Hoovering up food

Hobbitbobbit · 02/06/2018 20:05

Settle this for me please, who is unreasonable me or DH, I've just witnessed him hoovering up from the kitchen counter loads of breadcrumbs along with some other dry food debris. I think this is disgusting, crumbs on the carpet which can't be swept fair enough, but from the kitchen counter and a fair amount imo is just bloody lazy. He thinks it's perfectly acceptable and makes more sense. He reckons any food item as long as it's not meat is fine for the hoover.

And I know, what a riveting Saturday night but we are actually clearing up to leave holiday.

I'm with your DH, seems like a neat solution! I don't really see the distinction between floor crumbs and worktop crumbs.

Have a lovely holiday!

Gardai · 02/06/2018 20:11

I do this - they are dried up crumbs and in weird places. I know it’s not right but it feels so good. Hoover bag gets changed regularly so I’ve redeemed myself Halo

Hobbitbobbit · 02/06/2018 20:12

Nooooo don't agree with him! I can't show him the thread now.

I bought a DustBuster purely for this purpose. It's much easier and less messy than sweeping the crumbs into your hand using a cloth then throwing them in the bin, but it would feel weird to use the actual hoover. So I suppose I agree with both of you.

imnotadragon · 02/06/2018 20:14

I'm so sorry but I hoover my work tops daily and then anti bac everything I hate crumbs lol

SoddingUnicorns · 02/06/2018 20:16

I use my wee cordless to hoover up the crumbs and debris on the kitchen bunkers and dining table before cleaning it. It’s brilliant!

delilahbucket · 02/06/2018 20:16

I do this all the time, same with the dining table. Then I clean it with antibac. Much quicker.

cubanoak · 02/06/2018 20:17

It makes sense to me. Why do things the more difficult way if the easier method has the same result? Call it efficiency rather than laziness maybe Grin

YetAnotherUser · 02/06/2018 20:21

I've been known to hoover the dining table if the table cloth isn't grotty enough to go in the wash!!

BrazzleDazzleDay · 02/06/2018 20:21

I have on occasion hoovered the work top, like last night after putting sprinkles on a cake, would have taken ages to sweep them all up.

My dh hoovered up fish flakes the toddlers had dropped, i swear i nearly lynched him my nice new hoover stunk.

OpiningGambit · 02/06/2018 20:23

I hoover the kitchen, so I can't see the difference hoovering the worktop. Although I'd want to give it a wipe after, as my hoover isn't very clean!

Freaklikemeee · 02/06/2018 20:24

I don't use my Hoover (Dyson actually) in my kitchen as something damp once got into the tubing from doing so, and every time I vacuumed thereafter, it made the house smell of rotten cheese.
Had to replace the hose.

polkadotpixie · 02/06/2018 20:24

I hovered inside my oven once to get rid of any crumbs before cleaning it 😂

I'm with your DH on this one, sorry!

Hobbitbobbit · 02/06/2018 20:24

Exactly @brazzledazzleday!! He hoovers all sorts and has never ever been the one to change the bag, it's stinks!!

OP posts:
Sparrowlegs248 · 02/06/2018 20:25

No. He's wrong. Either wipe them into your hand and throw away or onto the floor and Hoover up. Dont Hoover the worktop!!

Hobbitbobbit · 02/06/2018 20:25

I'm quite disappointed that the majority are with him and he can now never find out about this.

Hobbitbobbit · 02/06/2018 20:27

I think maybe just dry crumbs is slightly acceptable if the side is wiped afterwards, but he will Hoover up pasta, sweetcorn, tuna, egg amongst other things.

KinkyAfro · 02/06/2018 20:27

I do this, and the hob and the toaster

BusterGonad · 02/06/2018 20:28

I've hoovered up baked beans....I was naughty as it was the work Hoover so I didn't really care!!!!

Doh9899 · 02/06/2018 20:28

What difference does a work surface or a carpet make as long as it's clean afterwards

rotavixsucks · 02/06/2018 20:28

I have a handheld dyson just for hoovering the kitchen, if it's emptied afterwards I cannot see the issue...I got fed up of dh flicking crumbs all over the floor.

moita · 02/06/2018 20:33

I do, made BLW easier but I change the bag regularly.

e1y1 · 02/06/2018 20:35

I do this too (anti vac work top after), is absolutely fine. “Wet” (or even moist) food is absolutely not fine, as of course it will rot and that’s just grim.

LeChatDeNuit · 02/06/2018 20:36

I don’t. Smile When I think of all the places the hoover’s been, I wouldn’t fancy it on the worktop.

e1y1 · 02/06/2018 20:37

Anti BAC, I would assume anti vac would be the opposite - dumping the hoover bag contents on the work top Grin
