I’m camping this weekend, two tents, two children, two dogs.

This is the first time we’ve each brought our dogs and searched for a long time and through lots of reviews until we found this place... spoke to the owner who said he only takes a certain amount of bookings to make sure you’re all a bit seperate and no one bothers anyone else.

Last night it was amazing... it’s almost like you’re camping totally alone. I can see a group of tents in the distance and the top of another through the trees but it does feel very secluded.

When we arrived the owner was at the gate and told us to drive and find an empty space. I assume he says this to everyone..

Today a new family arrive, and park and pitch up right next to us. And I mean Right next to us. Some of their ropes even cross over with my friends tent. Their table and chairs are right in the siteline of ours, I can even hear their drink open!

To make it worse, their kids seem terrified of dogs. Our dogs aren’t on leads and have been running around ‘our camp’ really happy. Now we’ve had to get the crate out.

AIBU? I’m kind of pissed off. I wish I’d brought hungry hippos or some really loud scream inducing game but unfortunately playing cards and magiclip dolls are all I have..!

p.s that tent is amazing! can we all come.we could bring our dogs!

PolkaHots · 02/06/2018 16:28

I would be raging

StaplesCorner · 02/06/2018 16:28

Maybe they don't realise that tents can and should be as far apart as possible? if you don't want to talk to them, talk to the owner ask him to have a word.

kateandme · 02/06/2018 16:29

doesn't sound like dogs wre running free.they were keeping to the ops area and near with the whole bloody field free.its the new campers that came and put themselves onto this plot with the dogs.

Ellendegeneres · 02/06/2018 16:29

I’d be sending the kids off for a bit with your mates when the weirdos get back and have very noisy sex while the kids are away. Might make them realise they’re too close 😂😂 if not, eases some of your tensions !

LartenCrepsley · 02/06/2018 16:29

Privacy and annoyance aside, the tents being close enough to have the guy ropes crossing each other seems very unsafe. A definite fire risk and a trip hazard.

Are you going to speak to them when they come back?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/06/2018 16:31

That is so so weird.

Next time they glare at your dogs say something. I know it’s hard, but it’s weird.

StaplesCorner · 02/06/2018 16:33

I keep looking at the photos and getting confused - so they are in the small-ish tent, which is behind the orange one? Clutching at straws but maybe when they saw the two tents there, yours and your friend's, they thought that you were at the beginning of what was or would become a long line? That this positioning was required of them?

Otherwise they are just provocative arseholes.

MountainHedgehog · 02/06/2018 16:34

Speak to the owner and ask them to move as you can’t walk safely around your tent. Just weird.

bonnyshide · 02/06/2018 16:34

Like the a PP, I am so annoyed by this, and I'm not even there.

Please come back OP and tell us you moved or they did so that I can stop feeling the rage.

Lwoj · 02/06/2018 16:34

My husband broke his elbow tripping over a neighbouring tents guy rope that was too close. Same trip a toddler occupant of another neighbouring tent punched our friends car. Wasn’t a great choice of campsite that year 😂

MaisyPops · 02/06/2018 16:34

If the dogs are off lead and well behaved and it's allowed then who cares what CFs think?

Camping that close is seriously weird. (Though common when I've camped on the continent where quite a few campsites don't have set pitches so people pitch up in really odd places).

Speak to the manager if you need to, otherwise don't change your plans ot cage the dogs. If they have an issue with the dogs then they shouldn't have pitched up so close (especially if their kids are going to swark every time the dog moves)

BorchesterTowers · 02/06/2018 16:34

That is ridiculously close!

I’d go back to the campsite owner and ask them to have a word with the new arrivals.

MadeForThis · 02/06/2018 16:35

Maybe they are used to camping at festivals. 😂

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 02/06/2018 16:36

Yeah, they’re in the small tent behind the orange one. The owner drives around selling wood soon so I’ll ask him.

Thanks, I just bought the tent and I love it! It’s so pretty Grin

Do you have another tent to the left of the orange tent? A camo one? It looks like you have three tents.
In any case they are out of order and rather bizarre. No it's not the done thing to camp so close.

SparklySeashell · 02/06/2018 16:36

Oh OP, I'm sorry to laugh but this thread is hilarious! What total weirdos to camp right there, it looks like a lovely site too!

I agree with others, I think you're inadvertently camped in 'their' spot and they were going to pitch their tent there whatever happened!

converseandjeans · 02/06/2018 16:37

Love your tent btw

QueenUnicorn · 02/06/2018 16:37

Loudly send someone to get medicine for the highly contagious disease you have come down with.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 02/06/2018 16:38

The tiny tent thing is a dog shelter from the sun.. it’s just a pop up thing. We took it down last night.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/06/2018 16:41

I love your tent! Is it a tentipi?

Speak to the campsite owner. As PPs said it's not just etiquette, it's safety.

Allow at least 6m spacing between tents and caravans and ensure they are away from parked cars to reduce the risk of fire spreading

hmcAsWas · 02/06/2018 16:42

Just checking that you don't mind that anyone who knows you in RL will be able to work out what your Mn username is because of identifiable people in your photos?

I would be cross too if someone pitched right next to me where there are acres of free space. I agree with those posters who say don't fuss around calling your dogs back to your tent - don't make any special accommodations for the neighbours. Also - could you have a smelly BBQ to generate some smoke?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 02/06/2018 16:43

I think I’m pretty identifiable in general... I hope next door is a mumsnetter!

ChocEggNoThanks · 02/06/2018 16:44

How bizarre OP! Maybe they just love your tent so much they wanted to get closer 😂

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 02/06/2018 16:44

They’re back...

We’ve pulled our car up close and are playing music Wink
