Parcel delivered last Friday, no name on it but with my address. I opened it and it was obviously supplies for a shop.

I telephoned the company on the invoice (they’d put the wrong postcode on it) and they said they would send a courier to collect it (company is in Scotland, I’m in England.

Courier has been twice this week, while I’m at work.

Company is getting annoyed with me as saying it costs them money every time the courier attempts to collect. Said they would report it as stolen.

The courier won’t come at a specific time and just gives a timescale of ‘between 7am - 7pm’

Any ideas on what I can do? Other than taking time off work so that I can be home when courier turns up. The only day I don’t work is Sunday and the courier won’t collect it then.

Although I’m tempted to, I can’t leave it outside (we live in a terrace on a busy main road with no porch/front garden) and my neighbours all work too.

I don’t want to get in any trouble but it’s starting to get on my nerves now. I’m getting daily phone calls from the company. The goods are worth nearly £1000 So I understand them needing it back ASAP but they were the ones to make the mistake, yet I’m the one who is expected to put myself out to rectify it.

Thanks

Yes I was expecting parcels! It was my dds birthday so is ordered stuff to be delivered on my day off. This was one of 2 from DPD but didn’t realise it wasn’t mine until i had opened it.

It only took one guy to carry it and he didn’t look as if he was struggling 💪

To get it outside I’d have to unpackage it all, take the box outside, then repackage it.

For all the noseys, it seems to be protective work clothes (hi vis vests, waterproofs, flame proof trousers, lab coats etc, that’s what’s on the invoice)

How did you get it inside in the first place then?

How were you expecting the courier to take it away if it can’t fit through your door?

Thetartofasgard · 23/06/2018 14:06

I don’t mean it doesn’t fit - I mean I can’t lift it

FFS people will troll hunt ANYTHING on here.

OP you’ve been more than reasonable.
Keep everything in writing. Offer them a choice of two timed slots this week and say if it is not collected by 5pm Friday you will assume it released for destruction and get rid of them next weekend, and that you will not enter into any further communication about it.

Dear x

I will be available on Tuesday morning between the hours of x and x. I will expect the courier to collect the parcel during this time. I will not be available at any other time.

I have been more than accomdating in helping to rectify your error and am unwilling to spend any more time dealing with this.

If the parcel is not collected at the above time I will consider it mine to do with as I see fit as per The Consumer Rights Act (I think?). I have taken all reasonable steps to return this and am now legally entitled to keep it. If your communication continues after the above time I will consider it harrassment and will seek legal advice.

I will not enter into further communication about this matter.

Yours..."

If the parcel didn't have a name or an invoice with the correct recipiant on it, but had your full address on it then it would class as unsolicted mail in which case you can do what you like with it from the moment of delivery. If the company requests paymemt they are acting illegally.

If it was incorrectly delivered, then you have to give them a reasonable time to collect it (say 14 days) and must not be inconvinienced or out of pocket.

I think it's the cosumer rights act.

Placemarking

Thetartofasgard · 27/06/2018 13:24

Parcel wasn’t collected.

They said it was arranged for between 8am and 12pm (I had to leave for work at 1) but the card they put through had 4:06pm on it.

I’ve had it.

Last night I put it outside and emailed them to let them know where it was and that I now relinquish all responsibility for it. I’ve given them ample opportunities to collect it which they haven’t done.

Just hoping I’ve done enough that if they do decide to take me to small claims court I’m not held liable for the cost of the goods.

Thanks for all your help.

You've done all you could, op, more than most would have done. Whatever happens now is down to them!
