To have freaked out yesterday at finding a grey hair?

I'll be 29 next month. Honestly there was a tear in my eye when I found it. Dramatic much?

How old were you when you found your first? What do I do with it?? Is it true if I pull it I'll get 10 more!?

I've never felt older than I do now.

About 20 when I had my first baby. I have loads now she is 16 and she has given me most of them.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 07/06/2018 09:36

Wait til you get your first grey pube Grin

TheHulksPurplePanties · 07/06/2018 09:39

I was 16. I've now got a mix of light brown and pure white hair. I get compliments all the time, love it. Grin

I'm surprised at how many people got grey hair "young". Genuinely thought it was something I wouldn't have to think about until I was 50 or so. But then, I don't look for/notice/care about grey hair on anyone so that'll be why.

Glad to hear life does indeed go on though. I was starting to panic!

I had my first grey hair at 18, but it was really only the odd hair here and there.
I'm almost 40 now and still only have a few grey ones, but they only show when my colour grows out.

crispysausagerolls · 07/06/2018 09:53

I was 25 when I got my first (same time as I got my puppy). No idea if it’s pregnancy related but now I am pregnant about 10 more have sprung up. I have a mini freak out and pull them out, but this thread has reassured me that I’m not alone! Thankfully they are mostly at my temples so not too visible.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 07/06/2018 09:56

Yes. I was 20ish when I found my first head hair (I've had one in my eyebrow since 15). I've got more than a sprinkling of 'Sparkly Bits' (dc1's name for greys) now at 29. My Dad was fully grey by 40 & my mum by 50, so I expected it to start happening young.

ShowOfHands · 07/06/2018 09:56

I'm v grey at 37, started at 23. Sometimes I dye it, sometimes I don't. DH was grey at 17.

I don't give a fig about it. It's just hair.

ShowOfHands · 07/06/2018 09:56

My 63yo mother has no grey hair.

iwanttorunawayagain · 07/06/2018 09:57

About 6 greys, nearly 47, I take after my df who didn't start going grey til his late forties.

I plan to wait and see how rapidly I go grey before I decide about dying /highlighting

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 07/06/2018 09:57

The odd one at about 20. Not noticeable until about 34, and only then when I dyed it for a change and realised I had dodgy looking grey roots.

1stTimeMama · 07/06/2018 09:58

I was in my early 20's, as was my Mum. I stopped dying my hair in 2016 and have some very fetching Rogue from X-Men streaks going on now!

tabbycatbythesea · 07/06/2018 09:58

I was born with a grey patch!

user7469322 · 07/06/2018 10:00

Around 22/23 I think. It’ll probably be completely white by the time I’m 42 and I’m 37 now.

hungryhippie · 07/06/2018 10:00

I noticed quite a few, mainly at my temples last year when my colour was growing out. I went with it and chopped off all the colour. Im just going to keep it natural as I cant be arsed with frequent dyeing to cover grey. Im 38.

justilou1 · 07/06/2018 11:46

@KittyVonCatsworth - I'm blonde and thought it would never happen. Unfortunately it's not alone.

borlottibeans · 07/06/2018 11:50

I was mid 20s. Apparently it's a thing with women on my dad's side of the family - they all dye their hair! I'm now early 30s and have a few at the front of my head and a big grey streak at the back where I don't have to look at it.

ILoveMyDressingGown · 07/06/2018 11:52

I'm 38 and my hair is still brown but has noticeable grey streaks along my parting. It's been going that way for at least 10 years. I don't do anything about it though because a) I can't be arsed and b) I like grey hair!

Ekphrasis · 07/06/2018 11:55

I'm bravely going naturally grey after 15 years of lush henna. It's tough as everyone dyes their hair round here but I'm braving it out. I appear to have a slight streak so far.

Silver vixen here I come!

I've decided the key is good eyebrows and some make up to help it look deliberate ...!! Looking forward to trying some colourful streaks too.

Ekphrasis · 07/06/2018 11:56

I'm 41. Spotted greys at 23 maybe?

gingerpickles · 07/06/2018 11:56

I was about 16. Now at 33 I have many, mainly at the front although they are starting to come through everywhere. DH 39 has just the one. DS 4 also has one!

My dad was going grey at 16, he's also going bald. His genes seem to have been spilt between me and my siblings, the two who don't have any grey hairs are rapidly thinning on top. Where as me and my brother with grey hair have lots of thick hair and no signs of any hair loss. Since working that out I've coped much better with greying!

Ekphrasis · 07/06/2018 11:57

Most dye it! I knew someone who was 1/4 grey at age 17.

VickieCherry · 07/06/2018 11:58

I was 17. I'm now 36 and probably 60% grey! I've had a long time to get used to it.

VanGoghsLeftEar · 07/06/2018 12:00

I was 13. going grey early runs in the family. But I had my hair all kinds of colours in my teens to early 30s. Regularly I was in the hair dye aisle of Boots choosing my next hue. I have now grown out the colour and am staying gray in my 40s. It's not the end of the world.

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 07/06/2018 12:02

Around early 20s, dont worry or freak out, I'm looking forward to grown a few streaks out so i can put lighter tones in my hair x
