Obviously lighthearted, and just for the record - I used to think things like TOWIE / Love Island / MIC etc were utter drivel and would have been disgusted by them.

However, I have realised that I was always going at them from the wrong angle. Now, I don't love them despite the trashiness, I love them because of the trashiness.

Once I let go of my snobby pants I was able to fully get stuck in and now think they are actually genius television. It is people watching in its absolute glory!

Can you tell I'm ecstatic that Love Island is back?? 😂

There are people who work really hard and train to be actors, but they are being overlooked for a bunch of people who get their tits out for the cameras.
I think this sums it up. It's not acting, but equally it's not ordinary people being themselves. It's just a bunch of attention-seeking people who are willing to degrade themselves to be on tv. The original couple of series of Big Brother showed how people interact when they're thrown together but it's become a situation where they pick those most likely to strip off and have sex just to try and keep the viewing figures up. It's like The Apprentice - that's full of wannabes who see it as the opportunity to get some publicity before moving on to Celebrity BB et al. The candidates aren't chosen for their business ability but for the likelihood of starting catfights and making complete arses of themselves. Their business plans show that.

I used to make reality TV. Utter crap. It's the cheapest form of tv hence its popularity with production companies. Never watch it anymore. Why in God's name would I want to watch other people witter on? And let me tell you, reality tv stars are really fucking irritating people. It wouldn't be watchable if they were nice and reasonable see, but omg what a monster has been created.

Agree. Im really disappointed that the Apprentice has become this. Its so obvious that there are about 2 half decent business plans and a load of old shit shoved in there to bulk the programme out by people who have no idea how to function in real life, never mind run a business. I don't mind genuine 'talent' shows like Bakeoff and Masterchef as there are people who have a genuine skill but the scripted reality shows are crap. Utter inane crap. Id just not watch them and let other people get on with it if they weren't having such a pervasive influence on our culture.

I said that, Nikephoros - thank you. DD3 used to act and knows a lot of kids who went to drama school. I find it so frustrating when you see progammes now fronted by someone who got 'famous' for stripping off on BB or 'winning' some non-real televised competition, when there are people who TRAINED TO DO THE JOB.

But they get some airtime, 'wahn uh be uh PRESENAH' and get to do it because people know who they are. Horrible.

Reality TV sends out the wrong message to teens imo, that's why I don't like it. If you want to be famous then just get drunk or naked on TV and lose all your dignity. Ugh

You know whatelse annoys me I have never watched MIC or Towie but I know who Jamie Laing AND gemma collins are they leak out of their programmes

I worry about the exploitation. Has anyone seen unreal on amazon? I know it’s fiction but I can imagine some of the (less extreme) stuff happens on shows like this.
