To ask for help with piles?

Sorry but this may be TMI. I need advice with regards my pile(s). It appears once or twice a year and is so painful. It pops out just south of my bum hole so that it feel continuously pressed on and a sneeze or cough is excruciating! I use haemorrhoid cream (and try to push it back inside) but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Can someone tell me what they are, why they recur, what I can do (if anything) to prevent them and is there anything I can do to ease the pain please! 🙏 or anyway to get rid of the little fecker(s) once they appear?

I might need to add it/they seem to get worse at night. The pain wakes me up. The morning is quite bad. I thought I would turn to wise MN before embarrassing myself at my doctors for something that is untreatable and may go away on its own?

Suppositories on prescription.

Petitprince · 05/06/2018 22:34

Does that make them go away?

Teenagemaw · 05/06/2018 22:34

Get prescription stuff the otc stuff isnt string enough when its a big one. I perservered for 2 weeks with anusol and no change three days of stuff from gp sorted it..
Think its scheriproct or something similar. Good luck.

Teenagemaw · 05/06/2018 22:35

Oh and I just phoned gp and they did me a prescription. I was terrified they would want me in to look at my bum!!!!!

FrankiesKnuckle · 05/06/2018 23:01

Get it removed?

I had what I thought was an internal pile, popped out with every poop for the last 6 years and had to manually push back in.

Finally went to the gp late last year, yes had an internal exam but referred for a flexi sigmoidoscopy. Was told it was an epithelial polyp.
Referred for surgery earlier this year, removed under GA.
Minimal pain and bleeding post op.

The relief!

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 05/06/2018 23:04

I found wrapping an individual ice cube in a sealable bag and wedging it close enough to the pile was the only way to get to sleep when I had them really bad once. I mean, it was also a new found low. But when they hurt they hurt.

welshmist · 05/06/2018 23:05

In the meantime. Now don`t laugh but my gp was told by a patient this aid. Take a frozen brussel sprout wrap it in cling film and pop it into place nestling between your cheeks up against the pile. And yes it does give relief.

Hairyhat · 05/06/2018 23:06

Oh thanks so much everyone for replying. I feel a bit more confident to ring go to my docs now. This one seems to keep popping out every couple of days. I thought it was on the mend two days ago but now it's rearing it's ugly head popping out again with a vengeance and it's so sore. I was hoping someone would say "anti inflammatories work wonders" or drink lots of gin fibre diet or some such ..

Small bag of frozen peas

Cleanermaidcook · 05/06/2018 23:08

Mine driv me mad particularly in hot weather, cool showers, keep very clean and hydrated, preparation H I the only thing that's eased mine. Also resist the urge to itch I you can.

Longdistance · 05/06/2018 23:08

Yy to ice. It’ll shrink the pile a treat. Also, if you have Diclofenac, it seems to reduce the swelling.

Hairyhat · 05/06/2018 23:09

Oh thanks Welshmist And Canlbuff I shall certainly try a wee frozen parcel between my cheeks tonight. I'm so desperate for some relief! MN is brilliant

John4703 · 05/06/2018 23:11

Thanks SpongeBobGrannyPants I will try that next time I am so much agony that I can't sleep. I'd not thought of an ice cube.

Hairyhat · 05/06/2018 23:12

Thanks CMC and Longdistance all good useful things to try. Anything to avoid the doc looking up my bum

Chesntoots · 05/06/2018 23:14

I had mine operated on a few years ago. They were external though. Ouch. That's all I'm going to say.....(but very glad I had it done)

Hairyhat · 05/06/2018 23:15

This is why MN is so good. I'm so embarrassed but already I've had really useful help. Just the advice makes you feel less isolated. Smile

Germoloids Suppositories sorted me out but expect them to take a few days. Don't go to the doctors unless you really have to, as it's so embarrassing when they examine you!

Rachie1973 · 05/06/2018 23:15

You have my sympathy! After my 2nd son was born at nearly 10lb I suffered terribly!

They have kinda relieved, but it was like a bunch of grapes at times! I also had one burst, without realising what it was. I thought I was bleeding to death!! If I get constipated they get worse, so eating well can really make a huge difference. And I second the ice cube and popping them back in with a clean finger too.

Seems to be a family thing though here, my Dad had to have his surgically removed.

madeyemoodysmum · 05/06/2018 23:17

Witch hazel gel. Stings for a min but the relief is immense. Sell it on amazon.

chipiedog · 05/06/2018 23:17

I went to the emergency GP once with piles, not enough long after having a c-section and all my pain relief had just worn off... the tears were just pouring down my face I was in such excruciating pain it was incredible!!

He asked would I like a chaperone while he examined me... I said no I wouldn't care if half of was here just be gentle and elp mehhhh

He gave me tramadol 😃

PS are you sure the pile is an internal one that can be pushed back
In? Mine was external and cannot (I tried... I tried and I tried and I cried and I cried)

MissusGeneHunt · 05/06/2018 23:18

Sounds ghastly but my GP recommended to get a Marigold rubber glove, fill the fingers with water, freeze it and then use one of the frozen fingers between your cheeks on the extruding pile. Felt more than odd, but by god did it work! Went thru rubber gloves like mad, but worth it. Hope you get better soon.

DingDongDenny · 05/06/2018 23:19

I get piles once or twice a year. For me the things that work are if I have had to strain when doing a poo, I put some anusol on afterwards to stop the pile in its tracks and that usually works.

I've also found that if it is a big pile, don't try to push it back in as it can twist it and then the blood clots and its pure agony. Wait until it is empty before trying to push it back to where it's meant to be

SodTheGreenfly · 05/06/2018 23:28

DH had internal ones. Went to Dr. Dr had a look. Referred to consultant within a week. Consultant dealt - local, small procedure. Whingeing ceased.

DiabolicalMess · 05/06/2018 23:31

Oh poor you OP, I can totally relate, I had a massive, excruciatingly painful episode when I was pregnant and I had to wrap an ice lolly and wedge it between my butt cheeks to try and soothe the pain. It's still there but not painful or bleeding now so I've left it. Do speak to GP for something stronger it's not fair on you to suffer.
