nearly cooked, then it doesn't go hard, just melty.

I do meat sauce, lasagne, meat sauce, cheese sauce, lasagne, meat sauce, cheese sauce, lasagne, meat sauce, cheese sauce, lasagne, cheese sauce, grated cheese. I don't put in masses of either meat sauce or cheese sauce between the layers, but I do put a good layer of cheese sauce on the top so that it is all covered with no gaps. And I use green lasagne if I can find it ( damn you Sainsburys for not stocking it any more!)

What about the later of custard, lady fingers and jam?

badger2005 · 09/06/2018 19:07

Thank you everyone! Sauces made... about to layer... big moment....

Will stick to current order (dh doesn't want to skip cheese sauce in the internal layers!), but will soak lasagne sheets, be generous with cheese sauce on top, and cover with foil for first 30 minutes... will report back!

That's Rachel's Thanksgiving Trifle @SteppingOnLegos , beef sauteed with peas and onions :o

LemonysSnicket · 09/06/2018 19:42

Meat sauce, lasagne, cheese sauce, cheese ... repeat.

badger2005 · 09/06/2018 22:28

Update:

It was definitely not too hard on the top. So thank you! The meat sauce was too watery, but that is an unrelated problem, and I know how to solve it for the future (I just need to cook the sauce down a bit more).

I think this is a problem that has been solved by mumsnet.

But... couple of questions. Why the upside down lasagnes? And what is this about adding custard?!!
