Or will I be wasting their time?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant. First pregnancy. Had sickness in the beginning but haven't for weeks now. When I first got pregnant I was 5"9 and 74kg, I'm now 70kg and seem to be losing weight. I'm eating loads, appetite is huge, work a desk job and go to gym 3x a week but not enough to lose this weight. I've always done this amount of exercise so no changes there.

Is it normal to be pregnant, eating a shed load, normal amount of exercise, but to have lost 4kg in 18 weeks? 1kg a month (probably slightly more as I have baby weight to account for too) seems an awful lot?

Am I worrying over nothing?

Hopefully the scan will put your mind at rest OP.

JustVent · 04/06/2018 14:24

That’s good.

It might be good to get your thyroid checked as well, if the GP hasn’t already mentioned it.

Louellah · 04/06/2018 20:23

Baby is fine 🙏🏽 had some blood tests and waiting for them to come back. I have an anterior low placenta which isn't good and they want to keep an eye on it. Doc said not to worry too much about weight loss but if it continues, come back! Thanks for everyone's support. Such a relief! Balled my eyes out like a baby an I'm not even a crier!

Just read whole thread, really pleased it's good news for you OP Smile

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/06/2018 20:36

Smile good to read OP.

Cantchooseaname · 04/06/2018 20:42

Having an anterior placenta can make it harder to feel baby move too- as it is a cushion between your stomach wall and baby. This is normal!
Glad all went well.

applesandpears56 · 04/06/2018 20:45

So glad baby is ok Smile

Fruitcorner123 · 04/06/2018 20:56

just rtft so pleased to hear baby is fine. I would second Cantchooseanames comment that the anterior placenta may mean you dont feel baby move as soon so try not to panic about that. (although once you start to feek movements you should always tell midwife if you noticd any change) Are you sure there isnt another midwife you could see if you don't trust this one. In the 3rd trimester you have a lot of appointments and you want to know you are being given appropriate care.

NurseP · 04/06/2018 20:59

I also had a low anterior placenta, they usually just do an extra scan to check it's moved up as your uterus expands. I think I had the scan at about 34 weeks. It does sometimes muffle the movement too. Hope everything turns out well, it's so worrying isn't it? So important to see midwife if you think something is wrong. X

Louellah · 04/06/2018 21:00

Thanks @Fruitcorner123 - I hope it doesn't take too long to feel baby move. It would be so reassuring to know he/she is wriggling around.

No other midwife sadly. It's really frustrating. I don't complain often but the care I'm receiving and sparsity of my notes = not good!

Did anyone else have online notes? Even my due date is wrong on there Sad your midwife is meant to be someone you can call upon but I feel a bit alone here...

Thanks a bunch @NurseP - do you mind me asking when you started to feel movements? It really is worrying and previous miscarriages don't help the anxiety.

Thanks all for your kind words.

LoveProsecco · 04/06/2018 21:05

I had an anterior placenta and from memory I was about 24 weeks before I really felt movement.

Good luck & glad the scan went well today Thanks

Louellah · 04/06/2018 21:08

Thank you @LoveProsecco - fingers crossed I feel something soon!

I had an anterior placenta and didn't feel anything at all till nearly 20 weeks and then only felt movements in certain areas. It definitely has a big cushioning effect. Good luck with your pregnancy, it is a nervous time.

RocketPockets · 04/06/2018 21:13

@Louellah I lost 2st by the time i was 20 weeks but I was very sick the whole way through my pregnancy. I was also a little overweight as well but not massively so. By the time I gave birth I was back to my pre pregnancy weight so I was 11st 4lb when I got pregnant went down to 9st ish around 20 weeks and was 11st 7lb the day I gave birth.
Reassuring that baby is ok, so easy to worry about every little thing but try not to! Thanks

Glasgowgin · 04/06/2018 21:33

That’s brilliant news Smile I also had anterior placenta and agree I felt less movements and later than I expected - think it was about 20 weeks.

Most low placentas ‘move up’ as the lower uterus grows as a P.P said - if not you might need an elective section but it’s v common to see them noted as low at this stage and fine later.

All the best for a healthy rest of your pregnancy.

OhTheTastyNuts · 04/06/2018 21:38

My placenta was in the usual place both times and I didn't feel any movement until after 20 weeks.

Glad all was ok OP. Fingers crossed all continues to go well.

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 04/06/2018 21:39

I weighed less at 39 weeks pregnant when I had baby then when I had my booking in appointment so I wouldn't worry to much about it

Ellapaella · 04/06/2018 21:41

@Louellah good news! And your placenta will most likely move to the right place later on so don't worry too much about it. Movement can be felt anywhere up to 22 weeks or so for a first pregnancy, the anterior placenta will be preventing you feeling things at the moment. Glad you are feeling better, pregnancy is such an anxiety inducing time x

NurseP · 04/06/2018 21:47

Hi, I think about 19-20 weeks if I remember rightly, he is nearly 3 now! I had a lot of episodes of bleeding so was really anxious too.

LittleMissB83 · 04/06/2018 22:08

It may be anecdotal and no connection at all but I also actually lost weight during pregnancy and weighed less just before giving birth than at booking in. At the time I was calm about it as I had been overweight beforehand but my son was born with a fetal growth restriction, which I was subsequently advised can be connected with a failure to gain weight in pregnancy. Just worth being aware of if you are seeking medical advice.
