I’m naturally quite a lazy person but I’m trying to up my exercise each day as wanting to lose 2 stone and also just be healthier in general.

At the moment I only walk 6k steps (around 3 miles) per day and that’s it really.

I normally run twice a week, while one of my sons is at his hobby, plus walking the dog most days and I walk around a lot at work. Sometimes I manage a run at the weekend.

Oly5 · 07/06/2018 16:34

Walk for 1-2 hours a day

WannaBeWonderWoman · 07/06/2018 16:35

10 hrs + per week.

2/3 hour sessions Mon-Fri made up of walking or cycling to the gym, cardio and resistance training in the gym then swimming 30-40 lengths.

At weekends I might drive to the gym one day and do a brisk enough walk round the block (did take 45 mins now 30!) to get my heart rate up on the other. Or take a day off.

3 months ago, I got breathless just doing a brisk 10 min walk for the school run. The change in my shape (30lbs down while still eating well but most 'clean') and the way I can move now is quite remarkable!

You should definitely see a difference in fitness. What I used to do (before I got a second dog who is a bit of a plodder Grin) was do my walk as fast as possible, really noticed I got quicker with time using a tracking app.
Can also increase distance if you have time any day.

I lost 2 stone a few years ago with healthy eating and upping my walking. Are you able to walk in the countryside? Because the challenge of uneven tracks is more demanding and more of a workout (plus its a lovely way to exercise).

Peanutbuttercups21 · 07/06/2018 16:37

1 hr dog walk a day

Plus an hour cardio 5 or 6x week

Only possible now that I work part time

When DH and I had full time jobs we dud maybe an hour's exercise a week!

Life's just so busy

BendydickCuminsnatch · 07/06/2018 16:39

I’m trying to work out 5x a week but always fall short! No excuse really as I have the opportunity. I have to exercise in the mornings though otherwise it doesn’t happen! DSs can go to Creche or have screentime if home workout. I just need to do it!
All I’ve done this week is 3x sloooow 5k runs or crosstrainers.

MrsPMT · 07/06/2018 16:39

Sorry just noticed you did say woods, a proper walk of 3 miles daily is a decent walk IMO and just increase it gradually if you have time, or up the pace.

Frosty66612 · 07/06/2018 16:39

@mrsPMT the park I go to is very hilly so I go up and down all the hills briskly. I have the Peaks nearby but I don’t drive. Might see if my OH wants to start walking there with me each week.

An hour 5 days a week, mainly weights and hiit plus have an active job. Had to cut back from 7 days a week as my knees didn't like it! The joys of ageing.

noeffingidea · 07/06/2018 16:41

I hour swim ×5
I walk about 5 miles a day, may be more. This is only during term time as I have to care for my daughter during the holidays. I try to fit some stuff indoors then such as squats and crunches, stepping, maybe an exercise DVD or a routine from youtube.

Dani240 · 07/06/2018 16:42

I run 3-5 times a week. For some posters asking where to find the time, I go at 6am and get home by 7am most of the time (try to do a longer run at the weekend). If the children wake up while I'm out my DH looks after them. If they wake up before I go I usually take them and run after they're in bed or the next day. I'm lucky to have a supportive partner but it still isn't easy.

arethereanyleftatall · 07/06/2018 16:45

Every day, at least one thing, I love it. Swimming, yoga, hockey, running, cycling.
Plus walk at least 10,000 steps a day minimum.

BeginningToWobble · 07/06/2018 16:45

I work part time, so try to do an hour of something on Wednesdays and both days at the weekends. Doesn't always work, this week I had a doctor's appointment so had to skip the exercise.

WickedGoodDoge · 07/06/2018 16:49

I cycle 18k 3 times a week and do a tone class and circuits class at the gym as well. Sometimes I do a bit more, but that’s the usual. If I do that amount of exercise, I can eat as much as I want and I love to eat! If I don’t, I rapidly gain weight so I exercise. Grin

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 16:50

I walk an average of about 9,000 steps a day according to my iPhone. I feel like that’s quite a lot, though I know it’s under what’s recommended. I also do yoga at least once a week, sometimes twice. I don’t feel like I have time to do anymore tbh, though I do have a non sporty hobby so I suppose I technically could replace that with more exercise (not gonna happen though!)

WickedGoodDoge · 07/06/2018 16:51

Oh and I walk the dog for around an hour most days as well, but that’s at a very gentle pace so I don’t really count it as exercise (as in, if that’s all I’m doing and eat what I want, I rapidly gain weight).

goldangel · 07/06/2018 16:52

I do 3 x HIIT sessions a week sometimes a 90 min yoga class if I can, I also average 18k steps a day!

I WFH part time so have flexibility, couldn't do this when I worked in an office.

Babymamaroon · 07/06/2018 16:53

I run about 30 miles a week.

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 16:58

I think you have to be pretty dedicated to do exercise every day or nearly every day if you have a family and a full time job. In my experience the majority of people in those circumstances are limited to one or two jogs/classes at the weekend, if that (though respect to those who manage it in the early am before kids get up, you’re better women than me!!)

Jeezoh · 07/06/2018 16:59

I’ve just started couch to 5k for the millionth time as running fits in best with other commitments. And aim to swim once a week.

mistermagpie · 07/06/2018 17:01

I run 3-4 times a week and so does my DH so we have to sacrifice time together and eat separately from our two kids. It's a bit hectic but I'd rather be fit than be on top of the housework every day, so that's been our choice.

Oblomov18 · 07/06/2018 17:03

Nothing at all. No classes, no running, no exercising, nothing. Guess that's bad!

GhostsToMonsoon · 07/06/2018 17:04

Swimming for around 50 minutes once a week, twice if I have time, and sometimes cycling to the pool.
Cycling to work (about 5 miles round trip) twice a week.
Walking to and from school but that's not very far.
Occasional walk by myself if I have time in the week (around 2 hours) and gardening.
That's about it. Family walks or bike rides sometimes, but they aren't usually too strenuous.

4yearsnosleep · 07/06/2018 17:07

I do Jillian Michaels workouts, most are 25-30 mins long, I occasionally do the longer 50 min ones too. I have a lot of her DVDs and also use her app. I used to run 30 miles a week and was never as slim & toned as I was doing Jillian regularly. Highly recommend. I wasn't able to exercise for a while due to medical issues but I'm back doing modified work outs now and live how effective they are.

Bathtimebliss · 07/06/2018 17:15

I hadn’t excercised for years and due to a bereavement at the beginning of the year I piled on a few extra pounds ..
I e started doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred at home ... only takes about 28 minute from start to finish so easy to fit in and cost £10 on amazon instead of gym fees ..

It is tough at first but it’s unbelievable the difference it makes and is an easy start at exercising
