Off and on on all sorts of different I've seen people do or don't use toilet brushes can we get a consensus here why do you use them or why don't you use it for the record I do use one.
I realise so some people think they're are germ riddled
However I have a effective and through way of cleaning them .
Opinions please . . . . . .

Yep, I’ve always used one. How else are you supposed to get under the rim? I always clean up after myself and often clean up after my husband who forgets to use the brush. I just don’t like to see shit in the toilet, if I’m perfectly honest. The brush hides in a corner and isn’t particularly disgusting - I just have to stop my toddler from getting his mitts on it. It’s a good brush and does a good job. Grin

I agree with some posters those disposable pads I'm not supposed to be flushed plus the cost of the build up even if you only get cheap once.
I don't like bleach the smell of it makes my eyes water very easily

To clean my toilet and brush I use a granular product from the Wilkinson sell for cleaning wine and beer tmaking stuff it's I can't remember it's proper name I will check when I get home from work and use it for cleaning all sorts from dog bowls to plastic Tupperware that is stained inside the fridge anything that's grubby it's like a very strong version of Milton .
It cost about £2 a tub and that will give you gallons of very good quality cleaning stuff without the horrible bleach smell

All fretting on MN reserved specifically for loo brushes for some reason paxillin. Grin

I have to say though I do not own a dish cloth/mop or tea towels. Shock Grin

BoardingSchoolMater · 01/06/2018 22:18

@Paxillin, now there's a thread. I use a dishcloth once, then it gets hurled into a 90 degree wash.

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 01/06/2018 22:18

I hate them.
I use the toilet duck disposable ones for cleaning but have an ikea toiletbrush in each bathroom in case a guest ever needs it. I chuck them out every 1-2 months and replace them.

AnxiousPeg · 01/06/2018 22:21

People are asking how you clean without one... There are many ways! Rubber gloves on, grab a cleaning accessory (could be a scourer or something brush-like). Clean... then throw away the tool, whatever it is. The point is, you don't then store the manky item by your loo!!

Loo brushes that sit there all flecked with shit are vile.

And loo brushes are surely not for scrubbing at fresh shit?! That you would keep an item that you've used for this is disgusting! Squirt bleach, wipe with a wad of tissue. And flush!! Tbh I would do the wipe even without the bleach- I can wash my hands v thoroughly after.

And skids below water line do most certainly vanish after 30 mins with bleach in the bowl.

I admit, I would not be keen on the tissue wad wipe in a grotty public loo... but I also wouldn't be pooing there to start with!

TodaysMostPopular · 01/06/2018 22:22

I've got one but only because it's expected. I don't use it much, I just put bleach down & leave it for a good 24 hours before flushing!

SeagullsStopItNow · 01/06/2018 22:25

I have a lovely Joseph Joseph one, I may even treat myself get one for the downstairs loo too.

DaphneFanshaw · 01/06/2018 22:29

I use a toilet brush, I clean mine in the dishwasher.

AnxiousPeg · 01/06/2018 22:30

Seagulls you've paid over £20 for something you're going to dunk in shit? Grin

chewablemunchkin · 01/06/2018 22:31

No loo brush here. Lovely sparkly white bowl!

The great toilet brush debate
Notso · 01/06/2018 22:32

I used to but DH always left the downstairs one in a right state and worse I caught DS2 using my toothbrush to get shitty toilet roll off the upstairs one.
Now we use hot water and bleach, I also use cistern blocks.

Ceecee18 · 01/06/2018 22:32

I have one of those duck disposable things, but I bin not flush the pads. I used to have a toilet brush but since DD was able to crawl about I worried someone will leave the downstairs loo door open and she will go in and play with the brush.

SeagullsStopItNow · 01/06/2018 22:32

anxious Not exactly, DH was going to Argos one day so I sent him the reservation number and he bought it Grin

It’s so ruddy, bloody hygienic!

Usernameunknown2 · 01/06/2018 22:33

Ive got one. I use flat coke to clean the loo.

AnxiousPeg · 01/06/2018 22:34

Is there meant to be that much water in your toilet chewablemunchkin ?

chewablemunchkin · 01/06/2018 22:34

Had to use a torch cos the big light is broken 😂

chewablemunchkin · 01/06/2018 22:35

That's how much water is always in it. Oh no, do I need to be concerned?

AnxiousPeg · 01/06/2018 22:37

I used to have one of those disposable toilet duck ones with the pads too.

But I couldn't even cope with the idea of the potential for dirty water to drip off the handle into the holder thingy.

Tbf I have issues in this area.

chewablemunchkin · 01/06/2018 22:37

The water is only in the bottom bit, maybe its the edge of the rim making it look full.

AnxiousPeg · 01/06/2018 22:38

chewable

It's probably fine. I have precisely zero expertise in this area. Just looked quite high!

Narya · 01/06/2018 22:38

I use a brush because otherwise surely you have to put your (hopefully gloved) hands right into the bowl to clean the skid marks and limescale off?! I'm by no means a germphobe but no thanks.

We can't use cistern/rim blocks because the cat has been known to try and drink the water in the bowl and people keep leaving the lid up.

AnxiousPeg · 01/06/2018 22:39

Oh yeah! I totally looked at it wrongGrin

RNBrie · 01/06/2018 22:39

@paxillin I don't use dish cloths either! They are so grim, I can't bear that stale musty smell they always seem to have. We have reusable wipes, clean up once and then straight in the washing machine.

We do have a mop head. But I don't see quite the same issue with them as it's used on the floor which isn't exactly covered in poo. It gets replaced every 1-2 months.

I'm actually pretty germ friendly. I don't freak out about vomit or poo, I don't anti-bac anything. I just hate loo brushes and dish cloths!!

Charliecatpaws · 01/06/2018 22:40

OMG seagulls I’ve just Googled the Joseph Joseph loo brush and I’m tempted to buy one. Only problem is that we have 3 loos so is really need 3. My mum was a cleaner extraordinaire she would have loved it, bless her
