To feel intimidated by expensive cars whilst driving?

A bit of a generalisation here but I often find BMW, Mercedes, Audi cars etc drive much faster than me...often tailgate me and overtake when I'm on Maxim speed limit.
I feel that a certain kind of go getting person has the money to buy such cars and this is a wflwcted in their driving. This makes no sense I know! I can't help feel intimidated when a beautiful BNW or Mercedes drives behind me. I gave a bimbly Honda jazz!/

While we are at it....it's never those bloody tail gaters who get caught speeding is it?!

Driving too slowly is also a huge nuisance though - people shouldn’t be on the road if they can’t go near the speed limit due to lack of confidence/ability. Particularly on motorways, people blocking up the overtaking lanes is dangerous and inappropriate. As is tailgating, which I too do think is related to BMWs and Audi’s (although not all obviously), but I do also associate Honda jazz cars with elderly people going far too slowly 😂 sorry OP!

some people seem to have a chip on there shoulder about decent cars!!

This is certainly true! My mother has always had fancy cars and men in particular hate to see her in them and turn everything into a competition.

Bloody hell plenty of generalisations here. I drive one of the high end cars and I don't tailgate or drive like a dick. I believe people think Audi drivers are dicks because you notice the sporty cars more than you would if it were some shit car. Believe me most bad drivers I see everyday drive shit cars.

I feel the same way to a certain extent OP, I used to drive an Audi and now that I'm in more of a typical 'mum car' (think Qashqui) I get overtaken/tailgated a lot more by more expensive cars (and I don't doddle, I always go the speed limit). I just tell myself that at least I'm no longer spending absurd amounts of money on something that depreciates by the second.

But of course it is a generalisation, my dad likes his German cars and doesn't drive like an asshole, probably because he isn't one in general everyday life.

I drive a BMW X5. With a 5 month old DD in the back there's no way I'm speeding or tailgating people!

Take that chip off your shoulder

In my neck of the woods ( a poor Nirthern town with high unemployment and usually described as one of the countries most deprived towns with a lot of social issues). a lot of young blokes hire very expensive cars between then such as Ferraris. Now they are a pain in the ass! They tailgating and flash their lights at the car in front and weaving in and out of people on the dual carriage way who are doing the speed limit and cut up both lanes.
They are well known for racing each other from the motorway junction into the town centre, which is a good 7 miles. Bloody frightening and has had on more than one occasion resulted in the death of one or more of the drivers and/or their passengers.
It's intimidating but I just let them get on wth it and get out of their way before I end up another casualty. Bloody hate them though.

It's always idiots in shitty old cars that act like dicks around DP's car, always trying to race him to try and prove that their banger is quicker.

Quite amused reading the thread. I drive one of those cars, (Audi Q7, cash bought if that matters to anyone) and the tech on the car makes it much easier to drive safely than to be a knob. In fact, drive too close to the car in front and I get red symbols flashing on the dash. I generally set adapatable cruise control to speed limit and can be confident I won’t be speeding OR anywhere near the car in front, the car just adjusts itself, easy. I’ve noticed that when DH drives it, he’s far less aggressive on the motorway than in his low tech Skoda, where he wants to keep the same speed on the cruise control and gets frustrated by slower cars pulling out in front of him. The Audi just slows down and keeps the distance until they move back over then speeds back up again.

Crispysausagerolls I have had a different experience with this. When I am turning out of a road into another it's usually men that let me out and women are the worst for not letting you out (I know people don't have to let you out) however I do let people. I have drove lots of cars as my husband is in the trade.
BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Bentley, etc its worst when you are in a Porsche than anything!

BrewDoggy · 10/06/2018 10:03

Agree with cindersrella regarding women drivers. I also find women less likely to be gracious on the road. Not sure if its because of lack of confidence in driving or what. Also more women drivers using their phones than men!

cindersrella · 10/06/2018 12:59

Brew I cannot believe the amount of people I see texting whilst driving!

It's not just young people in the 20's or 30's it's people of all ages.
