Dogs in cars

This was were they being unreasonable.

Just getting ds and shopping into car in tesco. Man parked next to me was lingering. He was early 60s.
Two woman of around the same age get out their car and start walking in my direction towards the shop.

Man walks over and starts shouting about them leaving the dog in the car. The woman says the cars in the shade so it's fine. He continues to have a go at her. She then starts dancing and singing nosey parker.

Now, he wasn't that close to them so although he was shouting it wasn't in their faces.

I'm a bit on the fence. He's right the dog shouldn't be left in the car. I've never once left my dog in the car regardless of the weather. It would be distressing for him and he's an intact pedigree so I'd worry he'd be nicked.
But it made me feel uncomfortable that a man was shouting at a woman and he didn't actually know how long she was going to be, it wasn't really any of his business.

So what do you think. Should he have stepped in to stick up for the dog. Or assumed the woman was not leaving the dog for long and kept out of it.

Just to add, it is a big tesco and she did go on to get a trolly. She also parked in parent and child so the car was in the 'shade'. It was also hot but cloudy today where I was.

The man then took pictures of the dog in the car. So guess he's going to report or publicly shame her.

Regardless of sex /gender /age they were twats to leave a dog in a car imo. Hope he does shame them.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/06/2018 15:46

It’s not ok.

Dogs die in hot cars.

Faez · 05/06/2018 15:48

They're dicks and too many people turn a blind eye/have a "not my business" attitude

Eatmycheese · 05/06/2018 15:49

She’s a fucking idiot
I hope that person does report her, in fact you should!!
It doesn’t take long at all for a dog to overheat and die.

counterpoint · 05/06/2018 15:52

The man was probably emotionally upset by this sign of potential neglect of the dogs left in a car in June.
It should be illegal, full stop.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/06/2018 15:52

Shouting isn't great but had he spoken calmly doesn't look like these women would have listened. It may make them think twice.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/06/2018 15:52

They should not have left the dog in the car. Although was the window open did the dog have access to water.
I also can't help wondering would he have fronted 2 rugby player type blokes.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/06/2018 15:54

It doesn't matter if the window is open or if a dog has water. If it's hot they shouldn't locked in a car.

Luisa27 · 05/06/2018 15:54

I’ve called the police out to a dog left in a hot car. Absolutely shocking

billybagpuss · 05/06/2018 15:58

I certainly wouldn't leave a dog in the car for the length of time to do a trolley shop, but the weather the last couple of days wasn't too bad so I think the man was being U.

Also car technology is improving all the time DH bought a new car at the weekend that we can check the climate of the car remotely from an app.

I still wouldn't leave her in it than any longer to pay for fuel though.

Snausage · 05/06/2018 16:00

What has the fact that she was called out by a man got to do with anything at all? Would you have remained on the fence if she'd left a child in the car and he'd shouted at her?

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 05/06/2018 16:01

Why didn't one woman stay with the dog? People like that shouldn't have a pet.

angryburd · 05/06/2018 16:03

Dogs die in hot cars.

Would it have made a difference if it were another woman confronting them?

Grumpybearblue · 05/06/2018 16:06

It was an oldish car so she didn't have climate control.
I couldn't see if a window was open.

I think the man was right for telling her off but the shouting made me feel he was being out of order. If he was just talking to her then I would have supported him but the shouting made it look like he was the one being a dick.

Depends. How hot was it? How shady was it? How open were the windows? Was there any breeze?

The man might have been absolutely right to point it out, or he might just be a busybody. Hard to tell without more information.

Grumpybearblue · 05/06/2018 16:08

angryburd

Maybe, the fact it was a man shouting at a woman made me feel uncomfortable and made it hard to side with him. But then I don't feel anyone should shout at anyone, use your words not your volume.

I have left my dog in the car, with Windows and sun roof open, to put petrol in.

To go into Tesco? No way!

Did you stay with the dog to make sure it was ok OP?

Grumpybearblue · 05/06/2018 16:11

Well it was cloudy and my car was pretty hot when I got back. Like quick open the window hot.

She was parked next to trees but it wasn't really in the shade. There was no breeze.

But then regardless of how the weather was when she left the dog. It can change pretty quick. One minute it's cold and cloudy the next it's sunny and bright.

Grumpybearblue · 05/06/2018 16:12

No the man stayed he was taking photos I assume to report her.

I couldn't stay as needed to get baby home for lunch.

Depends on the set up. My car is a resting area for my two at dog shows.
The boot is effectively a giant crate, so I can leave the boot open for air, o have fans and cool coats. On really hit days a cover the car in reflectors.
All of which means it can be cooler inside than out.

IslaBoots · 05/06/2018 16:29

Grumpybear. I hope the dog was ok. It's very hot where I am today. I wonder how long they left the poor dog for :( If she took a trolley I wouldn't think she nipped in to get a pint of milk.

babydreamer1 · 05/06/2018 16:34

We can lock our car via the app with the aircon on and do so whilst popping in to the shops quickly, our dog has a comfy bed and water and is perfectly cool. I'd be furious at some interfering busy body shouting at me, but if someone politely asked I'd politely tell them.

Winegumaddict · 05/06/2018 16:36

Terrible behaviour and she should be called out on it. Shouting isn't great but I'd rather someone was shouted at than a dog die through neglect in a hot car. I only leave mine to pal for fuel in the summer. In the winter I might pop into the shop but not do a full trolley shop. I don't know the legalities but on Facebook it keeps being shared that you should break the window if you see a dog locked in a car in the heat.

MissGiddyPants · 05/06/2018 16:37

I leave my dog in the car a lot. Always park in the shade with windows open. If it was cloudy I am sure the dog would be fine.

Bamaluz · 05/06/2018 16:51

Dogs die in hot cars, even in the shade, have you ever sat in a car for any length of time in warm weather? It's like sitting in a greenhouse.
