To not believe my friend about DDs GCSE's...

My friends daughter sat her first two maths GCSE papers (one last month and one yesterday).
After the first exam, she texted me asking about my daughters maths exam, she's claiming her DD was given an AQA paper when the school they're at only offers edexcel.
She also says her DD was given lots of questions based on topics she hadn't studied for.
Is there any way her DD could've been given an AQA paper by mistake? Surely this would have been noticed?
My DD definitely did an Edexcel paper, not AQA....

I can't help but think she is lying about this. Why would the school order one AQA paper by mistake when the exam boards are completely separate!?
She is now writing a complaint!

I hate threads like this. That is mascarading as a simple question but really just a thread about slagging someone off. You refer to her in the op as your friend. She's clearly not your friend, you sound like you really dislike her! And if she is your friend - i would hate to have any friends like you! Just be honest. She sounds like a nightmare and sadly her behaviour has effected her child. They both sounds like they need help. If you were a friend you would be asking about ways you can help. The reality is, she's a person you know that constantly lies and that pisses you off. Fair enough. Just be honest!

Yes but strongmummy, who knows what she ‘might’ or ‘could’ do? she might do this that or the other, she might grow wings and fly to space, she might invent time travel and go back and kill hitler, who even knows what she might do, op better start a thread slagging her off just in case Hmm

The local paper isn’t up to much if it puts unsubstantiated rumours on the front cover btw

MissVanjie · 10/06/2018 11:51

I am sure schools have plenty of practice at dealing with moaners moaning at them about various things

Your concern is very cute

Strongmummy · 10/06/2018 12:58

Op the school will deal with it like they do the 100s of complaints they get. Enjoy your weekend

At the very least the story could be spread via the local grapevine giving the school a bad name and blaming innocent teachers and invigilators.

MacavityWasFramed · 11/06/2018 10:03

I have also been an invigilator in GCSE exams. In a large school hall, there are usually several exams going on, but each invigilator is (in my case) told exactly where each paper goes. I would certainly notice if a different exam board was the only AQA paper amongst a load of Edexcel papers, and I would then check with the exams officer where that one should go. However, invigilators are not teachers and are not generally paid more than minimum wage, so perhaps others don't do this.

are not generally paid more than minimum wage, so perhaps others don't do this

I would just like to assure any parents on the thread that just because they get paid minimum wage it does not mean that invigilators are any less professional than any other job

I also get paid minimum wage in my other part time job and i do that one competently and professionally as well

I am sure mccavity didnt mean anything by that part but i did wince

Sorry Thanks

I actually sat the wrong paper by mistake and genuinely didn't realise.
It was an alevel and there was only 6 of us doing it, no one noticed until our teacher asked how the paper went and everyone said it was harder than the practices that we realised it was completely wrong. We all failed it

It seems odd that out of a full year group only one person got the wrong paper. Can you double cheque your dd did the correct one? Likewise tell your friend to check her dd did the right one. Could be she just hasn't revised enough?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 11/06/2018 11:17

Mix ups can happen I guess. Not impossible but not likely. Anyway, you have said she has written to the school. They will check and know what’s happened. None of us on here can really speculate, but you say they are both liars so I would have waited to see before questioning anything.

Examseason · 12/06/2018 15:39

I'm an invigilator too, a mix up where only one student in a school got the wrong paper is just about impossible.

How would the school even have got a paper for an exam that they didn't enter a student for?

I do get paid more that NMW and I can say that everyone I work with is extremely professional and takes pride in making sure everything goes smoothly for the students
