www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/06/trump-russia-scandal-media/

'The other side—the accurate perspective—isn’t that complicated. In 2016, Vladimir Putin’s regime mounted information warfare against the United States, in part to help Trump become president. While this attack was underway, the Trump crew tried to collude covertly with Moscow, sought to set up a secret communications channel with Putin’s office, and repeatedly denied in public that this assault was happening, providing cover to the Russian operation. Trump and his lieutenants aligned themselves with and assisted a foreign adversary, as it was attacking the United States. The evidence is rock-solid: They committed a profound act of betrayal. That is the scandal.'

Trump ""Without Otto [Warmbier] this would never have happened....it was terrible, it was brutal, but a lot of people started focusing on what was going on".

lionheart · 12/06/2018 10:10

Trumpy's having a news conference but I cannot watch.

Lweji · 12/06/2018 10:32

Oh, I've been watching with a 30 min delay or so.

It's the usual stuff.

"Be nice and respectful" to journalists.
"I've been studying nuclear in great detail". No you haven't, you're still spouting largely ignorant stuff.
We'll be doing checks, not sure when and how.
No end to sanctions.
Yada yada over human rights (Colbert's words about the meeting).

Lweji · 12/06/2018 10:34

Speaking of Colbert:

ohmymimi · 12/06/2018 10:40

'Trump on North Korea's economic development: "Think of it from a real estate perspective....". Then asks Time Magazine correspondent: "Am I on the cover again this week?" '

Yamayo · 12/06/2018 10:47

He also shot down a journalist asking about giving Kim and his bloody regime legitimacy.
Literally refused to answer.

Very depressing there is a thread on AIBU wishing the UK could have a Trump because at least 'he gets things done'.

The irony is that his policies will harm the people who directly voted for him and weaken America's power in the world.

But hey, at least things happens and he gets to sign lots of documents live on TV.

ohmymimi · 12/06/2018 10:47

'To me'
' "To me it's a very important event in world history. To be really true to myself, I have to add I really want to get it completed…If you don't get the ball over the goal line, it doesn't mean enough." '
mobile.twitter.com/JChengWSJ/status/1006466334765412352

Yamayo · 12/06/2018 10:49

That real estate comment was surreal.
So was his comments that the 'people of N Korea' would choose their economic future but they might not want all the roads and trains. But that's ok, it's up to them.

Lweji · 12/06/2018 10:54

Did you notice the pens?

ohmymimi · 12/06/2018 10:55

Sneaky, those Canadians, eh!
' "Actually, we were just talking....very friendly....when I got onto the plane, I think that Justin probably doesn't know that Air Force 1 has about 20 televisions, and he's giving a news conference saying he won't be pushed around by the United States".'
mobile.twitter.com/SimonMarksFSN/status/1006459383847325696

ohmymimi · 12/06/2018 11:00

No, Lweji, I tried to concentrate on Kim's body language. Clicky biros?

Lweji · 12/06/2018 11:06

Nice pen for KJU. The usual marker pen for Trump. You could hear the noise it made.

Then they swapped them. It looked ridiculous.

lionheart · 12/06/2018 11:09

Just took a peak at that thread Yamayo.

Had to back away rather quickly.

Lweji · 12/06/2018 11:11

The translator was also interesting. KJU clearly understood English. He probably can speak it better than DJT, having studied in Switzerland, reportedly.

Also, interesting comments by a former body guard to his dad.

And: "He also hated to lose. Winning was very important.”"" Who does this remind you of? Grin

'The fact that I am having a meeting is a major loss for the U.S., say the haters & losers. We have our hostages, testing, research and all missle launches have stoped, and these pundits, who have called me wrong from the beginning, have nothing else they can say! We will be fine!'

ohmymimi · 12/06/2018 11:14

Why the surprise? The spotlight is where he thinks it should always be. He thinks he is king of the world.

'President Trump seems to be feeling very confident, which is why he’s holding first wide-ranging news conference like this in nearly a year and a half. I can’t help but wonder whether he’s going to be very surprised by headlines and critique that he gave up more than he got.'

Now I've got to look, Lweji, Grin

ohmymimi · 12/06/2018 11:26

'Trump has stunned the Korean Peninsula by announcing the stoppage of US-South Korean war games. Seoul's presidential office tells the AP that it's trying to discern the exact meaning and intent of Trump's comments.'

Quantumblue · 12/06/2018 11:33

I think Trump means that the repatriation and death of poor Otto Wambier was the first time North Korea came onto his own radar. Probably still couldn't find it on a map.

Lweji · 12/06/2018 11:37

Probably still couldn't find it on a map.

Oh, there was a comment about Guam. How he thought it was close, when it was threatened. But it is 6 hours away by plane.
And NK wouldn't attack Guam because... planes. "I know planes. They're very expensive."

IIRC, the danger was missiles, right? Hmm

Lweji · 12/06/2018 11:39

And the hair comments...
"You look the same. You have the same hair. You have great hair." (almost ipsis verbis)

Journalist ignores and moves on to question...
