I have a DD 9mths I just bought her a adorable dress which says whales and girls are best friends. (It’s for 18 months from the charity shop but it’s too cute!)

My mum saved my patchwork velvet coat from when I was 3 as she loved it so much. I know children aren’t dolls but what are your kids favorite outfits? Do you find their taste in clothes changed a lot as they grew up?

That is a fab dress dead Grin
My DS loves little bird but they don't do older sizes for him. Probably going to have to start making my own stuff for him.

LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 10:25

Aww teal I feel your pain those prints sound soo cute! I’ve kept a lot of my favorite ones to make a quilt for her x oh snuggly it’s sweet that it became her special shirt did DD 1 protest or was it that you felt it was more her style?

Theskyatnight I love getting second hand clothes so many of them are so comfortable, I kinda want a pair now!

I’d love to see Dd in bright colours or a dress but she loves shorts and shirts with sharks on.
She looks great to me because it’s what she’s chosen but we won’t be winning any best dressed child awards Grin

LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 10:33

Toomuchtooold DD2 sounds like a fashion trooper I couldn’t imagine wearing a puffy jacket in summer she must have truly loved it! I’m looking forward to her having her own style and seeing what she wants to wear but I also secretly love choosing her clothes too I quite often look like a hot mess while she’s so well coordinated.

I do think she likes clothes with a 3D element like a flower but mostly because she can yank it lol

Combinebananafister what sort of things is he into? The problem I seem to have is that things I like come into fashion and then go away I bought so many 90 style clothing recently before it runs off again!

Deadbutdelicious that dress is so beautiful I’m sure your DD looks amazing in it, last year my mother bought me a rainbow dress (she loves rainbow) I sometimes feel a bit odd wearing it out and about but it’s so comfy! I miss having the boldness of a child and wearing what I like!

Oh gamerwidow! Sharks are very cool though, how olds your DD?

OP posts:
gamerwidow · 03/06/2018 10:56

DD is 8 she’s had strong opinions about her clothes since she was 3 and I just let her wear whatever she chooses.

gamerwidow · 03/06/2018 10:57

She informs me she likes rock and roll clothes not princess clothes Grin

LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 11:07

Oh she sounds very cool! I agree with the princess clothes thing they are generally hard to get around in, love the fact she calls them rock and roll clothes she sounds like a very awesome child!

gamerwidow · 03/06/2018 11:21

She is pretty awesome thanks Grin

LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 11:36

I feel like I should start investing more money in dungarees!

OP posts:
LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 12:18

Do you guys mostly shop online or in person? Do your kids look mostly online or do you guys mostly take in person?

OP posts:
Minesril · 03/06/2018 13:21

Ds lived in dungarees until potty training then had to switch to trousers. When can you put them back in dungarees? Although he might have his own thoughts by then! (Would already live in his paw patrol top if I let him)

LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 13:32

That’s a good question minesril. What sort of bottoms did you but on yours? Did you go for jogging bottoms/shorts?

MIL bought DD (9) this amazing rather 60s geometric patterned short all-in-one with long sleeves, that she gave her with some plain coloured tights that went with it. It looks lovely on her, especially since she cut her hair short last year and everyone loves it... sadly it's been worn to bits now, and moths have nibbled loads of holes in the back, so I'm going to have to chuck it - she's nearly outgrown it too.

I hardly dare buy without her these days, as she has very much her own taste. She likes sparkly things and pictures of cute animals on stuff, but she doesn't like very 'girly' dresses or anything too frilly. She also wants to get a boys' suit, so I'm keeping an eye out on eBay for all those worn-once suits, which I'm sure will look very cool on her.

DS (6) looks extra cute in smart jeans and a checked shirt

SleepingStandingUp · 03/06/2018 16:04

I love my son in a chequed shirt, and he has a little maroon soft jacket I bought second hand when he puked all over himself on the way to hospital once. If I pair then together he looks like Ed Sheeran, even though he is really blonde lol

FineAsWeAre · 03/06/2018 16:22

I love my little boy in a striped t-shirt, denim shirt, chinos and a straw hat. He looks adorable. I have bought the same outfit every summer for about 5 years Grin I also love the traditional Romany type outfits on babies and toddlers, there are a lot of gypsy/traveller families where I work and the outfits the children wear for parties etc are beautiful.

SnugglySnerd · 03/06/2018 18:57

No she didn't protest it just didn't seem right. We saved all dd1's clothes but DD2 mostly wears things other people have passed on to us. Even though they are still second hand and we didn't even choose them ourselves they seem like "her" clothes not her sister's.

The potty training aspect of dungarees hadn't occurred to me. Ds had better wear dungarees as much as possible before we reach that stage!

LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 19:39

There’s some pretty fly children here from the mumsnetters, travelers have such epic clothing I couldn’t imagine wearing half of it personally but I do kinda love the shimmer shimmer.

OP posts:
LadyOdd · 03/06/2018 19:42

I love geometric patterns! Especially the scandi stuff, kids look so cute in Chequed clothing.

I love my boys in denim jeans or chinos and a lovely shirt, however dts2 would live and die in his dinosaur costume and I practically have to pry dts1 out of his football kits.
I also used to love seeing them in dungarees and bought them a pair recently which they refused to wear Sad

liquidrevolution · 03/06/2018 20:17

I like my DD to be all the colours of the rainbow. She mostly wears Littlebird, Boden, Frugo etc with odd gems from Next, MandS, Jlewis, tesco and sainsburys.

My favourite ever outfit on DD was a Littlebird Duck Tshirt. Was gorgeous. She hasnt worn the rainbow dress pictured above yet as I need to sew some elastic in the back (tall skinny daughter!)

If you want to raise your DC in a positive way then check out let clothes be clothes, let toys be toys, let books be books, a mighty girl and pinksticks websites/twitter for great advice.

I just bought DD some great books recently: The Night Pirates (has rough tough girl pirates in), Ada Twist Scientist and the Princess in Black. I can also recommend Zog and Zog and the flying doctors by Julia Donaldson featuring Princess Pearl who is a doctor.

PS littlebird is 20% off at the moment I think on Mothercare website?
