Sorry but this may be TMI. I need advice with regards my pile(s). It appears once or twice a year and is so painful. It pops out just south of my bum hole so that it feel continuously pressed on and a sneeze or cough is excruciating! I use haemorrhoid cream (and try to push it back inside) but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Can someone tell me what they are, why they recur, what I can do (if anything) to prevent them and is there anything I can do to ease the pain please! 🙏 or anyway to get rid of the little fecker(s) once they appear?

Oh op I feel for you. Just get to the GP of everything you’re currently trying isn’t working. I tried the anusol (can’t spell) didn’t work, then my GP prescribed an alternative which did.
Piles are horrible especially when they are itchy and you literally want to scratch your bum off 😂🙈

Epsom salt in a warm bath!

Hairyhat · 06/06/2018 08:26

Thanks all. Tried an ice cube last night and it certainly gave some relief!

Scheriproct from the GP. Amazing stuff.

I'm amazed so many of you got referred. I get really bad ones and was told to just keep using the cream! It must depend which part of the country you are in.

DaffoDeffo · 06/06/2018 08:48

yes I have that cream, it is marvellous!

Hello! What they are - essentially, they’re varicose veins but around your anus and not on your legs. What causes them - most likely pregnancy, but also being overweight or chronically constipsted. What cures them - ultimately, surgery. It doesn’t have to be extreme, they can be banded as an outpatient in clinic without needing an anaesthetic. Banding involves firing a tiny rubber band around the vein to constrict it - the piles shrink and fall off over about 10 days. Locally applied creams (anaesthetic/steroid combo like proctosedyl) can give symptomatic relief.

How to stop them coming back - high fibre diet, drink lots of water, consider a psyllium husk supplement like Metamucil to keep your poo soft and easy to pass.

The best thing I ever tried was uniroid ointment prescribed by the gp.

I ended up having mine operated on last year. I went private because after really suffering for 2 years I told my GP I was feeling suicidal from the constant bleeding and pain and she laughed at me.

Thanks for the info Hic. That will help me a lot with understanding them. MN is marvellous.

Omg thanks you guys! I'm in such a much better place now thanks to your advice. The relief is immense. I was close to tears at times and now I'm functioning normally most of the day. Freezing the blighters seems to be most effective. I am using a (sealed) ice cube between my cheeks and replacing when necessary. It's VERY helpful.

I have occasional problems and I did go to gp. He prescribed proctoseydl (sp?) ointment and it works a treat. I have it on repeat now, will only go to gp if it gets worse.

Glad to hear you’re felling better.

I find cheap tissue paper irritate them. A dab of Sudocrem works wonders for me.
